There isn't a proper place for them to put ads without pissing a lot of people off, most games aren't scummy enough to place ads in the game itself and as a professional site that's largely community based it wouldn't fit on mwomercs.com either.

Can you imagine how much people would flip their **** to have such intrusive ads shoved in their face? I can't emphasize enough how terrible an idea like that is.

Exactly. Make it opt-in, with the reward being a very slow trickle of MC for those that do.

Except they'll probably never make back the development costs for that feature, not to mention the PR disaster adding it even as an opt-in probably would be.

There are so many ways they could give us options to give them money. I really can't see any way adding ads in any form whatsoever won't turn around to bite them.

PGI and the community have done everything possible to market, and advertise MechWarrior online using methods of free advertising. (Youtube, Podcasts, Conventions, tournaments, Free giveaways, Facebook, Twitter.)

Advertising and Marketing is a hard formula: For every $100 made $1 is suppose to be spent on Advertising and Marketing.

Now some companies mostly the dumb ones break this rule, and for every $100 made they spend up to $95 dollars. Doesn't leave much profit.

Other really dumb companies spend more on advertising than they make in profit. This is known as future forecasting were your spending money you haven't even made yet. Also known as rolling in 2nd quarter profits. Were your projecting extra revenue for the next quarter, and spending based on that projection.

So how much do you advertise? Depends on time, and release of new content. So the next major advertising period is full out community warfare launch. 6 month from the release date you should see a massive advertising blitz to generate new players. This should include a 30 sec commercial, Several PC game magazine articles, G4 interviews, Massive Game convention tour. There should be a bonus c-bill reward if you sign up for a account at the game convention. such as a one time promo code for $20,000,000 c-bills and 1-3 mech bay. Allowing them to get a jump start into the game and buy a few mechs.

I suppose I would be less hostile towards that, but I still wouldn't like it much, and it would also depend on the details.
