I cannot believe the amount of misinformed whining and complaining going on in this thread, it's insane.

First of all, this is not a challenge it's an OPT-IN TOURNAMENT, if you don't want to do it and win free cbills, then don't opt-in.

Second of all, DO leave matches after you die, rather than spectate, you do get your rewards for kills, assists, etc before death, don't know why this is being explained incorrectly to so many people all the time on here...Always do this, not just during tourney situations, you will make more cbills all around.

Thirdly, the tourney is just fine as is. I'm only an average mech pilot, and I've already ground out more than 10 mil in cbills, plus the 4.5 mil I've earned so far in prizes, and I'm not done. This was just by playing as I normally play, 400-800 damage matches in a CTF-3D, and attempts at keeping the team alive and together for the win. Seems like an opportunity for a lot of free money to me.

If everyone keeps complaining over everything PGI gives us for free, over every opportunity to make the grind a little easier, they'd have every reason to stop giving us stuff, and then we'd have a pretty boring game to play, compared to now, I think. Just enjoy the free stuff, stop being so lazy, and deal with the events as they are, instead of picking apart every little detail of everything like they're trying to hurt us by throwing a tourney with prizes that any idiot can earn if he has a keyboard, mouse, and this game....

I agree with many who have posted over this, I myself gave up trying to play this out and get the reward (just don't have the time to play 3 days strait to try to get lucky to make the 130 points without playing solowarrior in a heavy/assault [since this event seems to be more about kills, no team factor, and 400+ dmg score], and I prefer lights these days), the points system should have been tilted more towards assists count and team effort (spots, counter ecm) as a solo drop than kill count, it's not to late, swap the assist with kill counts and this reward event piggyback on a tourny can be salvaged, and maybe meds and lights will bother playing again.

As it is now, the matches are just terrible and many just don't feel like trying to even compete in the tourny due to the unbalanced play that has been a result due to the reward piggyback event.

(crosses fingers for a scoring method alteration before event/tourny is over to aim more towards assist than kills for reward side, can keep kills for tourny part)

I find it's much easier to just BARELY brush 120 points, but you end up missing that last bit because you did a little less damage, missed one guy to get that last assist, or you couldn't get a kill down.

By the way, I will point out, that the lance challenges where assists were worth more than kills, everyone complained that kills should be more, thus proving that the Devs cannot win with most of the people who are vocal on the forums, no matter how they score an event....Now they listen to what was said last time, and everyone still complains. Great motivation for more events.

what would that change? everyone would try to avaid doing the kill, it will be as much an issue as before just the other way around.

For these solo challenges can't you prgram the matchmaker to NOT place players from the same unit on the same team? That would end the sync drops or at least reduce them. Now that players can be part of a unit at least that can be factored into the matchmaker's calculations I would think.

They could but that means it would take even longer for it to find matches. Did you report the group who was taking advantage of the MM?

Neg. You get the 500k C-bills when you get the 130 points and WIN. You do NOT get the money when you score 130+ points and lose.

Edit: Taken from the tournament page:
Players who opt in can earn 500,000 C-bills per victory when they score above 130 point.

Below that it shows VALID WINS: X

Well, I can't contest that, solution I guess would then be split the difference 15/15 even, be it kill or assist.

Either way, logically this event/tourny based on its scoring, is a promotion to not touch a light or medium, which is rather obvious with matchmakers class listing percentage. Not sure why they went with this formula with user influence or not, it pretty obviously favors getting kills and doing high dmg scores at any cost, which boots off the little guys from reasonably scoring, very bad for a valid tourny even if it is to create statistics for balance analysis (need those lights and mediums to actually play). ;p

Not only are the matches terrible (which is to say, it's basically a balls out charge to brawl in the middle of the map or this constant 'rotation' for the sake of it) it's actually that the game has taken its natural course and this is the result. Small maps, bad map design (The Mining Collective is just a brawl around the central features of that map), ranged weapons steadily reduced in effectiveness (e.g. PPC speed), fast but still sturdy 'mechs (Timber Wolf), higher DPS weapons and payloads (Clan stuff). This is basically BrawlWarrior on-line right now. This is an arena game with 'mechs. I could be playing Quake. MWO has always been borderline in being more than just an FPS and retaining that MechWarrior "feel" but now It's lost it altogether. This is just some FPS that happens to have 'mechs in it.

totally ****** up MWO. see maybe next week.

PGI : install brains! Bring match score and other stuff like base/resource point capping, component destruction and so on into your f.ucking score formular and not kills. When... when do you ..... are learning from former mistakes?! Never, i think.

this is the last time i op-in in such a ****, leaving MWO for further Tournament b.ullshit-weekends.

edit: i have 4...FOUR god f.ucking wins wich counts for those 500k cbill ****.. FOUR, the whole weekend. ALWAYS getting stomped. Wich team ever has the more DWF's or clan mechs in generall, wins. PLUS these one-sided ECM and LRM matches.... 5 ECM and lots of LRM mechs on one side, other side has nothing of them.. lol.

Are you a White Knight?

Seriously you are just tooting your horn. It doesn't matter if a player opted in or not, everybody is stuck with these crap games while at the very least a good chunk of every team has players charging in for kills and not playing smart. If you like these crap games then you most likely also like arm wrestling kids still in elementary school. PGI tried to turn this into a solo game where it is not a solo game.

To the person who asked if I reported the sync dropping players, no I didn't. I didn't even think that was something PGI would care about. Besides they are still backlogged on support so if anything bringing it here to this topic seemed the best way to shed some light on it.

but if so people would suicide lights by tagging everything, also not one of the good solutions, simply 9 assits and done is it, let the team work on the wins. not really a good solution either.

I'm no white knight, I have my complaints about some things that PGI does, this tourney however is not one of them, and I think the people who are having issues with it are just overdoing it.

My point was that I am only an average player, nowhere near competitive, and am finding this tourney very easy to make mass cbills off of, so there's no reason for anyone who isn't completely terrible at the game to complain, unless of course they just enjoy complaining, as I'm beginning to understand is mostly the case.

Also, sync-dropping is not getting reported because there's nothing wrong with it....the devs can't control who drops with who in solo, the chances of forcing the MM are so small that it's a crapshoot, and a ton of solo players who happen to be RL friends, but not in a Unit/Clan could solo sync just as well as anyone, and they'd have no way to detect it...it's fair play, the people playing against it just refuse to see it because they lose to it. Oh well. Been going solo the whole tourney anyway, and having no issues...

I'm not one of those ggclose, learn to play, QQ people, but sometimes you really do just need to say: "Learn to play", and this is one of those weekends...if someone fairly new to the game, with crap FPS and low ping can do well, then what are the rest of you having issues with? Is your mouse plugged in?

Yes, i've had some real bad matches this weekend, gotten rolled 12-0 on a few...but this happens once in a while anyway, and you deal with it, move on. I do get some of where people are coming from, it's not like I think everyone's making it up, but I do think they're making way too big a stink over it..learn, and adapt, just like dealing with LRMs, clan tech, anything else, there's ways to get better and accomplish what you want in this game if you just try.

Well if you have an idea then for a solution I wont discount it and will hear it out with hopes PGI takes note of it, but the point I am making is, this tourny is broken, logically it will not provide any proper statistic to use for their balance testing on quirk changes. No one plays normally like they are during this and something needs to be different to correct that so they go back to playing as they do in a normal situation.

As it is now, I sure hope they don't use the numbers provided by this tourny/event to decide what quirks to do on the quirk pass. I hope they make some adjustment to the formula so there is still incentive to participate in the tourny, but not ruin it like the current formula does. (Maybe even some new statistic value to merit your worth in the match outside of kills/assists but based on a different performance metric that scales between lights to assault based on weight class role.)

They offered participation (CBill) rewards for everyone, and required wins, so you have less "Kills over everything!" players, since that style of play often can cause a team loss.

This challenge is surprisingly hard. Too many one sided match ups. Either you are chasing to scratch the enemy with your lasers to get atleast the assist or you suddenly notice you lost 6 teammates in under a minute and wonder wth happened.

Have to get back to some drops today (eventually)... but had a few good runs yesterday, stuck mostly with my Nova-B... finished the day sitting in 164th place for Clan Mediums... no where near that today tho'... LOL...

Either way, only thing I could suggest, and it's just my opinion... instead of this:
Match points special formula:
(Kills × 20) + (Kill Assist × 10) + ((Damage Done - Team Damage) ÷ 15)

reverse it to:

(Kills × 10) + (Kill Assist × 20) + ((Damage Done - Team Damage) ÷ 15)

Giving more weight to Assists over Kills might(?) promote a bit more teamwork... tho' having played most of the day on Saturday, except for one battle, they where all close games... 12-9, 12-11, etc... teams really worked well together (might have just gotten lucky in my drops, who knows...)

Still... weighing Assists over Kills might help out a bit... and give more a shot at the bonus C-Bills...

This will result in players avoiding kills, which has some potentially hilarious results (Wow, no deaths 12 minutes in. Anyone have weapons left?)

Dropping a kill down to 15 might help a bit, but overall I don't think the system is that bad other than not rewarding scouting much (Maybe 1 point per tag/narc/spot assist, and leave the rest. Inflates scores a bit, but rewards scouts without being OP or creating Lurmers paradise)>

So if there were more incentive to take light and mediums it would even out the mm pool and matches could be more balanced? I am doing my part I have been part of the 6-12% dropping lights all weekend. Carrying ecm and shielding friendly assaults my scores are crap but I gave up on the challenge I am just hoping to have a little fun and maybe help someone else along The way at this point.

Yes, this is a good thing. It's too bad you are not rewarded accordingly. That right there is a huge reason why things aren't balanced. Those who can do well in lights and mediums in the current reward system play them, while those who can't or just like big stompy robots won't no matter how you incentivize them.

I've only ever seen 2 folks from the same unit, and often it's on opposite sides.

I have randomly dropped with folks from my unit in this, it was rather strange. None were on TS, and some didn't even acknowledge me in chat.

you can't make everyone happy, not matter how you do it. some guys will always rant. and so you make one of the decisions knowing someone will rant. and they alter it from time to time so that the people who rant alter as well.

The event will definately show which mechs are the big scorers and may give a good information which chassis need some adjustments. Sure no one playes normally, they all tryhard now. But CW will be similar. And tryharding leaves no place for inferior chassis.
