I think the IS should really only ever get their psudo-clan tech. Like Light Fusion engines, and their versions of the ER lasers.
Just helps keep the lines firmly drawn between clan tech and IS tech. when they start blending you end up with some really broken builds.

Especially if you combine certain IS future exclusives like XL Gyros and stuff with the classic Clan base goodies. The Wulfen light mech comes to mind.

Year: 3137
30 tons
XXL300 engine (Clan): Top speed of 178.2 kph after speed tweak
XL Gyro (IS)
Stealth Armor maxed out (IS)
Endo Steel (Clan)
Hardwired ECM (Clan)
10 tons of pod space

Its one and only weakness is that most of its variants have fairly bleh hardpoints. The Prime for example has only 1 ballistic and 1 missile...lol. Makes the Summoner Prime's hardpoints look like a god. Several variants carry only a single energy hardpoint with nothing else.

The E and H variants however would kick ass, especially if combined with the right arm of the Prime or D. Total of either 5E + 1M, 3E + 3M, or 4E + 2M, if we ignore the JJ pods.

-------------------

The moral of the story is...mixtech be bad for balance.

Sure, by all means. PGI allow the surats to have access to some Clan tech...four months after giving us our IIC variants.

As much as I hate to support IS getting Clan tech, as one of those people that started playing battletech as the original books were released, clan tech started to appear on IS mechs as soon as techs could cobble together the tech needed to attach it to IS mechs. Simply as soon as they got the 1st bits of salvage off the battle fields. Also the clan had access to almost all IS mechs and tech as this is what they took with them on them when they departed the IS. By the books, Wolfs Dragoons while having taken "older model" mechs (IS mechs) with them just shows that some of these IS designs were still included as active mechs in the clans so should be available for use by the clans (with updated weapons and other equipment of course). So I have to agree that Clan weapons should be available to IS players (at very high prices due to scarcity), IS chassis should be available to clan players as well with much cheaper upgrades. anyway, just my opinion and a rambling one at that.

Clearly the Clans would never allow piloting IS mechs

You mean 2c mechs different designs. With Clan weaponry.

The Clans fielded many standard IS chassis; those of us that actually know what we are talking about know the difference between 2C and regular (IS) mechs. The Clans used both in addition to their omnimechs.

Frankly the Clan factions should already be allowed to drop IS mechs (running IS tech obviously) if they want; however, that might be a nice option for when the IS factions get Clan mechs.

The idea that the IS factions could take a single Clan mech is very interesting and worth further consideration. Perhaps including the discussed weight penalty (eg MadCat counts as 80 tons) - this could be combined with Clan factions being able to take an IS mech at a weight advantage (eg Orion counts as 70 tons). That would certainly switch up some drop decks!

This would go a long way in solving the issue of not being able to properly benefit from all owned mechs.

Actually they did. Mechs they took with them as well as ones they produced. Almost always upgraded, relegated to solahma units ("older" retired pilots, ie those in their 30"s if I remember correctly).
I'd love to see some IIC mechs make their way into MWO. I'd be up for a Hunchback IIC with 2 UAC20s lol.

FYI, the .30-06 was a US infantry rifle calibre, not an AC. :)

personally im hoping to see the introduction of unlimited cross-tech, as far as weapons, and the release of cross-tech mechs, like the Madcat 2C 95 tonner, maybe the Marauder 2C, and a whole list of others. Im afraid we are a long way away from mechs like the Stone Rhino and Behemoth. if PGI had 100 employees, we might see some serious stuff, real quick. or if they opened up their code to private parties, like MW4 did, we would have over 100 mechs and hundreds of new weapons, fairly quickly. thats not going to happen any time soon.

I'm hoping that the factions never get mixed. You choose Clan, you run Clan. You choose Spheroid, you run Spheroid.

Otherwise, what's the point of the damn factions in the first place?

You choose Clan and want to run Spheroid? Drop in Public queue, not CW.
You choose Spheroid and want to run Clan? Drop in Public queue, not CW.

I'm also hoping they don't allow mixed-tech 'Mechs. It further reinforces the gunbag mentality, which is already far too prevalent with Spheroid super-customization.

In other words, the differences between the factions need to stay. Period. Full stop. End of line.

I hope not anytime soon. I don't care too much for the lore of Battletech, but I do like each team having Mechs from the same faction. It makes me feel like I'm actually fighting as part of a faction against a different faction. I won't see the same Mech on the enemy team as I do on my team (unless I'm fighting Clan vs Clan of course).

I like being able to simply took at the Mechs on the other team and know they are my enemy just based on that. It's no longer just the red team vs the blue team. It kinda, in some small way, makes the game feel like just a little bit more than a deathmatch and I kinda like it.

Exactly why i said a limited number of [Clan] Mechs per drop

Still too many to make any sense. Waaaaaaay down the line, as a reward for a CW tourney, or as a very small chance of salvage, sure. But the average person shouldn't be able to mix tech any time soon.

What I think would be a good compromise would be to allow you to somehow salvage a mech if you are the one who killed it. Maybe you have to kill 10 direwolves to get a fully functional direwolf. But, you only get 1. If you lose it, it's gone.

Some good opinions but i really think this is something that needs to be looked at. Its a way to get big merc units and clans to be able to play together with the mechs they want. I'm sure there are a bunch of guys loyal to Davion that don't own any clan mechs, but maybe some members of their merc unit do. So lets say then the only option is for that unit to join Davion so every one of its members can then participate in CW. But then you are basically penalizing the guys that supported MWO by shelling out $300+ for all those fancy clan mechs and telling them they can only use them if A. They leave their current unit of friends who they have been playing MWO with for 2 years and join a clan group of strangers or B. Go play in Pub Queue which has no rewards or any benefits of playing besides being able to use the mechs you paid for.

Or allow a guy an Alias where he can play under the same account but have 2 different factions. But that seems like the easy fix and i'm sure their is a silly reason it wont work.

When the Clans get IS Ballistics and standard PPCs.

....which will probably be never.

I've suggested this possibility a few times. It'd require two things, R&R and locking the mech to CW (as no one would like to have someone take their CW-developed Clan-tech-totting IS mech to fight with on regular matches where the people who never played CW won't have any way of competing).

Sadly I strongly suspect it won't be done in this game.

You guys need to realize that you'd have to allow the clans to take IS mechs as well if this were to happen. Given that, and that maybe you were somehow limited to one off-faction mech per team (i.e. one IS mech out of the 48 mechs in a 12-man clan dropdeck), I could live with it.

But you can't say it's only for IS. Clans and IS both have serious advantages, the most obvious is the clans have timberwolves and the IS has basically every light mech ever. But given that the factions are balanced, you'd have to seriously restrict cross tech to prevent a team from just covering all their weaknesses with mechs from the other faction.
