Looks like they might not do a mech while they're trying to push the MW5 preorder bonuses. Reasonable marketing strategy, since people won't likely spend on both the preorder AND a new mech pack at the same time. After all, they extended the Warhammer IIC a month due to similar circumstances, and the preorder bonuses run to exactly the end of the month.

I do agree that it's unlikely for this month to get a new mech pack announcement, but I think those specific reasons you listed have some flaws in them:

A. Never underestimate the whale-iness of this community. I'm willing to bet you dollars to donuts that a decent number of people would be willing to buy it all.

B. There are people who may be skeptical of MW5 but still willing to buy stuff in MWO. Not everyone buys for both games, but there is most admittedly a lot of overlap in the target demographics.

C. The new mech could receive its own extended early adopter's deadline like the Whammer IIC so that people have more time to scrounge for the money needed.

There's a reason I said "won't likely spend". I don't disagree with any of those flaws. However, presuming there is no April mech, they probably looked at what happend with the Warhammer IIC and decided it'd just be easier to push one promotion. I have no doubt there's plenty of people who'd jump for both, but PGI might have decided it wasn't enough to push their luck.

Regardless, it's a bit sad there's likely no April mech at this point.

On the other hand, interesting video that mentions MW5 allowing modders to create their own "blueprints" (aka procedurally guided rulesets) for missions in MW5. It's only about 5 seconds in the clip, but it's there; and that's pretty exciting news for helping confirm the degree of MW5 mod support.

Its possible they punted April. We can only hope there will be a multi-mech pack next month or something.

Wasp/Stinger combo pack in the works, maybe? One can hope, with MW5 so close to release.

The Dervish pre-order goes till the end of the month.
I have to admit I have not paid enough attention to the earlier pre-orders, but did they overlap at all or did one finish before there was a new announcement?

Except I believe both Gas Guzzler and myself were referring to what we might get in May . . . not April. At least I know that's what I was referring to.

Not going to lie . . . I never noticed it went until the end of this month. No, they normally don't overlap. The Warhammer IIC preorder got extended because of a severe miscommunication (an honest mistake, but a BIG one) between MW5 preorder promo and the Warhammer IIC preorder, which caused an overlap in preorder bonus between the Warhammer IIC, Corsair and MW5 preorder announcement (the later two were already slated to overlap due to MechCon).

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dervish launches in June. Unless PGI is about to announce something BIG to go with the MW5 launch (I'd still love to see the "Project Phoenix II" pack, or whatever PGI wants to call it, discussed back here: https://mwomercs.com...27#entry6232427 ), they'll actually run out of mechs on preorder. Considering the relative isolation of the art department (namely the mech team) between the two titles, that just seems out of place for PGI to do.

Maybe they truly are that "all hands on deck" to get MW5 launched on time . . . but again . . . it just doesn't seem to fit. The mech art team has to be doing something; and they're pretty much always ahead by 2-3 months.

On the one fist, we have House Steiner.

On the other? House Bishop Steiner.

The special variants for MW5 buyers will end by 30/april, so I guess we will have a new mech after that.

Firemoth (or Fire Falcon) is my bet.

I skimmed through the last 4 or 5 pages and saw a number of light and medium clan mechs suggested/theory crafted but I don't recall seeing the Pouncer. Is there a reason that people don't consider it more seriously?

For the most part it's just a mech that goes under the radar because of being kinda sorta obscure and not well known.

Gameplay wise it's basically a super saiyan Adder. All of our current 40-ton mechs are fast squirrels so I think a slower "trooper" would be a logical choice for that tonnage bracket.

That's why I am confused. It seems like such a clear choice but it is ignored for less functional options that don't bring nearly as much to the table.

The main issue I see is that you'd need heavy quirking to make it viable and I don't see PGI releasing a new mech and have it coming out the door with a lot of quirks.

What kind of quirking are thinking? New mechs are coming out with quirks every month so I don't really see how that would detract from its consideration, unless you know of some truly crippling attributes of the Pouncer that have not been brought forward yet.

It really wouldn't need any many quirking than the Adder that it's based on (though admittedly the Adder itself could use more than what it has now). With its superior hardpoints and JJs it probably wouldn't even need as much as the Adder does.

And the most important information, the speed: 97.2 km/h. So, a smaller and slightly faster Nova? Not bad at all.

Many are REALLYbad. However, that is the best rendering of an Avatar, ever.

Good work!

a lot depends on geometry. But adding some doesn't mean adding all. though in theory, unless MWO stops adding mechs, eventually, it has to, anyhow.

But it's true ideally they'd have to modify them to make a ton use LFEs or something, as Avatar, Sunder, etc are death traps with pin point aiming. (Darn shame that folks are so against the various imperfect aim mechanics used by pretty much literally every other FPS, as that might have obviated the need for a lot of the lame mechanics we have had to implement).

Or really cheat and give em Clan XLs. IDK. Is it bad I want a Sunder and BJ-O anyhow? (BJ-O might have small enough STs to be somewhat viable, dunno)
