Here is a build that I came up with in a matter of less then 20 minutes. I am sure that I could find better deals if I looked around, this was just browsing Newegg for a few minutes. Yes this build is complete, and after rebates runs around a $100 over the target. However, with over a $100 back in rebates, and two free games and other gifts that come with the purchase for free, IMO, it is a contender and would be a very decent gaming rig for the money. Not the fastest by any means, but it will perform well for this game, and any other out there. This is also assuming that one doesn't have every part needed to complete a new build, - a DVD drive. So add another $20 bucks to the price.

Please, Intel only guys, flame away, one must keep up the Intel only sales pitch.

The 8350 is bad and you should feel bad. i5-4460 + basic motherboard is cheaper and will perform better in MWO.

Also, the 290 is much better value compared to the 290X.

Like I said.... barley took 20 minutes to price out the build. If I was looking and seriously going to build another rig I would spend a lot more time finding better deals for my money spent. I would say the FX-8150 is not a good choice, but to say the fx-8350 is a bad processor is just laughable. As for deals that can be had on hardware, depending on ones location to Micro center, people selling hardware on Craigslist, newegg, Tiger direct, deals can be had on all hardware.

I picked up my xfx 7970 3b for only $200 from a private seller that wasn't happy with his results for crossfire, so he dumped one of them. The 7970 made a huge difference in my fps vs. the xfx 6870 2 gb. 20-40 frames per second easy. At the end of the day, I don't feel bad about my purchase of the FX-8350, nor to I feel bad about recommending it to others. Does it handle single threaded apps as well as some of Intel's offerings, NO it does not. Regardless if that it doesn't, does not change the fact that it is a decent processor. I picked it and a Asrock 990 motherboard up at Micro center on sale combo deal for $169 dollars, that means I got a 990 motherboard for free. I got the very same deal back a few months prior at Micro center on my FX-6100 and a Quality 990 gigabyte mother board for almost nothing with the processor purchase. The price just couldn't be beat for what I got and continue to get from it even while playing this beast of a very poorly optimized game engine for ALL CPU's, Intel and Amd.

I think this is a fair real world review on the issue at hand. I have never claimed that my rig is the bomb...and just the fastest out there. Seems like a few have made the claim that I have. Simply not true.

What I have in fact claimed is that one of the statements made regarding this topic, "ALL Amd systems need to be OC and have to have the Config. files tweaked to be able to play MWO with decent results or forget it." is completely FALSE, and laughable, nothing more then a sales pitch for Intel by gamers that need that extra bump, regardless if it really makes a real world difference on how well a game plays on a given rig. I have had very little issues with my rig playing this game, I have other lesser processors from Amd, and Intel, no real issue's with them effecting a decent gaming experience on them either. Are they starting to get a bit long in the tooth....sure they are, but my current main gaming rig has no problems keeping up with this game. That is the point.

You really kinda skimped on that Motherboard, No? I like motherboards that give more options and while that one might be fine for many builders, I would not skimp on something as important as a motherboard unless I had to.

Also I would not go with that Air cooler for the Intel build, reviewers stated that the inserts for Intel lock downs are cheap and easy to break with that model. I believe it will work fine for Amd build, but not Intel.

I should mention I'm going for a red/black theme, hence the red led Bitfenix fan and MSI components. A little superficial I know but I'm an artist/designer, it has to look good! At least where possible.

I was debating a 750ti but thought the performance increase on a GTX 660 was worth the extra bucks. Anyone here use a 750ti? How does it handle MWO?

There is no shitstorm, the intel will perform better than the AMD chip in MWO.

We all know this.

At least we should all know this by now.....

R9 270 is on Par or just a Tad Bit better than the GTX 660 and is both cheaper and fits the Red/Black Theme better considering AMD/ATI is Red and Nvidia is Green
The 2 Fans are Black with Red LEDs to Fit the Red/Black theme and have a Higher CFM in other words it moves more air to help keep the computer cool, can be put on the CPU Cooler in a Push/Pull to help cool the CPU more plus the Fan that came with my 212 Plus had Blue LEDs, not sure about the 212 EVO but if it's blue like my Plus then it wouldn't fit the Red/Black Theme.

as for HDD, Apparently WD got a Lower Fail rate than Seagate, in other words a WD HDD would last longer than a Seagate.

Yo, Dog: I heard you like voltage in your RAM … So much so, I stepped up the PSUs' game. There's all of 2.7A left on the +12V rail for moar fans and/ or HDDs.

The case is here for it's well-knows cooling ability, one it's replacement reportedly doesn't share, as the Three Hundred Two still doesn't have intake fans from the factory, despite how sideways drive cages impede air flow, even when empty.

Annnnd whatever it was that made that case $36 has ended while I was picking a PSU. <_<

So it's the same RAM, but treading upon a voltage redline, like when placed in an Intel box; Ergo, the PSU can slack off. There are ~8A left on the +12V rail.

Do remember any AMD build requires overclocking and a good-sized set of tweaks to settings and the user.cfg. You've Been Warned. Posted Image

Sorry.....but you are mistaken Goose. My Amd Rig requires none of the so called tweaks you keep claiming.

Sure thing Goose..... here ya go. Here is my response to the other thread, just copy and pasted. I will start keeping track of my numbers by hitting the F11 key to bench them. If you are really gonna stick by that false claim about All Amd systems, you should put up a paid by Intel sig at the bottom of every post. ;)

All of my game play seems smooth, other then the normal BS that we all deal with regarding issues with the engine/game.

Not that it means much, but 7/10 pug matches I have taken top match score tonight... hitting as high as 133 in my BJ-X1 8 small pulse lasers. How is my game play gimped by my Amd system? Just wondering again?

I turned down my FX-8350 to 4530 mhz and my 7970 3gb is not over clocked during these last four games.

What started my comments on this thread and the other one is Goose's disclaimer and warning he puts on ALL Amd systems in regards to playing MWO. What he is claiming is false, and should not be accepted by this community as the "norm" for what to expect when running this game on all Amd systems. I have not had to alter or mod my config files, and right now I am running with a very mild OC to my FX-8350 and stock on my 7970 3gb card.

Thanks Lord Letto, I'll consider that mobo and HDD. I think I'm stuck on Nvidia products right or wrong, just can't get into Radeon's, though I'm sure they're good. Personal preference, same thing with intel cpu's. The MSI 660 is red and black and matches the MSI motherboard. I already have the Shinobi case and it comes with two 120 fans. Room for 7 altogether including two 140s up top so plenty of options there.

That HDD is more expensive but the mobo is cheaper so it balances out. I'll do some research. Thanks again guys!

I'm also trying to figure out if I should go with an SSD initially. Both ultimately but do you need to start with an SSD to load your OS onto? Can you start with an HDD and move Windows over to an SSD after? Sorry for all the newb questions.I have much to learn.

Also, is a WD Black worth the extra cost over a Blue and does anyone have experience with Seagates SSHD hybrid? Seems like an interesting compromise for a similar price to other HDDs.

I understand that you have your personal preference's completely. It sounds like you are well on your way to your new gaming rig.

Yes you can install Windows on a standard HD and move it over/clone it over later with the software Samsung provides for you. I would rather do a clean install fresh on a SSD. Is the SSD needed right out the gate, well that is a matter of preference also, but I waited for 3 years for SSD prices to come down, and tax time last year I went ahead and bought my first one, the 512 gb Samsung evo. All I can say is I wished I wouldn't have held off for so long on the upgrade.

I used to run either WD enterprise drives in raid, or the Black series with 7200 rpm, and I would swear by them for a hard drive. But they do not compare to the Samsung SSD's. Same thing with Seagates hybrid models, I have one running on one of my media/gaming rigs, FX-6300, 8 gbs of ram, 6870 2gb and a 512 gb seagate hybrid drive. It is a little quicker then a regular drive, but it really just doesn't cut it vs. a SSD. HUGE difference! I would go with the SSD if you can afford it, you won't be sorry starting with installing the OS, cuts time off everything that has to access your drive.

Btw, IMO Lord Letto is correct regarding Seagates..... It really is hit and miss with them. I used to run seagates in my builds, but several of there models had serious fail rates. I believe the one that started my concerns and lead me to stop using them was the 1.5 tb models back about 5 years ago, and the one model they came out with right after that the 7200.12's I think? I haven't had a problem with the hybrid drive I bought, got it around 2 years ago, it is the laptop version (2.5) though. After that little deal with seagate I ran into, 4 hard drives of my own that failed in two rigs, and I had around 13 hard drives fail within 6 months for clients computers I built, I stopped using seagates all together.

I did take a risk here back at tax time though and bought 4 of the new 4tb seagate hard drives for backups. So far I haven't noticed any bad sectors or issues, but I am keeping a eye on them with HDtune just to make sure. I would go WD and either black or enterprise class 7200rpm speed if you can't afford the Samsung SSD.

Three concerns with this build being gimped.... 1st off, no need for team extreme (who are these guys, never heard of them) 2666 ram... In fact, I think the Asus motherboard doesn't even support more then 1866 and 2133(OC)... There are better deals on 1866 and the timings and cas are better. Such as this.... G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory ($68.00 @ Newegg)

Second concern is there is no need to go with the more expensive FX- 8370E, better deals can be had on the FX-8350 for sure. In fact you could just skip the Asus motherboard completely and combo up the FX-8350 with this.... save $30 dollars off what you listed and have a much better motherboard IMO. + there is a 10 dollar mail in rebate right now on the combo.

1x GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 AM3+ AMD 990FX + SB950 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard
$124.99

1x AMD FX-8350 Black Edition Vishera 8-Core 4.0GHz (4.2GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ 125W Desktop Processor FD8350FRHKBOX
$169.99
Combined Total: $294.98 Combo Discounts: - $24.00 Combo Price: $270.98

Total Rebates $10.00

Third and most noticeable gimp you could give this system is a standard 7200 rpm drive and not pick up a SSD for the main OS/gaming drive. With the money you could save on the ram (10.00 bucks, and the 50 bucks from dropping the 8370E, you would still be under the mark of a grand but with a much nicer system and one that has a Samsung SSD. Just a thought ;)

You see those minimum FPS values down in the 20's and 30's?

Thats exactly what people are talking about. And exactly why goose puts that disclaimer there, those FPS spikes that go so low are prevalent on AMD chips because they can't provide the per core performance that MWO is coded to use.
