It's a team game. When you bring a crappy robot you aren't just reducing your chances to do well, you're reducing your team's chances to win.

Or I'm leveling a mech. or I'm having fun.

Yes it's a team game, but that doesn't mean I have to be 100% try hard all day ery day just because you get slightly butthurt I took a mech you don't like because I like it.

Please try again.

Alot of people in this thread seem to forget there's two different levels to this game, the pugging casual and the 12 man competitive. Simple answer for people who don't understand why people want or like to min/max, to be competitive. It's in every game known to man, games are made on numbers. There will always be min/max.

ROFLed to this... cause:

- Tooo hot.
- Tooo diverse weapon range.
- Tooo silly to use casual SRM6 with Artemis.

This just gonna send you back to hangar in a blink of an eye. KGC role is to shake enemy screen and don't let him to answer. So it's or 4x5AC/UAC build or...

You play an Atlas for the same reason you play a light, for fun and to support your team. The good thing is, you play an Atlai correctly, you rake in a good amount more than any light would.

You don't drop in a light to get top damage and kills do you s0ns? No, you don't. Apply concept to Atlas, except getting top damage and kills is a good possibility.

Who cares if it's not 'the best' on a spreadsheet?

The reason you take an atlas is easy.

Because you LIKE the atlas.

JESUS CHRIST PEOPLE WHO CARES IF IT'S OPTIMAL... IF IT'S TOP TIER.

God I'm so tired of hearing people go on and on about how "This mech sucks because it's totally outclassed by X."

Who the flying fet cares?! Just use what you like, and quit complaining. I swear I come to these forums and all I see is bitchmoangroanwhinecryrage.... there's so little positivity here. And I mean, sure, part of that comes from all the BS PGI's pulled over 3 years... but good lord, there has to be a smidge of good cheer left in these forums right?

I totaly agree with that.
One coudn´t have sayed that better.

The Atlas is one of the worst assaults. Have a look at the 21 page long thread about buffs for the Atlas.

That is only bad pilots complaining cause they can't run an Atlas and rule the game. The Atlas is my Go to ride. When I want good numbers the Atlas gives em to me.

So the only reason to take a KCrab over an Atlas is personal synergy.

68 +17 armor from quirks, for 2 arms... total damage needed to undress that crab arms, 170.
what if that crab shoots you back for those 170 damage in the torso? oh lets see, you're dead and also probabily the team mate next to you. the crab got yellow structure warning on arms, your team 2 mechs less.

that's good.

KGC-0000 insane

this my latest build i'm going to extensively test. the first matches i had, were really promising. with CD modules it's like: get brawling range, SRM4 salvo while charging gauss, gauss off, srm4 salvo, srm4 salvo.

34 spread damage + 30ppfld alpha. low heat.

Atlas is amazing in a confined urban map or tunnels. Painful out in the open/long range matchs.

Not at all. The atlas is great at shielding and has tightly grouped brawl weapons, both great things in a confined space.

The king crab on the contrary has crappy shielding and wide arms hardpoints that need more space, which is bad for confined spaces, but great long range setups and superb hill poking energy HPs, which is great for open environments.

You want the atlas in a cave brawl and the KGC on alpine.

No doubt the KGC is overall much stronger though.

Necro'd thread is lulz. Atlas sucks and needs buffs. I never see Atlai in a match with good players.

I absolutely love the Atlas. My Atlas (all chassis) stats from current: Matches played overall 1080, WLR overall 2.70, KDR overall 2.05. While being mediocre by some standards, over 1000 matches with >2 wlr and kdr should prove I can handle the thing. Now my honest opinion./statswhoring

I do not recommend the Atlas for anyone who doesn't already own the chassis. You should avoid it. The other two 100 ton assault mechs are alot better for almost any circumstance. Atlas versus Dire, Atlas will lose. Atlas versus KC, Atlas will lose. You need to love the chassis to play it.

One of the reasons for this is that the meta is focused on 400-600 meters while the Atlas needs to get short range to be effective. Even then the Dire Wolf will dish out alot more DPS than the iconic Atlas. With the exception that Dire weapons at that range do not spread so god damn much. Still being slow enough to have very sluggish maneuvering.

Second reason is, that in pugs people do not push. Now for the Atlas to be effective you need to be close. If your team is not closing it buys the enemy team to situate themselves better for their optimal range while you need to just be patient. Now with the Nascar... Well that's problematic also. Often you are being left alone by faster mechs and without the ability to start defending yourself further than 270m you will end up dead.

Third and most annoying reason is that the Atlas is still one of the first focuses. It is so easy to kill from range if at a bad spot. As I said earlier it can not defend itself. The enemy will just stare at it and shoot it and probably laughing while doing it. Yes, it tanks alot but being a focus that is irrelevant.

Here's a drop from my recent stream that pretty much proves my points with some sloppy aiming; http://www.twitch.tv...karma/c/7014773 - Luckily Writhen was there to carry our team.

Then again having weekend fun brawls with three Atlases and a brawling team is one of the best things to spend a saturday while sipping beer. I love the chassis and love playing it, but the truth is it sucks.

That may be true... but the KCrab should be a great city brawler.

Did alot of duels D-DC vs. KC dual 20 3xSRM+A, Atlas lost every time.

Because the atlas can shield better.

Shield better than the King Crab? Maybe. But it shields worse than the Highlander.

The Highlander is generally considered a bad mech. But the fact is the Highlander-732B weighs 10 tons less than the Atlas and has WAY more CT armor and comparable armor everywhere else due to its insane armor quirks. Thats why the Atlas is worse than bad.

Heres why quirks have game balance totally screwed up...

Total Armor/Structure after quirks:

[Highlander-732B] - 90 tons
CT Armor: 145 + 58 structure = 203 total
ST Armor: 95 + 38 structure = 133 total
Arm Armor: 75 + 30 structure = 105 total
Leg Armor: 76 + 48 structure = 124 total

[Atlas-S or DDC] - 100 tons
CT Armor: 124 armor + 62 structure = 186 total
ST Armor: 84 + 53 structure = 137 total
Arm Armor: 68 + 43 structure = 111 total
Leg Armor: 84 + 42 structure = 126 total

The point is the Atlas need some major armor quirks to compete with other assaults like the Highlander that have already gotten major armor quirks. Because right now the comparative amounts of armor make NO sense.

Strip all the Atlas' weapon quirks (except maybe heat gen stuff) in favor of absolutely ridiculous toughness quirks. Double that internal structure! Boost armor by 25 points across the board! Increase forward speed and acceleration by 10%, and then decrease reverse speed by 20%.

The Atlas should be a nigh unstoppable killing machine.

Edit: Actually, best way to make the Atlas even scarier is to introduce melee.
