Pretty much this, yes. The Rapier, for example, was apparently primarily a civilian weapon than a military weapon during its heyday, used by unarmored or lighhtly armored civvies rather than as a battlefield weapon (where polearm formations and the like would be more likely what you would face).

That said, swords are cool. Movies and stories have conditioned us to think swords are awesome since an early age, which is why we all think they're awesome even if they weren't the all purpose superior in every way to every other weapon Hollywood and the like would often like us to believe. They're cool. They look cool. Our inner nerd kid goes "AWESOME!" when we see a nifty looking swordfight on the screen. This is pretty much why I own a parrying dagger, a shortsword, a rapier and a hand-and-a-half sword (oh, and a traditional longbow) myself, because my inner nerd kid went "COOOOOOL!" when I saw them and my older, more sensible real-age-nerd self went "Yeah, pretty cool, and I'm old enough that I can afford them now if I want to. I'm buying it!" Posted Image

That said, _this_ beautiful sidesword is a piece I'd really like to get my hands on and hang on my wall next to my rapier and parrying dagger! Posted Image

Beautiful sidesword! Added to my wish list!

(I got some swords here myself)

As I predicted, it looks the next Clan medium omnimech* will be announced only in the next townhall (May 27th?).

Black Lanner!

With all this recent talk of swords, perhaps we can get some momentum back into the "Fencers in MWO" thread...? Posted Image

It'll probably be the Blanner but I hopefully it's the Huntsman!

This. If the Black Lanner is the Timber Wolf of Clan mediums, the Hunstman is closer to the Night Gyr. Big payload and the hardpoints to work with it.

But it's not....

The Storm Crow is the Timber Wolf of Clan mediums, apex Mech, Goldy Locks engine size, Endo+FF decent hit boxes, good weapon options and the tonnage to use them effectively.

The Black Lanner has more in common with the Linebacker than it does the Timber Wolf.... Engine size is outside of the Goldy Locks zone, tons of weapon options, but not enough tonnage to use them effectively, questionable hit boxes and unfavourable TRO art work....

The Black Lanner is more like the Mist Lynx of the mediums. It's a bad robot.

I'd say the Black Lanner is more appropriate, as it CAN take non-negligible weapon loadouts...it's just low for what you COULD take on that tonnage with another robot.

Light a Light mech (with better cooling)
I'll laugh at the 147 Kph 55 tonner, though. Might be decent at getting headshots (it can mount 6 SPLs with 3-5 Flamers, MASC and a couple heatsinks)

Not a great robot, no, but shouldn't be Terribad. Perhaps a tad lulzy

Yes, Storm Crow and T-Wolf are the apex mechs, both in MWO and TT...

About the art and hitboxes of the Black Lanner, we don't know yet how they will be. The mech has potential of looking terrible or extremely sexy. One thing we know: Alex Iglesias can do miracles.

BTW, I guess the mech can do OK in the game, and maybe specially well in the Scout mode.

I'm just expecting it to be used as another SPL boat as it lacks the tonnage to really do anything else... I guess what I want to see is stronger viability outside of one or two builds for one Mech... the Huntsman, Pouncer and Coyotl can all do that with the same or more available pod space with out sacrificing armour.

Indeed!

This will be the first build I will try*:
3x ER ML + 6x ER SL, ECM, 9 tons of armor (near max), 5 extra DHS (all inside the engine).

*depending on the hero and the looks, it will be the C-Bills version or not.

Only in a couple of years, I guess.

But the Pillager is an amazing mech. PGI can't miss it.

I was looking through the MUL that showed my beloved Nightstar is addable & I found ComStar had the Pillager pre invasion but then it shows them not having it during the invasion era, which is a touch strange.

But come & assuage your grief. The Nightstar is available & would be pure epicness. http://mwomercs.com/...ic-new-artwork/

Any chance that we could see this mech in the game?

I'd imagine we'll see the Marauder II eventually, but I wouldn't really expect it to show up before the remaining Unseen (or at least the more popular/well known ones like the Crusader, Wasp, Stinger and Valkyrie, aka the Macross Veritech Unseen) seeing as we already have the original 75 ton Marauder in the game.

I would expect the Marauder IIC to be released first...

That would be one of the few Clan mechs I would pay real money for. I am not a huge Assault fan, but I am a huge Marauder fan (thanks to Alex's redo of the chassis).

+1. Not really interested in IIC mech, but this one would be awesome. An 85 tons Marauder with Clan tech, simply a beast :)
