Right now, the game is not fun to play, and with the sheer number of 12 man premades now online maybe it is time to go back to the old matchmaking system. Where 12 man premades only go up against other 12 man premades. Extend it to 8 man premades and 4 man premades as well. I know I am not the only one sick of this, as this is a constant complaint in team chat.
So, fellow mechwarriors - what sort of solutions would you suggest to the dev team about fixing the match making?

That's a false premise, that is not the case, UNLESS you're playing on certain days, such as when 12 mans are training, or when there's an event on like today's, which does not require solo dropping, so naturally people play in big groups to win it as quickly as possible.
The solution to your issue, if you don't want to commit to a corp, is to hang out in public 12 man group servers like NGNG which are welcoming to casual players to form groups.
The fact of the matter is, you often drop against other made up groups far more than you do against 12 mans. I know this because I play both small and large groups.
When I'm in a small group, and I keep matching up against a Lords training session, I drop back into playing solo until I get more players on, or I join a public TS server. It works fine.

I rarely see full 12s when I drop with my unit.

There's barely any these days.

But there are some things you can do. Go to NGNG etc and do a random group of 2-6 people that works well and you meet a lot o new people. Server: voip01.n1585.hypernia.net:9992 Password: mechwarrior
Also maybe PGI will add the option of choosing a closer ELO between teams for a longer wait time.

Have seen one in many months in the pug queue.
Or are you having some flashbacks?
Seriously how do these threads keep popping up?

I think the mentality of facing a 12-man is a fear of some people... and generally irrational because you need to gain more experience to overcome such adversity.
Really, if you work together, and have a general plan of attack instead of running off on your own and ready to be killed, you'd have at least half a chance of/at winning.

Its the new boogieman. Unless its a top team you really do have a chance. If not, Lords, Steel Jags, or other top teams(spacing) you can still win.

This "irrational fear" is generally due to the fact that a 2 man group goes up against it. Don't get me wrong, I have faced my share of 12 mans as a 2 man and won quite a few. But it heavily depends on your team as a small group unlike being in an 8~ man where you can effectively control the flow of the battle with your group.

You could just do what everyone else does; make friends ado them to your list and grow your group.
Most 12 man's are mixed of several units
The group que needs to stay as it is; or we end up with the ****** group sizes again.

This, group is fun again sry if some matces are bad . Its the same for us even if we are a 12 man against top clans if we get 1-2 kills its lucky.

Often, if you are a small group you are more likely to be paired with lone wolves that run in and try to Rambo. You lose 2-3 players at the start against any 8+ premade and you are basically done. It's rare to come back against these groups no matter if you have 2-3 players that use terrain, ecm, focus fire, whatever. You just get steamrolled. This is what the complaint is really about.
Now the common suggestion is go join a group or something. It's a fair answer, but now that requires working professionals who throw good money into this game to spend their very limited time searching for these group when all they want is to group with their friend(s) for an hour or so an blow stuff up. So basically, small groups are punished. You must find a big group to enjoy the game or just go solo all the time to get reasonable matches instead of a 12-0 (heavily lopsided) loss.
The point is, if people want to have organized and serious matches then they should have a separate que. Or an opt in/out option. It's not fun getting constantly matched up against any large premade if you are a group of two, just so the premade can practice on you. There is no irrational fear. This is a game and should be fun. The current grouping is not fun, unless you're part of a large group.

If you stop resigning yourself to defeat before the fight even begins, you might find that a lot of 12-man teams are very beatable.
Edit: And also, keep in mind that 12 man team's Elo is inflated because they're in a large group. Assuming a relatively equal Elo for each team, that mean's your team of smaller groups is actually comprised of individual players who have a higher average Elo than the other team's players - it's basically a more skilled team vs a more coordinated team.
