If this feature isn't in the game yet due to the man hours required to implement it needs to be patched in later, or added in an expansion. With games out on the market such as Battlefield 3 where you can mow down trees, blow the sides off buildings and destroy stationary vehicles the knowledge and expertise needed to do it is out there.

The videos show PPC's being shot through trees without damage or collision. I wasn't able to find it mentioned on the boards so I'm not sure that's a priority feature at this point but would improve the game tenfold if it was. This isn't just for the visual effect but has some strategic gameplay value.

Can't find where I saw it, but I saw an official response saying that the trees and small building would be destructible, but not everything.

The devs have confirmed that trees and presumably other small objects will be destructible.

Don't expect large buildings to be destructible, however.

Thanks. I tried to search the forum for it but couldn't find any information. I can sleep now knowing that it will be added at some point!

Buildings will probably be used as barriers to drive maps a certain way so I don't expect all to be destructible... maybe some broken windows and smoke stains.

Uh yeah let me kick cars let me kick cars

Hope you can sooner or later just walk thruogh buildings like in the boardgame, or at least with enough damage collapse the building granted its a pile of ruble afterwards but a pile with less height....

I was hoping to be able to blow up cars to cause splash damage to nearby mechs.

I would LOVE a Red Faction style destructible landscape... but yeah, nobody else ever does.

The potential for strategic destruction of terrain Is very interesting the idea of collapsing bridges buildings etc.. Is very entertaining but probably very hard for devs to balance there are so many variables to consider

I'd want to see much destroyable stuff, it's one of the things that make BF3 amazing.

Balance, Schmalance. You have just as good a chance to drop a bridge on my head as I have a chance to drop a skyscraper on yours.

I emphatically vote for fully destructible terrain!!!

This adds realism to the game and therefore immersion. You want the players immersed don't you?

A Gauss Rifle slug traveling at a fraction of C completely penetrates a building in Frozen City with a blinding blue flash AND THEN hits a Mech hiding behind it. A shower of debris rains to the street as the multi-ton behemoth shudders from the surprise impact.

On Forest Map, jets of plasma incinerate trees in one burst leaving nothing but charred stumps.
The potential for a forest fire increases with every shot of white hot energy.
Until finally overheating Mechs trudge through the smoke and flames knocking burning trees aside as they advance on the enemy base.
It would be glorious.
(Would forest fires would be a frame rate killer? Far Cry 2 had fires.)

A barn shatters in an explosion of debris as a speeding light Mech runs through it.
Fences are ripped apart as it dashes away.
Lasers burn swaths swathes of destruction chasing it though the grassy fields.

Rivers flash in gouts of steam as the scintillating beams play across their surface.
Auto cannons gouge huge holes in the earth, splinter trees, and devastate a cityscape with their murderous fire. Cars are mangled as a huge war machine steps...

...I better stop now.

CryEngine can do it. The Devs can do it.

Ah yes,

anything that is destructable in the boardgame would be nice to make it destructable here. And Fires were always a great thing to produce smoke and targeting interference ;)

Some additional eye candy would be nice: kicking Cars for example

nothing beats toppling a small skyscraper :P prefereably on the enemy mech.

Edit:
I forgot Industry, Gas Tanks or a Gas Station that you might blow up to damage a Mech standing there

It would be amazing for the map to actually get decimated from our wars like Red Faction :D But a completley destructive enviroment (I know Cryengine allows it partly) may be hard to fully implement, or maybe more intensive perhaps making the recommended requirements rise. (Im no expert so forgive me if im wrong)

One idea I do love though which was mentioned in another thread, is to implement smaller things like causing fires in forests. Obscuring vision and restricting your heat vision mode and causing your heat to rise quicker if you are caught in it, like a counter of what the Ice map does. I think that'd be one step closer to a fully desctructible enviroment. And lets be honest, it'd be pretty damn cool too haha.

World of tanks does it very good too. Cars, trees and smaller buildings can be destroyed. Larger buildings just get a damaged look.
Destructible environment in general adds a lot of realism, life and fun to a game. It would also be a cool advantage of lighter mechs if they could walk on buildings where heavier mechs would break into. Or bridges only capable of carring a set amount of weight before collapsing which could be scaled down by damage the bridge already got.

Fully destructible would be awesome, but would require a lot of effort by the Devs. Hopefully it's on the cards at some point though!

Sadly they would have to use a whole new engine in order to accomplish this. The Frostbite engine being used by Battlefield 3 has the destructible environment and it is about the only one, it was built around that and no others as far as I know have implemented such a system yet. Most other FPS games have areas that can be destroyed but they are built into the game for just those areas. The rest of the map is completely static.

Battlefield 3 has set a new standard and it will take a while for others to catch up.
As much as I would like to see it. The Cry Engine is just not capable of what you are asking for yet.

So Does that mean there will never be an Destructible World in MWO? Gosh I hope not, the expectation of players today due to the popularity of BF3 almost demands it for a game like this.....<sigh>

For starters it might be interesting to partially destroy structures as seen in the MW5 trailer. It was pretty impressive to see chunks getting blown out of the corner of buildings (Warhammer seeking cover from Jenner SRMs and Atlas AC20). Small steps basically.
