I mean, it's a very, VERY niche build which would likely to lead to many frustrating combat scenarios, but at the same time it's quirks make it the best leg-biter of all mechs.

So? Opinions?

I love mine, post quirks especially. SRM16, XL280, 5 tons of ammo. For a comp drop, I'd up the engine and shorten the ammo. But I shoot five tons out in group queue fairly often. The no JJ thing is weird in a Jenner, but the other movement nerfs are gone and it handles pretty well. Pick your spots. Lots of fun.

Huginn? 'kay, can't alpha as hard as the oxide, but 60ish~ % on srm4 cooldown + mgs + JJs.. might consider it as the alternative.

I have and like both. I prefer the Oxide.

I prefer the Oxide too.
The need for the Huginn to keep sight on target because of the "machinegun" missiles is quite binding actually, and it makes you more vulnerable, less able to dodge. The Oxide allows you to move more freely, while keeping similar DPS.

You're right about it being very "niche", and sometimes frustrating when your team doesn't want to commit. That being said, in solo you'll probably found a lonely prey wandering carelessly; and in group it works great in a brawl comp.

Anyway, short answer short: yes.
This mech has a special feeling, like a dive-bomber, constantly jousting with its target, evading and suddenly bursting back. In no other mech I feel the same rush when in the melee.
I loved it even when the SRM hitreg was off. SRMs fixed made it my favourite mech. Quirks made it even better.
XL280, 4 SRM4s, 6 tons of ammo.

That is a beautiful film. I was moved. :D

And, yeah, the 35 point alpha hit and fade is exactly why it's better than the rapid fire of the Huginn.

Your choice of music immediately persuaded me to buy. Playing this on my MP3 player non-stop for the past few days. Michael McCann aka the Deus Ex Human Revolution musician is the best.

Héhé, I didn't expect that but I'm glad to read it.
McCann wrote some very nice pieces for Deus Ex indeed, or even for Splinter Cell, with a quite distinctive style. For those who don't know what we're talking about: http://soundcloud.co...haelmccannmusic

875 Drops in an Oxide and I have 4 in my stable for CW as a just in case situation. It is my go to light. I have some kitted out with the classic 280XL and 5 ton of ammo and others with a 265XL and 6 ton of ammo. There is a slight drop in speed which can make a difference for hitting and fading but sometimes that extra ton of ammo makes a big difference. Have tried the 3x6srms and they do make a bigger alpha hit (sometimes useful) but the SRM4 quirks gives a better sustained damage potential.

For myself this is the only mech that can outperform Heavies and Assaults for damage, kills and battlefield influence. Nothing nicer when getting behind an Assault/Heavy knowing that all you need it 3 alphas to take them down. 2 alphas with most mediums. TBRs and Stormcrows much harder to kill though.

As a light it is fragile though, even more so with plasma lasers becoming more popular with their pinpoint damage.

To me the Oxide is a heavy+ mech hunting/killer with medium mechs as appetizers. Lights are much harder to take down unless you get the drop on them or chasing them as they retreat.

The Huginn requires a lot more face time with your enemy which means they have more opportunities to take out the Raven legs or just shoot for the CT. Still a mech to be respected if encountering on the field.

Just my 2c worth.

Cheers!

I haven't driven mine yet .. Bought it a while back half off, but what you describe is exactly how I run the adder and do well enough in it.

:o
Holy shout!

PS: I agree, this mech is much more about killing bigger mechs than chasing lights.

Yes...so very sad. Did you happen to see the 931 damage dealt?
That was my preferred build before the SRM fix. It's still fun to play. :)

I saw that, and it's indeed pretty amazing your teammates gave you enough time to pull out this damage.

Streaks give you a DPS roughly three times lower than the regular SRM4s, and spread the damage randomly on all components. Moreover, the need for a lock binds you to a gamestyle that is the opposite of all why the Oxide is so great: jousting, flick-shots, etc...
This is just a waste.
