If by some chance this was to even make it to MWO, what variant would it be? There are so many here on sarma!

Sort of. Robotech was the original name for BattleTech (essentially 1st edition). Second edition saw the name changed to BattleTech. The copyright issue comes from older anime series which is owned by the studios and distributed in the United States by Harmony Gold (who are the ones that make a big f-in deal of it all).

You have been misinformed.

1st edition of battletech was called "battle droids". Robotech was an anime series which FASA licensed the artwork for from the original japanese creators. That same company also licensed the series to Harmony Gold to show an english dubbed version of the show in the US. The exact wording of that contract meant that FASA could no longer use the artwork.

wrong, robotech is a combination of a few different mecha animes (macross and a couple others). battletech was originally called battledroids but had to change names because of George Lucas had already copyrighted the term "droid".

Unfortunately, only the Jenner hasn't been put on the unseen list. The status of the other 7 is uncertain (I'm still trying to find that official Catalyst post on the BattleTech forums).

2. phoenix hawk
3. shadow hawk
4. rifleman
5. warhammer
6. marauder
7. battlemaster

I know this, the project phoenix rebuilds are hideous.

nearly ALL of the original art is terrible(at least the art I've seen on sarna)... I am SO glad that MWO's art guy is so good at redesigns

i think not. ;)

all robotech mechs are already copyrighted if i'm not mistaken.

that includes the battlemaster (it's a robotech design)

The Battlemaster is not a Robotech design, but it was one of the designs FASA originally licensed from Japanese anime creators, and in the wake of the Harmony Gold fiasco, all designs that weren't produced in house were declared "unseen," just to be on the safe side.

And FWIW, none of the Macross designs (not Robotech, Macross. Please support the original producers and get the originals in the original Japanese, not the Macekred Robotech version) are copyrighted by Harmony Gold. FASA legally licensed those designs from original Japanese Macross producers, but Harmony Gold, who licensed the anime rights in the United States, decided to file a nuisance lawsuit, which is what caused many classic Battlemechs to become "unseen" rather than lose a lot of money fighting it in court. Harmony Gold is also the reason why we'll never see any of the other Macross series in the United States.

I'd love to see M$ revisit HG with a pipe wrench to their kneecaps. All HG does these day is Sue people if they even get a whiff of potential.
Then again.. M$ supposedly via rumors have intentions to bring out more Mech games or something similar, and if HG decides to show up.. M$ has the better lawyers...

I want my Rifleman. Drop the ammo dependancy and replace it with a All energy mix (Or at the very least ER PPC's in the arms) and oh baby. I'm in heaven.

(If I'm wrong, Please, Please, lemme know and I'll edit/revise this accordingly.)
