Ok so like the title says why the hate for this mech? This thing is tons of fun and a defiantly a great Carrion mech.

Now I've just returned to the game after quitting in disgust during ""beta". I missed that this was an April fools joke. I missed the hate in the forums. When I came back I switched from my longtime faction of Davion which I've been playing since I started playing TT in the 80's to FRR. So of course being very very very drunk and now deciding I wanted to be a space viking Huginn seemed like a must have.
This things a blast. I consistently get good scores and high damage and I SUCK at Mwo. I hunt dire wolves in the thing and win as often as I get splattered. It's nimble, short and crit seeks like a ninja on meth.

Anyone else actually like this mech?

For 35 tons, you get the choice between the Ember and the Huginn.

Is it really a contest?

I don't see why it wouldn't be. I don't know much about the Ember other than the ability to mount lasers it seems more like flavor points to who is driving the thing.

Because it has missile and ballistic slots only. Ballistics are too heavy to be effective on lights and missiles are either great at really short range or 50/50 at long range. I don't think being a carrion bird is a good role in this game. Especially when you could be effective at killing stuff while it still has armor and then use that same damage against internals which are much easier to destroy anyways.

Pretty much what Rouken says... 4 ballistics on lights screams machineguns because you don't really have the tonnage to bring real guns and have an engine that'll give you good survival odds. Once you go past that, there's 2 missile hardpoints... so it's either a weaksauce LRM boat (and if you want light LRM boat, go Clan) or an SRM boat, at which points the best you can fit is 2x SRM6 with Artemis.

Light mechs are best served with at least some energy weapons. Huginn has none.

Thus, it's shunned by almost everyone. It just doesn't hold up.

This.

Unless you have a love affair with a Raven with machine guns and missiles and a slightly higher engine cap, the 4X gives you ballistic slot, missiles, two energy and jump jets minus the hero bonus. Its different just for the sake of being different and suffers for it.

I have a 960+ with multiple kills Locust 3M match screenshot. That doesn't make the Locust a good mech. Some people can make it work, most people can't. Same with the Huginn. Just because you can make it work doesn't make it a good mech.

ey Locust is a good mech dude , the guy pulls 600 damage and 1V blows components off. You can't put a mech on a "good" state or that Tier bullshit people is been talking latetly....we all know that it comes to the player on figure out how to use them. I've seen the so called "Suckoner" doing some serius damage on matches when people talks **** on it.

And yeah , EVERYONE can make ANY mech work because they're all good for what they been designed for.

I forgot about that mech...

At least it can boat missiles better. It was supposed to have 6 M slots...but apparently OP. Heroes tend to suffer from that, with the exception of a half dozen. The Banshee was supposed to get JJs, wasn't it?

Oxide doesn't even have JJs, which both the Huginn and Ember do.

Always a good time to run a Jenner-D (with Streaks), and go to town on anything smaller. Good times.

I've been wondering about the whole Tier thing. Really i can see how some people might dislike designs or find them a bit harder to figure out how to use...but seriously i'd rather people try different machines that ending up with 12 V 12 dire wolf matches. I swear for a freaking mech that is supposed to rareish you can't move without tripping over 5 of them

You are thinking of the Banshee hero. For the record, they are MIA these days.

Yes, La Malinche or something along those lines. It's pretty much a S with a few less E hardpoints, but a larger engine cap, isn't it?

And i'm not being confrontational...but doesn't the fact that people can make it work make it a not bad mech? I mean if people could only make one or two mechs work what would be the point of all the other chasis?
I'm not saying your arguments invalid...just curious. I know people that can't certain designs. The mech is bad...for them. Not horrible and not worth buying for other people.

It had the potential to be an HGN-732 @ 95 tons (had it gotten JJs). Now, it's probably a more questionable Boar's Head. :P

LeBron James can take a basketball made out of paper mache and beat most people at a game of horse. That doesn't make a paper mache basketball a viable alternative to a normal ball.
