This is what we call the modern version of Lostech.

The answer is for targets to be autolocked as soon as you look at one for more than a tenth of a second.

One of the biggest problems with SSRMs is that you are actively chasing them, using WASD to move around a lot - also having to repeatedly press R everytime the enemy passes through your mech.....

Streaks cannot be twitch-fired. They require an extended time-on-target before they can be fired. That does not mean that are no-skill weapons, otherwise they would lock instantly.

Unless they're boated, no. Regardless, it's a poorly designed weapon system that serves as a deterrent well enough. If you want an autoaim weapon system to be as effective as everything else I'm not sure what to say.

Streaks require essentially no skill to use, so rewarding their use by making them as effective as weapons which require actual skill would be a mistake.

It already pays the price of being autoaim by being heavier than SRM2, spreading damage like crazy, being hard countered by ECM, all but requiring a BAP/CAP tax to alleviate the ECM hard counter nonsense, and being countered reasonably well by AMS.

Let's say that SSRM2 could fire without locks, it would still be taking up more tonnage to have the option, and if firing without locks then it would stop being autoaim at that point.

Quote

And? That's fine, if you only run something like 3 medium lasers anything will be fine fighting you. Run 6 though, and people will pay attention.

Medium lasers still a threat* as long as you have more than just 1.

Quote

So are medium lasers, machine guns, small lasers, small pulse lasers, medium pulse lasers, AC2s... you get the point.

Aside from those weapons not all being worthless unless boated extensively, the point is to try fixing the ones that still are, except people come in and throw a bitchfit about it because they want the weapon to stay worthless despite its numerous downsides.

Make SSRM2s lock onto CT only.

The margin of error you can have with streaks and other lock on weapons is incredibly higher than what's allowed with aimed weaponry.

I wouldn't call it incredibly its 10% for my stats from streaks2 to srm2. Thats not counting all the times i was never able to lock on because of an ecm :)

No. We used to have Streaks do that, and it was dumb for the game. CT-homing Streaks were pretty much an "lol I win" card against lights and mediums back in the day, and could be fairly powerful against heavier targets as well.

Streaks could use reform, but those reforms should focus on increasing their skill floor in exchange for higher effectiveness.

No, that's exactly what they should not do, for the same reasons that nothing else should do that.

How about we nerf the clan streaks. That will make the IS ones seem better by comparison.
Or just a complete re work on how they work.

I like the idea of at least giving the IS S-SRM-2 the same 360 meter range that the clan ones do.

Until what? the next time jump, IS won't see 4/6 pack streaks right?

By then we'll have MRM's and more goodies.

ROF increase would be nice. Doesn't need the range.

More to the point, a few more mechs need reasonable SSRM quirks ... and they should consider adding extra hard points to a few mechs. They already play a bit creative with hardpoints for ballistics; what would be the harm in putting (say) a second missile hard point on the SHDs that have CT ones already?

I think Clan and IS streaks having the same range would be a improvement. But it should be clans range going down not IS going up.

Fix is simple.

Increase damage on IS SRMs and SSRMs to 2.5 per missile

They weigh twice as much as clan SRMs and SSRMs.... so its not uncalled for.

Why do we need to buff an autoaim weapon that hard counters an entire class?

Been saying this since 2012.

I have learned the following answers:
  • Because you should just run away from mechs with streaks if you're a light mech
  • Because light mechs are overpowered and the poor assault mechs need the ability to wipe out light mechs with their backup weapons, when they're not busy killing real mechs
  • Because BT rulebooks say light mechs are inferior
  • Because SSRMs are super hard to use, while light mechs are easy mode
  • Because medium lasers have 30 meter more range than SSRMs, so just use range against mechs with streaks.

Wow, this is quite surprising to see so much hate for streaks. After so many "LoL L2P against LRMs noob" posts going around here, you would think that the same would apply to streaks.

streaks are garbage if you can aim anyway. all of them 2-6s.

Yeah, never been a fan of the RNG mechanic on them.

I'd make all SSRMs be softlock instead of hardlock — i.e. they will tend to follow the targeted mech in a corkscrew pattern tracking wherever the reticle is currently point at on the target while still locked. This would allow the pilot to make small corrections in aiming during the missiles' flight time to get more precise control of where the missiles hit. If lock is broken, the missiles will stop tracking and just fly in a straight pattern from that point.

It's only lately that Streaks have been weak - they used to be CT-homing death missiles that obliterated lights, mediums - even heavies and assaults.

Ever heard of the StreakCat? Look it up. It was a very effective build back in the day, and the Streaktaro after that.

Hell, a Commando COM-2D with 3 SSRM-2 and a ECM could wreck so much face I stopped playing mine.

So I think the hate is understandable. Nobody wants the OP SSRMs back, and if they languish in UP-land for a bit, nobody that's been around a while's going to complain.

Not if you are talking as accurate as Streaks. Anyone can spray 2 different sections of a mech with a Medium Laser by aiming as much as you do with a Streak... and most do.

The thing is, times have changed.

A streakcat with current streaks compared to clans is what?

Utter garbage.

A streakcat with streaks from before the nerf is compared to clans what?

still utter garbage.

Streaks are useless on IS, even when fighting IS vs IS they are useless at the moment.

There isn't much you can do for the SSRM2. A weapon system that sends a whopping 2 missiles, at random locations, will always be weak.

The only reasons Clan Streak boats seem effective, are that they come carrying multiple 4-packs and 6-packs, with a range of nearly 400 meters..
