I don't think the JJs are an issue or they wouldn't be if JJs on anything but a light were actually useful tactically. Same goes for a Summoner. If both this mechs jumped like a Firestarter for example, that would offset the lack of weapons tonnage and such.
Other than that, I fully agree with your assessment of the Nova. I would like to add "Scale" to the list as well though. It is way too big for a 50 ton mech, honestly about the height of a Cataphract but even wider. Drop the scale by 20% which in turn shrinks the hitboxes by 20% and the mech would do much better.
Also both the Nova and the Summoner really need some hard points added. For the Nova, I can't help feel adding a couple SRM6s at the expense of 4 or so ER MLs wouldn't make a hell of alot of difference. Same for the Summoner. I would kill for just 2 Energy hard points in the left or right torso. Oh and let me add the adder in here as well. Make a set of arms with 2 Energy Hardpoints each.
