I don't play assaults much. I have a couple of Atlas' and now a King Crab.

The KIng Crab I received has 6! arm mounted ballistic hard points ... 2 energy, 2 missile and an AMS. One of the other KIng crabs appears to have 2 ballistic, 4 energy and 4 missile. The frontal profile on a King Crab looks to be a bit smaller than an Atlas ... hard to say for sure since it might be lower and wider. Otherwise they start off with basically the same armor and structure.

The KIng Crab would seem to have greater choice in loadouts and more devastating loadouts.

Unless the KIng Crab hit boxes somehow make it much more vulnerable than an Atlas ... why would I ever drive one of my Atlas' over the King Crab?

(Not a troll ... I am actually curious since the King Crab at least appears to be strictly better than an Atlas ... not sure yet how it compares to a Dire Wolf though I think the DW still has the edge since 6 CUAC5 and similar builds are hard to beat ... though the King Crab can do 2xGauss + 2xERPPC for lots of PPFLD fun ... if you can get the coordination correct)

you wouldn't ever take the atlas, unless you absolutely needed ecm on the ddc.

The Atlas is one of the worst assaults. Have a look at the 21 page long thread about buffs for the Atlas.

so you're gonna go for the 68 armor arms with an extra +17 arm quirk armor? all the while the torso weapons hit you?

XL engined KGC goes only 58kmph without tweaking... but XL'ed KGC is just an easy pray. Too wide to miss.

ECM.

other than that.. no reason really
But they shouldn't buff the atlas. They should nerf the dire wolf and the king crab. Assaults are big enough of a presence in the game as it is.

Go ahead pop my arms off I don't care, still packing 95.60 points of firepower.

why take an Atlas over a Stalker, or a Wubshee, Or a Wubmaster?

Atlas is just bad, its been bad before the King crab and it was bad before the Dashie

Well if you are standing in front of a Crab, trying to pop off it's arms you aren't all that bright.. Granted everything is subjective to builds.. But i was commenting on the Dual AC-20 builds everyone keeps bringing to matches.. Get at range, Pop off it's arms.. and the game is totally different..

See above... short range slow mech.. Good luck against a gauss, LL's, LRMS,, ect... They have their place, but hardly the be all and end all of mechs.. just like dires.. they have huge flaws that can be taken advantage off like most mechs..

The Atlas, at this point, is no longer relevant in the game.

Okay, sure, the DDC still is... because of the Magic Box ™, but that's it.

Atlas Advantages:
1) Better weapon convergence. All ballistics on one side, all missiles on the other.
2) *Maybe* slightly better hitboxes. This has yet to be determined, though, and the Atlas is not exactly the poster child for amazing hitboxes

King Crab Advantages
1) Extreme ballistics boating capability
2) High mounted weapon hardpoints (missiles and energy)
3) Rather short profile for a 100-ton mech.

The Crab's advantages are far more useful in nearly all cases. With some practice, the width of the King Crab and the negative effect that has on weapon convergence can be handled... but nothing can magically grant the Atlas a high-mounted weapon hardpoint or the ability to boat absurd amounts of ballistics.

In the end, unless you're using the ECM on the DDC, the Atlas really isn't worth it... the only way this conclusion would be countered is if the King Crab has serious hitbox or mobility issues, and I haven't see any strong evidence for either of those yet.

The reason you take an atlas is easy.

Because you LIKE the atlas.

JESUS CHRIST PEOPLE WHO CARES IF IT'S OPTIMAL... IF IT'S TOP TIER.

God I'm so tired of hearing people go on and on about how "This mech sucks because it's totally outclassed by X."

Who the flying fet cares?! Just use what you like, and quit complaining. I swear I come to these forums and all I see is bitchmoangroanwhinecryrage.... there's so little positivity here. And I mean, sure, part of that comes from all the BS PGI's pulled over 3 years... but good lord, there has to be a smidge of good cheer left in these forums right?

I loves my Atlases, all long mastered, do well in them and nice to pilot, along with having Founder and Loyalty S to help with C-Bill gain. Loyalty King Crab will also be stuck in basic until just before my birthday too...

UH, this? I mean, it's a ******* ATLAS. Do you see one on the field, and say to yourself: "oh, eh it's just an Atlas, I better look for something actually dangerous."

**** no you don't, because Atlas will wreck your day.

Lots of theory crafting going on the forums about how spreadsheet A shows Atlas is so bad. maybe it could use a refresh a little, mostly I think it needs more Armor to update it to the modern higher alpha standard we have. But it is hardly inferior to the point of no one playing it.

Some one above says it is the worst assault. At what?!! LRM boating? UBERSNIPERZ? c'mon man, learn to play. Surprise Atlas=best Atlas. All you got to do is watch the MW3 intro, or even the MW reboot trailer, to see how the mech works: Interception Successful.

It draws attention. It ALWAYS draws attention. Learn to leverage that. You SHOULD NOT be leading the charge, because everyone and their pen pal will see you from 2500M and shoot at you. You need to be the 2spooky4u Atlas, follow your team, and then EMERGE LIKE A CHAMPION at the right moment, and wreck the enemy that is obviously, completely caught off guard by your sudden emergence and scrambling to aim at you to return fire while simultaneously turning to flee from you horror inducing facewrecz smash powah.

LRM boat? Go home son. UBERSNIPEZ PPC arms? Boy, who told you to do that?

So eh, other assaults are other assaults, I like them too. IMA STILL STOMP YO FACE in my Atlas facesmashers.

I LOL sometimes at these threads too, I mean, not very long ago "we" decided the T-bolt was the most attrocious heavy there was. So they gave one variant some MPL buffs, and it became so ******* badass they had to nerf it.

So, PGI, PLZ BUFF. I mean, my horrible horrible T-bolts sure did need that buff, so obviously my terrible Atlas mechs need one too. Maybe, +25 armor on each ST? Sure, thats a good start. :P

Eventually no one will pay $ to get the king crab if they don't want to ... so I don't really see the point of this comment. The $ I spent to get the King Crab were long ago and I have already received more than my money's worth in my opinion.

I have all the atli, and love the mech, but as it stands the KC has just made them obsolete. Unless the atlas gets some serious armour buff quirks it is now useless. I must say I dont get it. They never gave the atlas many weapon slots, they limited the DW's torso twist, they did this so not to make these mechs op, they seemed to have thrown all this out of the window with the KC, giving it lots of weapons slots, and giving it a good torso twist. Why???

One word, Profit.

Game breakers sell better than average meches, and and there is only one way to get hands on these KGC before Christmas.
