I'll just add in my first drop in about a year, I took my King Crab out for a spin and nabbed a kill pretty quickly. Then another KC and his Hunchback buddy got me in a pincer maneuver (pun intended) and cored me fairly fast. Nice shooting on the part of that KC, but I ended the match with a kill from a CT core and death by the same and ended with 187 damage.

Just logged onto the forums for this precise reason. The number of clueless Crabs in the queue right now is astonishing.

"Dual AC/20? I'll just sit back here and plink at 600m."

I've had matches where I outscored our entire Crab lance . . .

. . . In a Hunchback-4SP

It's like shooting crabs in a barrel!

Love the huge XP and c-bill awards.

It's just totally demoralizing when the 54kph assault lance is still on spawn, blue darts spinning in place, 2 minutes after launch. Then they cry in chat about being left to die by the team. How much more of a bread crumb trail do u need, follow the other blue darts FFS!!! Players should have to do 100 drops in trial assaults before being allowed to purchase. Having 100, 200 or God forbid 300 tons of dead wieght is no fun for anybody IMHO.

I don't know what ELO you're playing at, but by my estimation it should be around 100... or less. I've never once seen a player doing that in an Assault, and I've been playing for a long while.

But, I have seen teams up and abandon what would have been a successful push, leaving Assaults out to dry. That's a pretty valid reason for "crying in chat" IMO, and it's the cause of a majority of Assaults "crying in chat" anyway.

A good assault pilot is truly scary and can be game changers.

To become a good assault pilot you need to start at the beginning and will likely be quite poor at piloting such mechs until you learn positioning, heat management, predicting where the action is and how to use your surrounding friendly mechs to the best advantage. Assault pilots also have been known to be abandoned by the rest of the team and left for easy pickings by enemy lights and LRM boats.

To learn how to pilot Assaults takes time, just like lights. Medium and Heavy mechs tend to be more forgiving in on the field piloting errors.

So, before dishing out poor assault mech pilots just realise that they may not have much experience and that slow assault mechs do require a skill set which is learned and earned, not normally natural.

And I am a mainly light pilot that have mastered only the Stalker and Highlander chassis and have full compliment of Awesomes, Atlas and Direwolves yet to be mastered.

But, apart from the above I will be out tonight taking full advantage of ordinary assault pilots in my Oxide and having a field day.

Cheers!
Eboli

I think I saw a new record set today by an Assault.

2 Damage......yes 2.

Mindblown.

Goodbye sweet wubhawk, switching to my crow for now, assault queue is the new heavy queue. At least I can prey on some clueless assault players for now.

These are the same bad players that flock to each weeks new mechs in the hopes they will one day find a mech that will carry them.

Sad but true.

This is what happens when a team literally runs away from a Dire Wolf and 2 enemy lights catch sight of it.

Ya know what will really blow your mind? An assault that gets tagged and dies without being able to fight back.

Or maybe they just want to play with their new toys?

Let's not make stupid judgmental accusations against people we don't know, yes? It would go a long way

If people put as much energy into teaching people how to play as they did bitching about how bad they are, just imagine...

I'd love an expert coach, truly, because, I hate to suck at this game. Alas, I have to teach myself how to best use my Atlas, and its trial and error. So either help me out, or learn to live with my 200 damage Atlas matches for now...

The way the matchmaking works is even if your ELO is super high you can end up with scrubs on your team. In fact, the higher your ELO is the more likely you will have clueless noobs on your team to carry.

We all get frustrated from time to time. In a team based competitive game where a good match can hinge on 11 other people holding their own and not doing silly things it get's the better of all of us and usually it spills out into the forums. Lord knows I've had my share of rants, especially being a solo pugger.

Don't feel alone in that. Mastering the Atlas when I got my AS7-S was a grueling desk flipping experience for me. I'll take a 200 dmg Atlas any day over a Timby or DW who decides they would just shoot through me to get an assist tag. I always highly recommend checking out the new player forums or making a post up there, even if your not a new player. there's some really fantastic information up there without the "Clan's OP, MM sucks, 15 straight 12-0 loss blues"

Go figure I would get a Woo-sah moment from the forums :P

I'm a predominantly medium and light pilot, that has forayed with some success into the land of Assault recently, so from my perspective on what would help out the team, here are some tips:

1) Don't shoot at targets with your AC/20s if they're 600m away.

2) Please upgrade your engine. I know you want MOAR DAKKA, but seriously. Half the Crabs I see are either too late to the fight, or ambushed while pulling up the rear. If you're going to PUG, accept that no one will rescue you, so upgrade the damn engine

3) Please no XLs. Just . . . please no. You're a giant wall of "SHOOT ME PLEASE". Dying early due to XL is rarely compensated by the extra Dakka, especially if you are new to assaults.

4) Take a second to actually aim. I know this sounds stupid but I've seen a lot of AC/40 volleys go flying wide due to panic. Ignore the flashing explosions and Bitching Betty and try to place your shots. If you have to tweak your mouse sensitivity, play around in the training grounds.

5) Don't try to stare down Dire Wolves, especially at range. Believe it or not, you're a bit more agile. Use that to dictate the engagement. All that armor that you have won't last long against a Starebear if he picks the fight.

6) At the same time, don't be afraid to eat a few hits if it gives your team a better position. Bully the enemy when and if you can and, Blake willing, your mediums and lights will take advantage of the distraction. If you're getting hammered though, it's still better to preserve your mech than throw it away for nothing.

7) Bottom line, you are a team asset. Playing an assault means you need a looot more situational awareness than anyone else. You're slower and tend to be committed once you pick a flank. Keep an eye on what your skirmishers are doing and look for opportunities to roll up a flank.

I know these sound obvious, but after seeing Crab after Crab die to a poor understanding of what seem to be common sense essentials, I feel like I should state them.
