What PGI has done is attributed the Omni-Pod system to being able to swap about hardpoints when hardpoints are the limiting factor in Inner Sphere customization. So a compromise that fits the reasons of Lore, avoids bad game design decisions and also ensures differences between Omni-mechs and conventional Battlemechs.
Funny for the last two years Ive been hearing the exact opposite argument

While IS mechs could be customized, it was very expensive, time consuming, and there was a limited number of facilities that could do it so probably less than 1% of mechs were. OTOH Clan mechs were designed to be able to swap pods, and so each Clan mech could be customized from one mission to the next in a very short time (hours or days, not sure).

Time to rethink that one.
Maybe allow each account to have two or more Persona's. IS and Clan.
This is EXACTLY what they want you to do, you will have to cave eventually and end up spending money on 2 accounts to get anywhere in this game instead of just the one.

I think in the recent CW townhall they did on NGNGTV Russ said that they actually can't do that in the game engine. Someone please correct me if i misunderstood. Sounds like either BS.... or incompetence, I don't know which is worse.
So long as they segregate your cbill and XP earnings and make it so you can't share between profiles, there is nothing wrong with this. and there's no difference between a player making another account with a different email address. Why try to stop people from doing something by making it inconvenient when they can still work around it.

Sounds like a lot of their decisions have come back to bite them in the behind, like Cryengine.

A dude from my house/clan/guild/whatever asked PGI if he could trade in his Clan mechs for their MC value because he was going to be strictly IS due to the House we are in being strictly IS (Davion loyalty shttooofff). Anywho, he was refunded the MC and was able to spend it on IS mechs that he is going to use in CW.
I have the Clan pack versions. I couldn't get the MC value back if I wanted.
Nor do I want.
I like my Clan mechs, but I love my IS mechs. I've spent large amounts on both.

Or, after a period of time in which both sides have "salvaged" mechs from the opposition, to allow them to use said mechs.
Will I switch from being a Drac to a trashborn, even for a month to just allow me to run clan mechs? I do not see myself doing that. And because of how mechs will be locked to Clan or IS, and it is not clear how the open queue will affect things, if any, I see no reason to purchase clan mechs, even though I really want to.
My take on how MWO will work once CW is in full swing of things (I could be wrong) but from what has been described, MWO will essentially be broken into two sections (and to put it in familiar terms): the open queue is the current queue setup and it has no/zero/zip affect on the game as a whole(Microsoft gaming zone for MW4/etc) but continue to earn C-Bills/exp, then the CW queue (in line with MW4 leagues/EA's MPBT 3025).

Mostly due to mixing up rules and structure for the TT which often limits players to official variants, and the lore behind hundreds of years of Succession Wars. Goes as far to have several mechs like the Clint built with non-standard parts which in the drought of the proper parts for said mech forced extensive modification of standardized parts to just fit normal repairs. Many Inner Sphere mechs have been in service for generations, in countless battles and as a result ripped apart (by battle) and put back together (by repairs) countless times. Salvaging the broken husks of your enemies was common practice.

owning more than one mech was not
making repairs was hard
making alterations even harder
"building" a new mech from spare parts next to impossible
if you're talking lore and TT

We thank everyone who has constructively participated in the discussion until now.
As a result of the on-going hostilities coming out of this thread, I am closing it down now.
Thanks for your understanding!
