Can't get carried here in puglandia, so suck it up, and invest in more back armor.

Really? Haven't thought that through, have you? If they're "group queue mouthbreathers", they'd be playing this in the group queue. This isn't a solo only challenge. Leave your axe grinding at the door, for gods sake.

That is all.
Man, what is up with this? With this challenge not being point based I didn't think it would cause this but I've been getting chewed to hell by FF. I just had a match in the new map where it was 4 on 1 against me on top of one of the mesas so I jumped down amongst my teammates to stay alive and they all proceeded to blast me to hell.

usually with that setup, you would be the person doing the shooting, anyhow. Most people don't know what their teammates are armed with. So either you have been lucky, haven't realized it was your team that shot you, or are far enough back to not be in the line of fire often. Probably.

Sadly, though, because they clearly made this one with the intent to improve team play. I think it'd have been better if they removed the "must survive" requirement, and as such reduced the rampant cowardice, even if just a little.

Something went wrong.
I wouldn't say never. I haven't played all the challenges/tournaments, but I've played in most, and it's been my experience that the standard tournament scoring leads to equally bad gameplay. See: Assist farming, suicidal extreme aggression, etc.
This one isn't good, but it's largely speaking an improvement... Still really crappy, though.
It's surprisingly difficult, I think, to design a scoring system that doesn't immediately make everyone play like *******, short of just asking for X wins.

I would never shoot a teammate unless they intended to kill me. You can see what your teammates are armed with when they fire and by the models. The gauss and PPC have very noticeable models.

I still don't shoot teammates even if they are killing me. I do take video and report, though, and I hope they enjoy their bans.
As to loadouts, nobody is particularly afraid of gauss/PPC timberwolves up close, no more than any other build. The gauss/ppc timby is deadly at range, when sniping merrily away, but has little chance against a laser/srm build up close. God knows, it'll take a lot more than two vollies to bring most mechs down.
There's a reason you don't see nearly so many gauss/ppc timbies anymore.

I run this loadout too. It can actually be very good at close range if you use cool shots and every alpha hits the ct.

Yeah, it's not bad. It's not new either, basically anyone with Timberwolves from the clan packs have got at least dozens of drops with it as pre-PPC nerf it was decidedly the go-to loadout.
This is what I mean. It's not a bad loadout, but nobody is going to cower in fear either, any more than they would from massed ASRM's or pulse laser vomit or whatever else.

They did that once.. and everyone played it in "3 methods of Deathmatch" as expected. That didn't solve a thing (this was the event with the Stormcrow/Shadowhawk/Mechbay discount).
I believe this is the correct PSA vid:
I tked one guy, but I think he was trying to steal a kill, but I had already fired my lasers and he didn't actually stop to see the laser fire... and while I apologized, I see this happening regardless.
Ironically, in the same match, I had a great game, as apparently I was a god amongst the men in that match. Go figure.
I think people need to be mindful/watchful of the firing lanes and to accept that friendly fire will occur (easier to figure out with lasers, not so much with PPCs/Gauss), but people really need to be "intelligent" in how they reposition themselves before firing. Most bad accidents stem towards a "bad decision"... either by the target of the FF, or the guy that fired the weapons. Sometimes both are to blame.
Besides, the surviving aspect is worsened by TKs, since the target of the FF is immediately disqualified at getting the point. If there was something to discourage that (like team damage limit of some #, rather than a straight TK) to make people mindful of where they are shooting, that would be better. Right now, there's no consequence and it's a whole PITA as it is with people not being careful (shooter and target).

and then you get words if "wisdome" like this. I happen to be a group queue guy and I happen to enjoy the event. Try again.
Mouthbreathers and tryhards yes, group queue no.

No, I pointed out that you have no way of commenting about anything regarding this game because you HAVEN'T PLAYED IT.
period
your opinion is made from an ignorant standpoint because you CAN'T have anything relevant and current to say about the game because YOU HAVEN'T PLAYED IT.
"Pizza hut sucks!"
"Why do you say that?"
"I ordered pizzas form them for 2 years and 6 months ago I got tired of them. I haven't ordered from them in 6 months because their ingredients suck"
"You do no they updated their ingredients list right?"
"It doesn't matter, 6 months ago it sucked so it must suck now!"
"How do you know?"
"Well uhm... just because dammit!"
