So... Griffin or Wolverine as candidates for the next Medium 'Mech? :rolleyes:

the question is WHY?

Aside from nostalgia, that is?

Wow look!!!!! a 2 Hardpoint Medium mech!! And..... a less versatile Shadowhawk!!!!

I like the Unseen as much as the next classic Btech junkie, but they really bring NOTHING to the table. The Dervish, if we need a 55 toneer has the same speed and jump capability, and far superior hardpoints.

Even better would be the Assassin or Vulcan adding some more speed to the middle bracket.

Given the name and coloring, and as yet without the e-mail announcement that usually includes such information, I would guess that the DS might be supposed to be the 'Mech piloted by either Hans Vordel (from the bodyguard lance to the command lance from Wolf's Dragoons - who also fought in the Battle of Misery, after the Dragoons were betrayed by the Draconis Combine) or Arden Sortek (from the FedSuns, the current Prince's Champion, and arguably the most famous Victor pilot).

Thx, Strum!

Hopefully not ...
Nothing against the Phoenix-Mechs, but some of the unseen/reseen are just crap.

Griffin = sucks;
Wolverine = uncreative;
Kintaro, Dervish = forget about them, we have the Shadow Hawk;
Vulcan = slower jumping Cicada;
Assassin = my bet for next Medium;
More Unseen/Reseen? = I suppose not in the near future. All the good non-Macross mechs are already in the Phoenix package.

For those saying the Shadow Hawk makes other 55 tonners redundant, remember all the common variants have very poor stock jumping movement. The Shadow Hawk variants are not going to have better hard points AND better max jump.

Only one single 55 ton mech. We already have three 50 and 65 ton mechs. There is no reason to forget these two mechs.

Yes, Russ stated as much in his NGNG interview. Podcast 79 I think.

(If they ever FIX JJs so you need more than one to get around (and the terrain stuff to stop totally bogging jumpers down) I would agree)
Which is why we need... duh duh duhduh!!!!!

the Whirling DERVISH!!!!
It slices, it dices, it can run 80+ kph AND achieve max jump! All this, and it has twice the native hardpoints of the other variants, without looking like the child of a Chimp and t800! Pre-order now, you will thank me later!!!! Just 3800 MC!!!

The power of nostalgia isn't something that should be so readily dismissed.

Especially with there having been 10 years since the previous mass-market MechWarrior video game (MechWarrior IV: Mercenaries), five years since the last tangentially-related mass-market game (MechAssault: Phantom War), and four years since the last time a BT/MW novel was actually put into print (To Ride the Chimera), it is little or no exaggeration to say that "nostalgia" is one of the driving factors - and probably the driving factor - behind why the MW franchise, if not BT itself, hasn't died completely.

Hardpoint inflation would see each variant of the Griffin and Wolverine having 6-7 hardpoints, even if the stock models don't initially fill all of them.

For example, the GRF-1N Griffin (the basic/default variant) starts with one PPC in the Right Arm and one LRM-10 launcher in the Right Torso.
The minimum hardpoints would be [1E, 1M].
The total hardpoints could be any of [3E, 3M], [4E, 2M], [2E, 4M], [3E, 4M], [4E, 3M], and so on.
Additional variants include the GRF-2N, GRF-1S, GRF-1DS, and GRF-3M.

Likewise, the WVR-6R Wolverine (the basic/default variant) starts with one AC/5 in the Right Arm, one Medium Laser in the Head, and one LRM-10 launcher in the Left Torso.
The minimum hardpoints would be [1B, 1E, 1M].
The total hardpoints could be any of [3B, 1E, 3M], [4B, 1E, 2M], [2B, 1E, 4M], [1B, 1E, 4-5M], [4-5B, 1E, 1M], and so on.
Additional variants include the WVR-6K, WVR-6M, WVR-7D (requires MASC), WVR-7K, and WVR-7M (requires MASC).

And for both, the number of starting Jump Jets may not necessarily be the maximum number of Jump Jets.
Then there are the AMS hardpoint(s), SHS vs DHS, Std vs ES, Std vs FF, and so on to consider.

Also, note that neither of these is anything like the Shadow Hawk (the SHD-2H, at least) in terms of placement/layout.

You've left out the Clint, Vindicator and Sentinel.

Please, keep this thread civil and on-topic.

If you don't know (which, considering you liked your own post and had no problems listing the mechs from all the games even with correct names, is relatively unlikely), Ragnarok is a creation of some really bad fantasy of one of Microsoft employees. The rest are Clan mechs and those won't be in the game for a while. Lastly, you have the Owens, which is from a different time period and is also unfit for the game... for now.

This is slightly off-topic. I would love to see technicians working on BattleMechs in the new Mechlab for UI 2.0. That change would add tremendous immersion to the Front End, along with random radio chatter and a voice over an intercom paging personnel! I want to feel like I'm preparing for war while tweaking my BattleMech.

Yes hardpoint inflation, which in an equal world would mean the Dervish should have between 8-12. Of course, they only do this for the more limited ones..... leaving "all equal" as it were, and reinforcing the need for further hard point restrictions to actually differentiate the bloody chassis.

Not a bad idea. Adding humans at least in the mechlab would look very cool.

BTW, it is common for all mechs or just the Trebuchet to sometimes jump in the mechlab? I just saw it today, several times. (an easter egg of the new patch?)
