I didn't bother trying to grind out this mech.

After over 15 matches alone where team members got a kill and then hid away from the battle hoping for a win, I realized I did not want to spend my entire weekend frustratingly trying to grind for something I would never even use (I have Victor unlocks completed already for 3 variants).

Funniest thing though is there was one match I was in where we had 6 mechs left, all within 40-60% health remaining and all hiding away individually hoping for a win, and one enemy mech left at around 85% health. Well, long story short, the one enemy went through and picked off targets one at a time and eventually won the match.

Loved this Challenge!

The survival mechanic is excellent! Adapt or die. Great flavor. The changing criteria for weekly challenges is a great idea. It's a little something for everybody once in a while.

My Challenge Data:
- Completed in Stormcrows
- 43 Matches (22 Wins = 21 Loss)
- 31 "Valid Kill" Matches (45 Kills)
- 42 "Valid Assist" Matches (241 Assists)
- 16 Deaths = 27 Survives!

Those LRM boats that are so aggravatingly effective ... That was ME :P.
Those kill steals to finish the match with a win so we don't die to the red team rush ... That was ME :P.
Those kills not taken after my first so all other blue team members had a chance for a kill themselves ... That was ME ;). You are welcome.

@PGI
Thanks for the premium time
Thanks for the Victor

Hmm........I did take out 6 mechs in one game when we were 3-6 down and eventually won 12-9.

Talk about a difficult one. Being a team game I don't care for the survive portion of it, though I dont get a lot of kills so that one is hard enough for me as it is.

There was a lot of that going around. A team would go up by one or two kills, the team, sensing blood, would then go off in all directions hunting for "their kill," while the other team gathered up, rallied, and then wiped our team out. Sadly, my calls of "GATHER UP - WE'RE TOO SPREAD OUT" went ignored because tourney...

Happens to me all the time. Especially when I am driving too. Birds, bright stars, suspended stuff over roads... hehe.

It took me 58 matches to get all the points. I feel it is a bit too much considering past events. This 1 point per game formula isn't very good and penalizes good players when compared to multi-point per game type of score (where performance reflects on a higher number of points achieved).

Also, having these grind-based events all weekends will begin to tire people up and in the end, demotivate from playing the actual game. That's my opinion of course. Nevertheless, thank you for the free stuff, PGI.

NEVER EVER use "WIN AND SURVIVE" as a requirement for a challenge again! NEVER!

Well, I failed, 5/20, I was not able to play enough games this weekend. :-( Oh well, at least now I can allocate my full amount of gaming time to Dragon Age (until next weekend's challenge).

In this "To the Victors" challenge, you´re really ruinning game dynamics by rewarding players with no backbones. Come on, instead of "surviving", ask for something more epic like "get at least 3 kills". You´ll have players fighting with balls and trying to live long enough to get the 3 kills. I don´t know, it´s just a thought. But avoid rewarding bad piloting, please.

And with that you'll end up with the following dynamic : players holding back to steal kills, maiming their team mates so they can't get their next kills and when they've reached 3 kills they just let themselves get killed in order to pass to the next match more quickly ---> which ends withmany many threads telling PGI how they should have thought about how this ruins peoples week end and yadda yadda ...

At least surviving is a simple enough rule (which will have people in the long run play smarter if they wish to gain the real rewards) and adds the flavor that in MW your Mech is literally more important then the pilot riding in it, you don't waste a Mech period.

pretty sure it's much easier to find some work and earn enough money to buy a mechbay and a victor than to complete this challenge.

Well, 45 games later and at 9 at night, I've only gotten 12 points. After about 10 hours of playing this challenge, this is what I am seeing.

1: Lurms. Lurms everywhere. Enemy or friendly gets targeted, and does not have radar derp, good luck to them.

2: Pulse lasers. About half the team on my side is boating some sort of pulse laser, from firestarter to battlemaster. Had one game where three wubolts took out half out team in thirty seconds.

3: Cowardice. Almost every match there is one or two people that get their kill and assist, go hide, and threaten to report you for 'aggression' when you tell them to fight against the two remaining enemy's. I had a match where it was me, in my metawhale, two LRM boats with a lot of secondary weapons, and a brawler trenchbucket. I had just finished killing two people when the last enemy, a raven, snuck up behind me and got a easy kill off my red ct. Meanwhile, the rest of my team was busy huffing it back to base cause they were afraid of dying. All of them except one refuse to fight cause their afraid of losing their point. They just eventually waited for the clock to go.

4: DireWhales. Not a huge problem, but I've been seeing so many more whales per match now then before. Idk why. Their fun to kill anyways.

5: Pin-point alphas. Walk out in the open for a second, bye bye armour. Frustrating sometimes, but if you can't beat them, join them! :D

6: Some actually good matches. A few of the matches I played this weekend were actually good. People were sharing kills and not hoarding.

7: Some really bad matches. Matches where a firestarter pulseboat on our team goes around killstealing. Matches where friendly legs my spider cause I was about to kill for my point when he steals it as his 4th kill. Not good public play in this challenge. I had a match were a guy took command and told us to move to c5 on canyon. I move there, get surrounded, while everyone else on my team ran, leaving me to die.

Here's my summary.
44 matches
22 wins
19 losses
46 kills
22 deaths
A crap load of assists
10 hours of play
And only 12 points.

Conclusion: I think this challenge is a little time depending, especially on players like me who does not have much time per day to play video games. Maybe getting the mech at 10 instead of 20, or having secondary prizes might have made this more fun, but I think this challenge brought out the worst of people. Maybe also doing challenges over the week would help too.

Nice try on a challenge PGI, but this was not fun.

And to all those who hide and cower in fear and hide when you do these kinds of challenges, please don't do that and let others have fun.

Thanks for reading to the end of this ramble,
Eap

:D

Thanks PGI for the nice challenge.
I had lots of fun. PT and VTR is much appreciated too.
Surviving should matter most in every single MW:O match. There are enough online games out there where dying has little to no consequences. I hope you will do more challenges along these lines in the future.

I found it easier to get in the top 15 of a leaderboard for a tournament than I did to get the points for this challenge. 13/20 points, primarily because LRMfest doesn't suit my playstyle. Unfortunately everyone was so scared of dying, that at least half of each team was full of LRMboats. This immediately favored the clan mechs because those mechs can field LRMs on pretty much any chassis at minimal cost. Pretty brutal and at times had me ready to quit (first time I've had that thought in 2 years of playing). Definitely don't recommend a similar setup in the future.

Wait - were you guys tracking this stuff, or is there an actual screen you can see where it lists it? I'm curious what got me there (I suspect mostly my Misery and 4LPL build 3F).

I disagree. Just an example: a good Atlas (or assault overall) will push. That's why they're called assault, and they're eventually gonna go down while pushing.
And a good team, on the other hand, will kill the others before they kill your pushing Atlas :D
An Atlas standing behind and shooting his LRMs is always a letdown to see, because it misses the purpose of an assault mech.
Playing smart does not mean playing cowardish.

I'd like to see a challenge with team bonuses as requirements, for example: get 8 assists+kills and 1 "most damage dealt" reward.

I completed this challenge in 43 or 45 matches without using a lrm boat or hiding after getting a kill. This wasn't a bad challenge, although a challenge where assists or kills by lrms don't count would make it interesting to see how good the lrm'ers really are at piloting a mech.
