Hello fellow Wolverine Pilots!

I just bought my first mechs, and after a lengthy thread on which mech to buy first, I decided to go with the Wolverine! I had about 12m c-bills after my Cadet training and decision making to spend so I bought two chassis right off the bat! I got a WVR-7K and the WVR-6R. I'll save for the third while I am maxing out the exp on the other two. I want to use the Quirks to their best advantage as this makes most sense to my brain.

In the mean time, I am working on some builds. I really like SRM brawling, so I am concentrating on the 7k first. I think I've got a decent build that I am working towards, but could always use more advice.

WVR-7K

Right now, I cant afford the Arty and new SRM6packs yet, but even without it seems to be working well. This is what I am working towards however, unless there is something better.

As to the 6R, I am a little lost on, as I don't have much experience with ACs or I guess a Fore Support role? Might not have the experience, but I am willing to learn. Double AC/5s seems fun, maybe paired with an LRM of some kind. I did work this up as a test:

WVR-6R

Any comments, advice, and/or criticisms are muchly appreciated!

Thanks!

Your 7K build looks good. That's pretty much optimal for an SRM6 brawler using the available XL275. In the future you can improve the build with an XL300 and Endosteel, once you have more money.

My only suggestion would be to remove 1 JJ and some armor on the left arm, so that you can squeeze 1 more heat sink on the right torso, to run cooler. And you could move the JJ's into the side torsos to crit pad your SRM's.

For the 6R, double AC/5 is the way to go, but you need a lot more ammo to feed them, at least 6 tons. I'd recommend something more like this for you:

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...9d040e0e0f2d9d5

However, if you are good at shielding the right arm, I'd ditch the SRM4, and add 1 more ton of AC ammo and 4 more JJ. This is how I run my 6R:

With the fast fire rate of the AC/5 quirks, you can burn through all that ammo in a long match.

Edit: Added smurfy links.

What he said, except on the 6R if you're going with SRM's, change the SRM4 to 2 SRM2's (faster reload), and you can shave some armor off your legs and head to cram an extra ton of AC5 ammo in there (39pts on legs, 10 on head). 6 tons is bare minimum, I've burnt through 7 tons twice in 30 drops.

7K can be upgraded to endosteel + XL325 when you have the funds.

Hey, welcome to Wolverines! They are great mechs that people overlook and underestimate. Post quirks they are amazing fighters.

For the 7K, the first thing you need do is save up for Endo-Steel, which you probably know already. I run my 7K exactly as you have it configured, but with an XL300. Your build for this one is about perfect. If you find yourself needing more tonnage, you can safely drop the legs to the high-30s or low-40s. No one legs Wolverines.

For the 6R, consider that 2x LRM5s saves you a ton (which you can use for more ammo), and they have a higher refire rate than the single LRM10. When you have the hardpoints, you should always take 2x LRM5 over 1x LRM10. This is a universal truth. Dual AC5s need at least 4 tons of ammo. Try running the 6R like this You really should drop the missiles period, for even more AC5 ammo.

side note: feel free to add me in game, if you want more advice on MWO.

I prefer my facehuggers to be standard engine if possible, consider something like this as well.

All solid advice. Endo steel on the 7K is definitely top priority, after which you should be able to plop the regular 275 from your 6R in. Then you'll have a sturdier 7K and be able to move the engine to your 6R. There's not really much else that hasn't already been said.

Welcome to wolverine family! :)
Firstly about armor. I prefer max armor if possible so i dont strip legs. Some teams in group play go with snipe tactic and go for legs. In ALL build's go 14 points on rear CT and 12 points on rear ST's and max front armor.

7K is pretty straight forward: http://mwo.smurfy-ne...2e144de8147f6ec
If you want 1 aditional ton of ammo or one additional DHS, just strip legs and LA.

6R is somewhat versatile.
You can go AC/SRM brawler with: http://mwo.smurfy-ne...2afb40610f308c4
This build lacks Artemis upgrade so you have to remember missile spread

Or you can go full dakka with: http://mwo.smurfy-ne...18683984b0c0cc6 This build is more of a fire support-brawler and you have to protect your RA really well.

Finaly you can go full on fire support with: http://mwo.smurfy-ne...5a79e6e4e4ce3b9

6K is all about lasers, especialy LRG pulses:
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...0126971d3399a83

You can see i use XL300 in all of the builds. You can use your XL275 and just add more DHS, ammo or JJ's. You will do absolutely fine. But i highly recommend that you buy XL300 in the future.

This is what I'd aim for in the long run with the 7K.

The WVR-6R is a lot harder to build, due to a bit of hardpoint confusion it has going on. If you want to go with double-5s, then I'd really sink some weight into the ammo bins for it.

As a general rule, you can keep the legs on Wolverines maxed out by taking points from the empty "shield" arm, which you should be using to take hits until it falls off anyway. I also have found that 2 JJs is enough, though you can definitely mess around with some other things to add another JJ or two if you really want.

Well your gonna need the 6K eventually so I would suggest XL375, 121 KPH(if you can afford it), ENDO, FERRO, 1 ASRM6, 4 MLs, 1 MPL, and still fit plenty of DHS.

Why would you do that and not take advantage of the LPL quirks? They're silly good, as shown here:

Actually, the 4 LPL is too hot and slow for me, I like 3 LPL and XL 325 better. 30 point alphas from 500+m all day.

I like that! The only time I put in an XL engine is in lights. The rest I get killed too quickly. =]

I can't really expand on what the others have said really, though I would strongly recommend building them to go over 100kph.

I personally run my 6k with 2 LPL in the arm for some range (harassing) and an SRM6 for brawling, it's been working really well for me for the last few days.

The only mod I would make is on your fire support. I like what you have done, but personal preference is to install CASE and another half ton of ammo, by swapping out the LRM10 for two more LRM5 Well done on your builds!

haha that Wubverine is lolz!

Something to look forward too!

I'm having fun with my 7k so far. Almost enough saved to upgrade to Arty and 3 new 6packs. Cant wait!

Had my best 7k run so far, 1 kill, 8 assists, and 501 points of damage! Wish I knew how to take screenshots...

I run my 6k with 3LPL and 320/325XL .... you can take 4 and go for a smaller engine...

Press 'print' on your keyboard to save a screenshot.
they will be saved in your game directory under USER/Screenshots

Wubverine rulez! :-)

I often leave the head slot empty or install a TAG as I find it does not fit well with arm weapons.

My 6K build. You can alpha strike forever, even on hot maps. Plus you cool down really fast.

Extra LPLs don't do it for me.
