And both the ER Large Laser and ERPPC would be better options all-round.
Especially once clantech comes around.
AC/2: 7 tons minimum (6+1). 24 maximum range. 2 damage/hit.
ERLL: 5 tons. 19 maximum range. 8 damage/hit.
ERPPC: 7 tons. 23 maximum range. 10 damage/hit.
Clan ERLL: 4 tons. 25 maximum range. 10 damage/hit.
Clan ERPPC: 6 tons. 23 maximum range. 15 damage/hit.
Clan LPL: 6 tons. 20 maximum range. 10 damage/hit.

And the LB-2X autocannon doesn't exist for the IS until 3058.

It's why the HSR-200-D Hussar carries a Laser instead of an Autocannon.

Sure... when I can take 6 hits from an AC/2 before it's gone, I'd much rather worry about whatever packs a Large Laser or PPC of any kind - two hits to my CPit from those and it's gone.

Yes i do see your point. But imagine this---You've been in a tough fight and your left torso which houses most of your heatsinks and you only remaining long range weapon is protected by a very thin layer of armor.
Which weapon would you fear the most now?
An ER PPC or an AC 2? If somebody misses with an ER PPC their heat will be high and the ER PPC's recycle is long for no gain, but an AC 2 would have a higher firerate and thus be far more dangerous in this case because of it.

The AC 2 is a crit hunting weapon which is far more accurate than LRM's.

I've gotten more kills in TT with a Jagermech hiding behind a hill and waiting until enemy units are tied down then pelting them from afar.

Hell, in one of my games, I managed to get 6 U-AC/2 onto a heavy and just dominated.

OMG Machine Gun is useless remove from game... wait, what? My Awesome just got backstabbed by a Hatchetman with 12 MG's? 2 Engine crits??! Screw this, I'm going home.

I have a suggestion - to help the newbs why don't we remove all weapons except the ER PPC and the Gauss Rifle (take out all lasers as they are DoT and thus need some practice to use)? This will remove the confusion they will feel when looking at the plethora of weapons available, when all they want is "the best".

I think Kracken pilots would disagree with the AC2 being pointless.

Also some people dont play a mech or use weaponry simply because its the best. Some people like to play theme mechs and have fun that way. More options are always better, look what happened to SWG when they dumbed down the crafting because of netweenies couldnt figure it out.

The problem is the masses of new players who doesn't know the crappiness of the AC/2.

Keeping the new players happy, playing and paying is the success of MechWarrior Online.

Are you getting my point?

Back in the days of MW2 the ac2 was a very underused piece of equipment. but pissed lots of ppl off with my sommener and its 4 ac2's lrms and small pulse laser

The real reason: it's crap so remove it.

only crap till you learn how to set a mech up to use them effectively

Ok your AC/2 against my AC/20... I guess it will be hard to determine who would have won.

Sure, I'll take that. Ill stay at about 800 meters, and plink away while you struggle to close in to your range of 400. That is until I blow your arm off and take that ac/20 with it.

I will make it a point to load a mech up with ac/2's and find you. Wouldn't it suck to get killed with a "crappy", "useless" weapon that only noobs would use? Who is the noobier- the person new to the game using gear nobody else does because he doesn't know better, or the "experienced" guy who gets his arrogant hineybutt handed to him by said noob?

+1

You assume that you will do those two points of damage at maximum range and you also assume that you will hit anything and you also assume that I'm playing in some little light mech with almost no armor.

You assume a lot there my friend.

and you assume that you are better than everyone on the fourm. Smells bad to me.

I give it one day of gameplay and someone will be on the forums complaining about a machinegun loaded mech. Bad players complain about everything but their own skill and a good player can make a percieved waste of space into an annoying death machine.

In MW4(I know, not the best comparison) I loaded up an Annihilator with 16 mg's and went into SA with that. I completely pwned anything that got in front of me. That thing was brutal to say the least. Also to the ac/2 argument, there is one important point that seems to be getting missed about it that has nothing to do with damage... rocking. If devs model impact rocking, then the ac/2 will become a much more desirable weapon. Imagine a heavy with 4 ac/2 on it chain firing them to keep the target mech rocking. Target will have a helluva time keeping me in the crosshairs while I plink away until he runs or dies.

Also, that ac/20 refire rate is about 5 seconds on that video posted earlier. That immediately eliminates the "2 dmg over ten sceonds" argument. If they scale the ac/2, it seems a refire of 1 second or less would be accurate.

Pipedreams are good to have but now give it a rest and say hello to my LRM 20.

Considering you insulted my debating skills earlier, your own arguments are basically pants, really, aren't they?

I have yet to see any of your amazing debating skills.

Please tell me when that happens.

Fella, you need a hobby. Something to take your mind off...whatever it is that ails you so.
Perhaps your mummy should tuck you in bed and let you get a good night sleep. You are obviously grumpy when your tired.

That said...I never claimed I was amazing (although I am at some things, fair to say), but at least my answers have gone beyond the teenage classic of "because" and the ever jealous "my gun is bigger than your gun".

There's only one way to settle this.

Bigger fonts.
