As for MechWarrior, I started with the original. Loved the Rifleman and the Shadow Hawk in that game. Go to max range of your AC5, zoom in, target an enemy mech, and fire. The shots always tracked directly to the head. Way awesome on defensive missions.

My favorite mechs are numerous so i list my favorite of each weight class.
Assault mech: Sunder, for its higher mobility and torso turn rate compared to others, it manouvers as if it were a lighter chassis while still mainting good armor and firepower.
Heavy mech:Timber Wolf (Mad Cat), for its good overall performance in both speed and firepower at all ranges (plus it has an awesome look to it). (The Thanatos XT is a tie with its complete 360 rotation, heavy armor and excellent weapon loadout for Ballistic weapons).
Medium Mech: Uziel, simply because it was the first mech i got into when i began playing this series.
Light Mech: Cougar, an excellent loadout of weapons abilities and armor rating while still mainting great speed. You have got to appreciate those clan mechs.
To pass the time i am still currently playing Mechwarrior 4:Mercenaries.

Now, some of you will turn your nose up at the Hunchie IIc but when we played tabletop you always called which mech you were playing as. What can I say, we are nerds. Did the same thing in college and later when I was an officer. You know, it is suprising how many knuckle dragger types will play battle tech when you start talking tactics and such.
So, you want to come for me? Say hello to a lance of Hunchback IIs when you come gunning for me. Fast, jump jets and plenty of shots to the back. My mech might get destroyed, I might get killed. However, the battlefield will be litered with your dead. Like we used to say back in the day, "Kill the meat, save the metal. We got a contract [for the salvage]."

As you can tell, I've been playing Battletech longer than there have been computer games, so I'll leave it at that

Started with MW2 at a friends place and was instantly hooked. Bought every MW game I could get my hands on since, including table top versions. Dove into the books and the TV show (painful to watch now that I'm older lol). Glad to see this game is making a come back in two forms, MWO and MWT.

For an Inner Sphere mech I think it'd have to be the Warhammer, it's so iconic.
