I play Clans, largely for this very reason of Spheroid beam lameness. S'far as I'm concerned, your lasers all need, like, a universal -1 heat and the pulsebeams should be based on a 0.4s burn time rather than a 0.6s. To start If you're going to have lasers with anemic damage and range, then by Gum you'd best be able to fire them for weeks on end without overheating, and they'd best be done firing in a blazing hurry.

I certainly wouldn't complain about that. :)

Grasshopper:
GHR-5J: 2 AMS, 6E, 1M, 6 JJs, 365 engine cap
GHR-5H: 1 AMS, 7E, 1M, 4 JJs, 340 engine cap
GHR-5N: 1 AMS, 8E, 4 JJs, 340 engine cap

In terms of hardpoints, I think the 5N is the clear winner because having an ML in your head is infinitely better than using an unpaired small missile launcher. The 5J will be the faster skirmisher/brawler of the bunch.

5 J has 2x energy slots in the CT + missile head. It will zombie like no other Heavy.

Kinda disappointed in the Grasshopper. I was getting the impression that it mixed missiles and lasers... but one launcher with one crit space isn't really so hot.

and a single SRM4 is better?....i'd rather have the anti-light tracking on it, even if it is just throwing rocks, they're well aimed rocks.

Another option is to have a single LRM5 on the head slot for getting easier assists, or scouting the enemy by triggering their AMS. It can also act as a suppression device to force the enemy to duck down if they did not expect it.

Unfortunately NARC is 2 slots so not gonna happen. :(

Still, I really don't get the hate single SRM4 receives. There are Light mechs that run with single SRM4 + energy build and people don't ***** about them, but when it is the GHR and suddenly people talk ****?

Aside from the grasshopper, these mechs all seem... Uh... bad.

Probably get them anyway, but the Zeus is so fat it will probably inherit the Awesome's problems. Meanwhile the Panther is a slow light that has terrible hardpoints, and the Enforcer has to compete with the Shadow Hawk.

Pulse lasers are actually pretty good IMO.

They don't have enough of a benefit. They are hotter, shorter ranged, hardly do any more damage. They also weight twice as much for SPLs and MPLs.

They have a single noticeable benefit, that simply isn't enough. cMPLs are rather garbage, since they have identical heat to ERMLs.

I don't think you can make use of 8 energy hardpoints with ghost heat. And 2AMS and the XL365 engine sounds like a lot of fun. 90 kph, jump jets... my cup of tea.

6x MLAS
2x (ER)LLAS or LPL or PPC

or 8x MPL

Grasshopper is a way better mech then Blackknight. This pack is awesome, the Panther, Enforcer and Grasshopper were some of my favourites in MPBT 3025 and with how the Hopper's setups look it is going to be a lot of fun.

Been saying that in the appropriate threads, and people thought they were as useful as gold.

I forget which Grasshopper got the double energy hardpoints on the side torsos, as that version might get the most play... despite the variant with the energy in its head.

  • Panther - 2xLL/2xERLL sniper with JJs or 3xML+2xSRM4 brawler.
  • Enforcer - 5P Gauss+ERPPC/AC10+ERPPC all in one side, the rest are either laser snipers or AC20(?)+ML Brawlers.
  • Grasshopper 5N with 2xLL+6xML - is IS Timberwolf with minor drawbacks.
  • Zeus - Awesome with balistic arm, sadly, because it won't help.
Might be the first pack I'm going to buy.

... Am I reading that correctly? The Panther 10K comes with Artemis, despite having 2 missile slots in its center torso?

Brain... cannot parse.

Going to be far too hot for me. Pointless. Something like 38% heat efficiency at best.

I wonder if the Hopper is as tall as the Atlas, fast tall mech with jets should be interesting.
