HOORAY WE CAN FINALLY EJECT FROM OUR MECHS!!!

We are implementing the ability to eject from your BattleMech for Drop Ship mode. This will prevent running around on the field as a pogo stick if you don't want to be in that situation. The implementation will be as follows:

An assignable key [O by default] will trigger the eject sequence.
The player must HOLD this key down for [10] seconds in order to eject. The amount of time will be determined based on "denying the enemy a kill" mentality which would be rather poor to have happen all the time.
Upon ejecting, a large pulse of damage is sent to the 'Mech's head component and the 'Mech is destroyed.
The ejecting player is sent to the ***standard "death" screen*** and eventually to the drop ship selection screen.
Attacking players will still get assist and most damage kill stats, but the final blow stat will not be given.

Standard death screen? Q_Q but... but... but I wanna fly...

I care not if i can't see anything and whatnot. just need that epic feeling of immersion as one blows the lid off the mech and soars skywards. Will we be able to see an enemy mech pilots smoke trail leaving the head of an ejected mech?

Anything will do :)

It's very situational and subjective. I have gotten kills before being nothing but a stick atlas. Seriously, on Canyon, the last light went to fly over me by running off the cliff over me (he did not have JJ) and his legs grazed my head and that resulted in a kills as both legs were destroyed. Friggin hilarious, I was dead by rights and something was watching out for me. :P

Nothing quite like "Headbutt mode, engaged" I think I would still go about sticking my nuts in the fire as I regularly do. I just quite like to become a glorious firework when tis all over.

It'll be just for Community Warfare matches, I believe, and it is pretty much required for a few good reasons. Details of how it should be done is all that's really worth discussing.

I am glad PGI listened to us on that subject.

Yup, needed, otherwise folks could play around with waiting to kill you till after a drop time, or just let you be useless.

You seem to be getting lost in the practicalities gentlemen.

Good feature and needed for reasons and such yes of course.

It's the way it happens, can't be all work and no play, especially when it comes to soaring skywards on a jet powered recliner ;)

I have more of a problem with Paul not knowing what the O key already does...

But yeah, eject sounds more like a Self Destruct to me.

Please do a "self destruct" instead of just a simple eject.

A pogo stick mech still has a nuke reactor. Yeah I know we all want to see a nuke explosion, but that won't happen (locustmeddon literally). Just make the self destruct do like 10 damage to give incentive for people to kill you.

The most important reason is the following :
hearing Betty say
"self destruct initiated"

Awesome. One can dream right?

Fingers crossed that they animate the Pilot reaching between their legs to pull the handle!!
Also, I excuse your ALLCAPS, because I realize how exciting this news is!

im all for ejecting and a (minor damage) self-destruct in all game modes.

that way, "welp, im stuck" or the infamous shut-down in a corner and DC. Can be solved with a punch-out, make "quit match" force a punch-out. so if someone wants to shut-down and corner-hide to preserve their KDR, they have to wait there too....

They already have a mechanic to determine if you're under a roof, I think. It's why you can't launch a UAV when you're in a tunnel. So the same mechanic would be used to determine if it's safe to eject upwards. If it's not, then.... self destruct, I guess.

It should give us something like that MW5 video and then fade into the dropship select screen...

Greetings all,

In order for PGI to have an actual 'presentation' to the Pilot of physically ejecting or leaving the Mech they need a few items in place first.

- the simple solution,
~ 'sounds of the event happening'
~ 'darken the view for a second'
~ 'enable advanced spectator mode for 2 seconds' (what we saw in the Tournaments for the commentators)
~ 'quick elevation change, up' (this keeps everything in the current game relevant)
~ 'disable the spectator mode'
~ 'fade to black and enable/fade in the dropship mode selection screen.'

- The more difficult versions requires new animations and art work, but all the engineers and designers are tied up with CW Ph2 now. So much more difficult to complete in the required timeframe.
(this method would need to be a generic eject animation with nothing linked to the environment your currently in. Again, more difficult as there would need to be no view of the cockpit your in or the outside location. Or PGI would need to model the animation to 'call' or reference every Mech cockpit during this effect, and the specific map and direction facing when it happens.)

Just some ideas,
9erRed

Top notch thoughts folks.

Is very interesting to note Pauls update about the Dropships and the animations being worked on, Mayhaps some potential there for re-use of certain aspects to simulate a badass eject?

This MUST be included in all modes ASAP.

Particularly skirmish. I'd maybe willingly play that mode on rare occasions then.
