Hopefully they wouldn't make the atmosphere impossibly hazy, dull and thick in their usual attempt to obscure vision/range for everyone who doesn't tweak..

Kind of reminds me of the Solaris VII Arena in this one.(Battle starts at 7:00 if you want to skip all the preparation parts)
Awesome idea. There needs to be some sort of reason for being down the bottom, however, as the higher edges of the crater would infer a vast tactical advantage against those slumming it further down. Direct fire would be more accurate, and LRM's would be utterly deadly. There would have to be some serious thought put into cover. Also, if it was a steep enough slope, faster mechs could also end up doing the leg-break-bounce-shuffle every time they changed direction, so care would need to be taken.
Maybe even some water at the bottom, that offers a drastic cooling bonus to anyone standing in it?

Hmmm. If it were a kidney shape, perhaps the inner part of the crater could have some structures on it.
Making me wonder if you're thinking of suggesting a map like how this one is laid out.

A stadium for all the Esport wannabes to fight in?

I assume you're just kidding around and not actually using the term "wannabe" as an insult for people with different preferences

I definitely think it would be healthy with more diversity in this game. More e-sports, more realistic warfare, more PvE... people should all be able to enjoy Battletech in whatever flavour they prefer.
That being said, I agree with you that a "crater map" sounds like something more enjoyable as a Solaris map than otherwise. We've already got a bunch of maps with virtually no cover. The term "thinking man's shooter" doesn't feel applicable when both teams are just charging each other across an open wasteland.

Well, there could be huge installments of mobile machinery in the middle alongside other mining-related buildings for cover. Something like http://www.wohlfahrt...e%20Bagger.html

Planetside 2 has a pretty dope part of their continent called the "J908 Impact Site". One of my favorite places in that game!

So you want an arena? A Solaris arena dug out of the earth through some nan-made or celestial object? Just some overly complicated, convoluted, round about justification for an arena bowl?
Yeah, I don't like it.

You already got it. It's called Mining Collective.

Jeez, good thing you aren't all map designers...
And the last thing lights want are tunnels with "wait to shoot me here" entrances.
