Reading the forums and listening to all the comments, rants and occasional whining I just realized I am in for some epic gaming come Aug 7. Think about playing f2p with only serious mechwarrior fiends. Can't wait.

"Error # 312 - We're sorry, but MechWarrior Online servers are experiencing an unexpected heavy load. You will be placed in a queue and enter a match as soon as possible. Expected wait time is 312,892,908 seconds."

Sadly this may be the case. Launch days are notoriously high-demand and a company is left with a rock and hard place decisions of spending loads to try to meet anticipated initial demand (and then potentially left with a LOT of excess server later) or to just plan more around anticiapted regular demand (and then leaving a lot of frustrated folk complaining they can't play on LAUNCH DAY when you are getting some media attention and making a public face). SWTOR come to mind for the former, Diablo3 for the latter if you like examples.

Experience has thought me that Aug 7 will be hell on the servers, even more if they don't do stress tests before that date.

Oh well, with time and patience everything should be awesome

Ok, peeps, you know there will be issues the 1st day of launch. Can we all please mutually agree not to post "I can't get in, this game sux" or "I paid for veterean/elite/legendary and I can't get in, I want my money back" or "How is it possible the devs didn't expect this to happen?!" or any number of other things that you already KNOW are going to happen that will prevent people from getting on and playing.

For one, EVERYONE is going to need to download the game. Tens of thousands of people doing that all at once IS going cause issues. There will be hardware issues, there will be compatibility issues, there will be connection issues, there will be match joining issues. Accept that the devs did are doing their best and will work diligently to fix any and all problems that they have control over and BE PATIENT please.

Nothing worse than trying to avoid a bunch of whiny baby posts when things don't go their way because they feel entitled to play a FREE game.

Just wait till 3am on Aug 8th.

Much easier than stressing over a 3 hour download of game client.

I think that is one of the perks to allowing founders > open beta > launch .... with a gradual increase like this the actual launch date shouldn't be an issue. I've been in a similar game that went from open beta to actual release and it was a few days before I even realized it was "released" .... everyone had already been playing full out for a month, was just another weekly patch.

I foresee very similar events for MW:O .... (especially without community warfare .... what could really change from open beta to launch??)

I like the idea of allowing players to download the client, but not provide access codes until the day of launch.
That should reduce the server load, quineg?

You'd think that developers would learn from the mistakes of so many games that have had problems with servers on launch day. I'm sure it's no easy task to keep up with the demands of thousands of players trying to play at the same time, but you'd think they'd come up with someway to handle it.

That's probably going to happen, but I'm pretty sure they would use different servers for the two functions if they had the capability. Regardless, it's going to be a cluster-muck when thousands of players try to connect at the same time.

Considering the capabilities of people working in information systems today, I think it's safe to assume they try damn hard to and still haven't found a perfect solution.

There is none.Servers simply aren't mean't for such loads and these only happen at launch, after that its smooth sailing anyway.

From the way I've read everything, open beta will roll into release ... everyone will have downloaded the client and been playing for a few weeks to a month already
