Alternately you can drop the MG and ammo, DHSes and one of the ERML to fit a SSRM6 and 1.5 tons of ammo with an -S arm.

The dire wolves I play with always thank me for bringing my ams tricked out kit fox. Oh and by the way that is in group que as you do still see lrm's. However I do tend to play bodyguard role alot with many of my mechs.

As for you people who refuse to bring it. Thank you as you make it easier to take my medium mech out and shred an assault or at the very least soften up several assaults every game. Oh and yes I do notice the ones who do not have AMS coverage and target them first because I prefer to LOS fire missles whenever I can. When I don't (which is rare) I have spotters who are usually narcing.

If I bring a lrm boat that is heavier than a medium it usually has some means to snipe so that after you are softened up by my lrms I can snipe to finish you off.

No I am not the best player out there but there is a right way and a wrong way to use lrms. Even in a group que they can be usefull though I hesitate to bring a dedicated lrm boat into group ques without a dedicated narcer or two.

So yep, ams on almost every mech though there are a few exceptions.

We're pretty much saying the same thing.

Though I favor the armor over the other half ton of MG ammo, rarely get to use all 1000 with just two MG's.

Yeah this is the build I use except I have 192 armor and a full ton of MG ammo (and all the arm actuators).

A top priority hehehe. Oh boy, funny but still depressing..

To be fair they would have to balance it out pretty well or you would likely get people abusing it, and you have to also consider that using an AMS cuts down certain players final scores and by proxy, their payoff, so in a way AMS already impacts the payoff economy, just in a negative for lrm users.

For me, BAP/CAP is a higher priority than AMS, primarily because it cancels the ECM of UAVs, so if someone launches a UAV near me it shows on my minimap so i know to shoot it. The extra sensor range/targeting time is just gravy.

If you arent on sensors, you arent getting shot by LRMs ;)

If i could change builds after seeing the gamemode, i might use AMS on escort missions, but id prefer escort just died in a fire, or failing that at least remove the goddamn game breaking radar towers, or make them destructible.

I haven't equipped AMS since maybe 2014* when this thread was made, and never once have I thought I should equip it since then.


*I was in a unit that did a lot of CW and they insisted everyone take AMS - it was actually effective when all 12 of you have it but it's not like there is actually much strategy in CW.

You just proved how useful it is. MS also did AMS umbrella group and we strolled through Polar and reached the enemy lines without losing a single mech to LRMs, even when the enemy scouts were trying to NARC. Herd immunity and all that. ;)

I'd like to believe that the whining against poptarts is what it is because it's a pretty good counter to LRMs.

There are two types of people on this thread - those without AMS complaining about OP LRMs and those with AMS wondering what the first group is on about.

But if everyone starts equipping AMS there will be no more LRMs and my extra heat sink won't have to feel lonely sitting in the storage shed.

Also I don't think I've ever had AMS equipped once I removed it from the silly mechs that had it loaded stock, why would I start that silliness now? Is Russ going to start removing rocks and buildings if we don't all have AMS by Thursday?

-- Lastly, radar derp doesn't take up tonnage or even a module slot anymore. So LoL. XD

1. LRMs will disappear once everyone collectively uses AMS. After a while people will remove AMS and LRMs will resurge again, which means AMS will be useful again. It will be a natural balance.

2. AMS is not just for you, it is also for your teammates. Longer they live, better for you. That rock might be able to hide you, but what of your mates around you?
