They wanted to 'mirror' the timeline of the Battletech universe, but that's gone out the window.

Naturally, players in MWO don't become 'canon' mercenaries (and thank goodness that 'Capt. Poopie Pantz' and the like can't make the cut).

So what kind of non-canon things could they include that would have you screaming (either for joy or frustration)?

Original mech designs?

Non-canon weapons or equipment?

How they nerfed Clan Tech?

Discuss!

Edit: I don't know how to spell 'cannon' :P

Unicorn cavalry. Firing laser beams out of their tiny horns.

Just a heads up, the word you're using is actually spelled "canon."

As for adding things to the game that are not canon, I'm fine with it but it should be done only as a last resort for a balance change. I think this universe has plenty of material to work with and adding stuff can take away from that. Things like hero mechs are completely fine, though.

They are already introducing some custom variants...

But the timeline still holds.

You have to remember all the Mechwarrior games are considered not to be canon in terms of timeline / meta. Rather they are considered alternative actions and timelines created in the simpits. If I recall correctly from the explanation given a few years ago around mech 4 is that the battles were considered "simpit replays" or something like that.

Like how the btech cartoon is considered "canon" in that it was a childs propaganda show that aired in the Inner Sphere during the invasion.

Well, kinda.

One Panther doesn't exist until 3051, CTF 3D isn't until 3050, but that's excusable since it used to be 3050.

I don't think a lot of people do know this. For example all of mech 4 campaign was considered as far as "canon" goes a simpit doing a "what if" simulation of events. Thats why you have alt endings etc.

None of this is remotely on-topic so I'll attempt to re-phrase my original post:

How would you feel about about brand-new non-canon mechs being introduced to the game, not just variants but entire chassis? What about weapon systems and supplementary equipment?

As long as it's not Flamer bad, or Jesus Box good, maybe.

Im fine with it because again - just throw out some "its alt universe" fluff and there ya go.

I have been a VERY strong advocate in getting the HammerHands in game but with WarHammer TRO specs and then claim "Well the WarHammer was never made because they kept making advancements on the HammerHands and as such the Hammerhands never become obsolete/replaced and continues to be made."

This game is basically taking place within Eternal Warrior...the fictional holovid series from the Battletech universe.

There's absolutely zero reason for PGI to waste resources developing art and designs for new weapons or mechs when there is a ton of existing content they already have access to through the license. They could keep up their current release schedule for probably the next 7-8 years with Battletech Technical Readouts that are already in print.

How? Are we jumping a year?

It's almost 3050; still '49.

http://mwomercs.com/clock

Panthers are being released in February 3050; a full 8 months before '51.

Just stating that fact.

Prototypes of the mech would of already been around long before any "production" date for any of the mechs we have now. So any mech that was produced in 3050/3051 would of had its prototypes already being made and tested in 3049. With MWO that means we can use these mechs now since there is no "production" system in the game. If we had an actual economy in the game with supply/demand for mechs, then it would be different. Alas we do not.

Ahh crap... I forgot they reset the timeline to 3049...

I still run my 3050 hologram in my mechs so it keeps throwing me off.
