I have a pretty big gripe with MWO as of late, and maybe its "working as intended" but I wanted to see where the forums lay with this one.

A lot of the time when I'm playing, I am taking damage. Now a lot of the time, when I'm being shot I only notice because my paper doll starts to light up. Other times I'll actually see someone shooting me and I'll barely hear a thing.

Is there any particular reason why I can barely hear my 80 ton mech being partially melted by a barrage of lasers? There is a sound effect but its much too quiet, and I assure you I'm playing at a decent volume

There has to be someone else who has this same issue, its been like this for so long and has been overshadowed by all of the bigger issues.

Perhaps PGI can implement more sound effects to laser hits. In the novel, the armor makes distinct popping noise when heated up by lasers.

I've noticed, at times when there's a lot of action, some sound effects just don't trigger when they're supposed to (perhaps because there are already too many sounds that have to be played?) I find it's the most noticeable with the Gauss charge-up sound, Warhorns, and received Laser Damage sound effects. Perhaps this issue has something to do with the OP.

Practice more, and make sure you lock your target so you can see the red box. Getting blinded/shaken doesn't affect your aim, only your eyes.

I only experience this on hpg manifold, but that is working as intended.

I haven't noticed what the OP is describing. In fact, I had the opposite experience and has to turn the SFX down in order to be able to hear my lance-mates on TS once the shooting started :S

I have the problem from time to time, but I think it's related to HSR, most of the people on when I'm playing have around 100 higher ping than I do, so I hear the shots, immediately glance down, see I'm fine, 2 seconds later I look down after I have cover and see my paper doll updating damage.

This is pretty interesting indeed.
Laser is a kind of light and does not have a sound itself.
A pilot should hear the noise of its own mech's armor that is vaporizing when hit by lasers.

I get this too. I infuriates me when I look down and say, "Oh, hey...apparently my armor is red in the shoudler..." after no cockpit rock, no audio queue, etc. Pretty sure it's a bug and it's highly disruptive imo.

Don't think I encounter this problem.

However when taking multiple type of damage(energy, ballistic. missile), the sound would overlap and hard to tell apart.
Laser damage makes a sizzling sound on contact, even if hit object near you.
Missile make the loudest noise though, with it's clanking. Ballistic hit seems to be the softest among the 3.

The impact is basically silent. It's the flash vaporizing of armor that makes a hell of a lot of racket. Ever drop an ice cube into a warm liquid and hear the ice cube crack? Now imagine that ice cube is metal, and just got enough heat pumped into it to instantaneously turn it into a gas. That's gonna make a noise.

I encourage everyone to play a couple of games with this in mind and notice how frequently it happens
