I would love quads.

But here's the thing.
It'd be equal to, or greater work than it took to implement the Clans.
For 1-2 mechs in the current timeline.
I completely understand why they aren't, and why it's not worth the effort.

Melee though.
We should have melee.

TO be fair, Russ said "absolutely not" to a lot of things, yet we still got 3PV. NEVER SAY NEVER, NEVER SAY DIE! :D

but most of those were things nobody wanted anyhow-

Russ said Quads would never happen a very long time ago. Because the amount of programming for such a small number of mechs doesn't make sense, and I agree. But if enough were sold, perhaps they would relent. After all, we got Urbie made, didn't we?

For quads I would preorder ALL THE THINGS!

I've lost hope for them (or melee combat) in MWO looooong time ago.

Now i'm hoping for them to be in the Harebrained Schemes' Battletech.

eh, screw quads but even some rudimentary melee would be neat, quite a few mechs are helpless without ammo or their main weapon

One thing I could say about including Quads would be the absolute need to bring back inverse kinematics..It would look ridiculous without it!

Well, to be honest, the mechs look ridiculous without it already.

Just another stupid decision PGI has done during the development of the game.
I really, can't think of another game that got DOWNGRADED as much as MWO from how it was during Beta.

This is completely off topic.

A long time ago I post a little text about the Overkill mech and a freeborn man called Odanan. Well, I'm actually trying to write a Battletech book and I felt, since I lost my creative momentum, that showing some excerpts to you guys would help me to 1) fix the rough edges (there should be many); 2) dive again into this universe and hope I return to writing.

I wrote about 30 pages, but they are all fragmented. The later passages, when "Nan" is captured by the Clan Jade Falcon are more sequential, so I will start with them.

So, here it the very start of the Part III of the book:

-------

Star Commander Florian looked at the body on the table. From his stomach all way down, there was a dark mess of blood and other fluids. It stunk. The dead man’s face was uncannily similar with his own. They were not twin brothers, that notion would be repulsive for the Clansman: they shared the same genes because they were sibs.

Florian, Auron and Chiara were from the same Binetti-Thastus sibko. The tests a youngster member of the Clans had to endure to be accepted into the Warrior Caste were brutal, especially in the Clan Jade Falcon. Most cadets “flushed out”, being redirected for another castes or even perished during the training. So when three members of the same sibko passed the Trial of Position, it was something extraordinary.

The three of them had green eyes, but while Auron had a dark brown mop, Florian and Chiara shared the same gold-blond hair. Florian always considered himself more beautiful than Auron, even before his sib broke his nose fighting hand-to-hand an elemental. Now that was a fight, about five years ago. Auron was younger and smaller, and he was beaten so hard that one could think he would not recover. He felt many times, but didn't stay down, and in the end, he managed to choke his tired foe to unconsciousness.

Auron Thastus, one of the most promising warriors of the Clan Jade Falcon bled to death because of a shrapnel in his belly. The second missile volley the Spheroid fired found a weak spot in the armored cockpit glass of his mech. Maybe Auron was dead even before his Timber Wolf hit the ground. Or maybe he had the time to see and smell his intestine contents.

The Clansman stared one last time at the man who overshadowed him since their birth. The corpse's face still had some of the strong determination that made him push harder and achieve greater than the others. "Well, look what you achieved now, sib", thought Florian.

***

Walking down the corridor, he heard Chiara shouting and found his remaining three star members at the interrogation room with the live prisoner. Donagh and Nicolaas were holding the Spheroid upright while Chiara punched him.

“Point Commander Chiara, what do you think you are doing?” his words felt like cold water over the hotheaded blond woman.

“Questioning the prisoner.” She replied, still angry but holding her defiance.

“I suppose our guest will not be able to answer anything while he is being beaten, quiaff? Is this the way you treat a captured warrior?”

“Warrior!? This freebirth killed Auron by using treachery. He is scum!”

Florian twisted his month at the sound of her cursing. This was so undignifying, he thought. He slowly approached, looking into her eyes. “Listen here, Chiara. This man defeated Auron Thestus in honorable single combat piloting a more primitive mech. There was no subterfuge involved: it was Auron who underestimated his prey. You better stop right now because this man might still serve our Clan.”

The woman stared at him unbelieving. “You are not considering claiming this stravag as your bondsman…”
But Florian interrupted her: “As a matter of fact, I do. It was me who took him down, so if any of you touch again my bondsman, I will take that personally, do you understand?”

Nicolaas and Donagh reluctantly dropped the prisoner and answered “aff”. Chiara just stormed out of the room bumping his shoulder and was soon followed by the other two Clansman. Florian couldn’t avoid to think how desirable she was when angry.

He shrugged off the lustful thoughts about Chiara and helped the prisoner to the chair. “So much for a reception committee, quiaff?” The prisoner looked apathetic, still with dried blood on his face and hair. Florian continued. “Odanan, right? Before he passed away, your compatriot asked us to give you a message. ‘Tell Odanan to say my family I regained my honor’. Something like that. He was too wounded and burned for us to save him.”

He saw some commotion in the prisoner’s face. “Now if you excuse me, I need to write some reports. I will send someone to take care of you.”

He was leaving when he heard the prisoner timidly saying “Thank you”.

As he was out of the room, Florian couldn’t hold a grim. He whispered to himself: “No, freebirth. I thank you.”

Nice excerpt Odanan. I think it gets a pass as the Timber Wolf was mentioned.

MWO still needs more HBK-4N and Viper.

Why has the Black Knight revealed in Instagram an UAC in the arm? All variants in the Resistance II page are all-energy.

(Is this variant the Blood Bound promised extra reward?)

It would need some general proofreading (e.g. it should be "...Florian couldn’t hold a grin...", "...Tell Odanan to tell my family {that} I regained my honor...", and so on), but it otherwise looks good.

Thank you. I really need this proofreading. (and it's clear I need someone else to do it)

Oh, proofreading or editing of a story should always be done by someone other than the author himself for the simple reason that it's much easier for someone else to spot your mistakes than it is for the one who wrote it originally. For some reason one becomes sort of blind to ones own mistakes, probably because you know how it should look in your head, and therefore you don't read your own text as carefully as you would someone elses.

So get someone to act as Your editor if you can. It will make it much easier to correct mistakes.

I want to see a Kodiak...just because I want to see Alex Iglesias's take on that machine. (And because we're unlikely to ever see a Templar in a Battletech/Mechwarrior game anytime soon.)

In the meantime, waiting on the Harebrained Schemes Battletech, go go!

@Odanan

It's a great little excerpt, shows how not all clanners can keep their cool even in the face of honorable combat. Besides the obvious (and don't take that as an insult, all writer's rough drafts are horrible messes usually,) editing mistakes, things are laid out pretty well.

What I usually do, if I like a section of what I've written anyway, is go back over a paragraph and add details or modify how I might say or arrange things after I read a small bit. I don't generally like self editing, (it's far more fun to just keep writing and writing as I pour words onto the page once I get going,) but it can help what I write be a tad more descriptive before I get any farther and sometimes helps me decide on different story ideas I wasn't sure of or even come up with new ones.

I'm not used to write longer stuff, so I'm really struggling to give body and weight to the small pieces that come out. I try to re-read and include more details, but I see these are lacking many times... Besides, my English is mostly self-learned, so there are lots of holes in how I write.

I was thinking in search for some different medium, like visual novel, but that would need to involve more people.

You could always pair with someone who is more fluent in English OR write it however is most comfortable and ask someone for help translate it?

Graphic novels would be pretty cool, not something really done with Battletech/Mechwarrior.

Sure, it would be easier for me to write in Portuguese, but someone would have all the trouble to translate to English.

Not graphic novel, visual novel. I actually created a whole game system for the combats.

Returning to topic, I guess there will be a new IS pack announced in 1 or 2 months.
The big question is: what mechs will show up?

We have 3 approaches:

#1- more mechs from the Battletech classic box or mechs very common for their houses (ex: Resistance I);
#2- newer iconic mechs, with lots of PGI's custom variants (ex: Resistance II);
#3- the remaining Unseen (ex: Project Phoenix).

#1 - Resistance III
- light: Javelin, or Mongoose
- medium: Vulcan, Assassin, Sentinel, Dervish, or Clint
- heavy: Lancelot, Champion, Merlin, or Ostroc
- assault: Charger, Crockett, or Cyclops

#2 - Resistance III
- light: Flea
- medium: Bushwacker
- heavy: Exterminator, War Dog, or Bandersnatch,
- assault: Devastator, Nightstar, or Pillager

#3 - Project Phoenix II
- Tier 1: Wasp and Stinger
- Tier 2: Valkyrie and Phoenix Hawk
- Tier 3: Rifleman and Crusader
- Tier 4: Archer and Warhammer
- Tier 5: Marauder and Longbow
