As much as talking to 11 other numb nuts would pain most any person, the game needs VOIP. It is a team game, and the lack of VOIP has done 2 things. It's allowed pug players to go off and do their own thing in a match, usually resulting in them getting out gunned and killed, and secondly, the lack of coordination has caused pugs to draw the ire everyone else. VOIP would at least allow the option of dropping solo, but still participating in team play.

But the whole "Group up or gtfo" attitude really isn't going to help things in the long run. TDM games have always had solo players, and probably make up the bulk of the player populations. If they leave, you aren't having a game to play. So keep telling puggers to "group up or gtfo" because a lot of them choose to gtfo instead of group up.

I disagree. Wanna talk strategy with team mates? No problem.. Join a group, drop in the group queue. Wanna play casually without all that, that's what the pug queue's for.

Some of us, the ones not just being a **** for lolz, simply can't chat while we play. It's not practical.

It's not the starting gameplay elements alone that are running off the new people, it's that and a complete lack of any way to communicate with anyone else playing the game, whether it's in a lobby or in the game itself... If a team could truly be a team and communicate at the very least ingame, new players would stay longer and learn faster...

Just look at the forums. There's a lot of "Get out/GTFO", "Leave", and "Uninstall" being thrown around. I've even seen it in-game before the default settings for chat were changed. What's really bad is the fact it's allowed to happen.

Also, about the in-game VOIP. I really don't see what the issue is with having it. It's in almost every game that requires teamwork and most of them have the option, as Tyros said, to turn it off. Yes, that does disable your ability to coordinate with your team but having it as an option you have to actually go in and disable would be important. There would also have to be the consideration of the ability to Mute/Squelch people as well as report their VOIP behavior.

To be fair to F4T 4L, it is PGI, so they'd probably forget to put in a squelch feature. Or if they did, it would be horrifically bugged and cause your mech to explode before it crashed your game.

I would hate to see the development time wasted when there are already option out there. It isn't like MWO players are console invalids, we can install VOIP client when a and if e want to participate.

So there's a VOIP client that will connect you to everyone that's on your team, in your game, automatically?

You can run 2 VOIP clients at the same time. I like to use my TS for my friends, and prefer in-game VOIP for the rest of you... people.

But hey, at least it would meet the deadline for release! Even if it's buggy and barely works.

As a solo advocate and merc unit member, all I can say is I have no interest in listening to random pubby chat. However when I want to group and compete I use my unit preferred Voip application.

In short, you may want to talk at me, but I don't want to hear you. So I feel it is a waste of PGIs resources to add VoIP that many will opt out of.

I have a differing opinion. There is always the "disable in-game VOIP" option. Although, it would need to put a little icon next to you in the Mute/Report list that shows you've done this that way others are aware that you're muting VOIP.

first of all, this thread sucks. OP your posts, from what I can tell, are totally incoherent and I don't see what anyone can gain from them, whether they care about the lore or not lol.

Everyone is getting sidetracked talking about in-game VOIP...this should be discussed on another thread, and I think it already has been ad nauseum.

This is what PUGs need to know. For participating in CW, PGI is offering players 1) A new game mode (Dropship/Planetary Assault whatever you want to call it) that you won't be able to experience in non-CW matches. 2) Extra rewards for participating in CW (extra money from contracts).

People have been asking for dropship mode since day one, and more c-bills is just ... well everyone wants that.

These two things will draw PUGs to play CW....even if they aren't in a group. If the rewards offer more C-Bill earnings than regular games. So given that opportunity for more rewards I think we will see a ton of regular pugs who want to try CW out, even if they get obliterated by competitive teams and lack of ELO.

Unless PGI makes dropship mode available to non-CW players and also gives extra rewards equivalent to the contracts... then CW will only be played by competitive units who want to show off how great their team is, or those who are die-hard BT roleplayers who want to help their faction.

I've made a simple venn diagram that illustrates why I think in-game voice is a pretty big waste of time for the players we are all discussing.

I think there are ways to get PUGs interested in CW

That way involves knowledge

What is CW, how does it work (short and sweet)

Now the biggest reason not to get involved in CW is all the {Dxxxs'} we run into in the solo area
From team killers to the ones that say you guys suck

Last week after watching a team kill I swore I would never join that faction but after the town hall meeting I am sort of interested

I would love to log onto the game and see four modes
Assault, conquest, skirmish, and CW

Select CW a pop-up comes up

Select your drop deck

Do you have com yes or no?

The units would have a selection if they will accept a filler or not

The Pug can drop with someone that needs a hand

That slot could be dedicated to PUGs if the guy bails after one of the re-spawns another replacement fills in

This is not unlike the real world
The Army has replacement depots and they issue solders like weapons

The AF fill its slots with volunteers
They could be unit size (lance) or just one person

Forget VOIP, can we just have a damn chat room for some level of interaction? It isn't like we haven't had the technology for a very long time. Heck just integrate an existing IRC client with rooms......probably could do it for FREE.

...and if the CW plan remains as it is, most soloists will leave CW, just like I said.

I argued from day 1 of Closed Beta that every single drop should take place within the CW framework and that the CW framework should be conducive to various types of play. It's kinda amazing, in my mind, how poorly received the idea was - not by the Devs, who just ignored everything except requests for new mechs - but poorly received by the other CB players.

It's dumb to have the community so split up - but whatever, PGI has their own goals which may or may not be a thriving MWO a year from now.
