"likely" equating with "soon", apparently. Russ just twitted that March is an Assault. But refuses to say what.

BANSHEE LOVERS, START YOUR ENGINES!!

I hope that they do not make that ugly version that Alex already made. Could be the Zeus too since many have been wanting it with the Blazer.

So the real news is the Mauler in March rumor.

If true they are throwing out the requirement of three timeline appropriate variants. Which criteria do we think they will break? My guess is they will pick a variant outside of the timeline, but I would be just as happy with a made up variant. I think its a bit early to be accelerating the timeline.

Unless...

one of the variants is the Linesman.

That would be pretty cool. Then we could see things like the Caesar added as a Cataphract variant.

Or they've exercised their creative license an created a variant to two...

I'm ready to get my Vindicator on. More then likely for mediums any future ones will be from the 40 and 45 tonnage brackets since we've got 3 50 tonners and 4 55 tonners.

Let's get this medium speculation out of the way. As I said before more 50 and 55 tonnage mechs are unlikely due to their weight brackets being over populated. Let's see what the 40 and 45 tonnage brackets have!

Again, 3 time wise variants and not currently in MWO:

40 Tons
Assassin - 101, 21, 23
Clint - 1-2R, 2-3T, 2-3U
Hermes II - 2K, 2M, 2S, 4K, 5S
Sentinel - 1S, 3K, 3KA, 3KB, 3L, 3M
Vulcan - 2T, 5T, 5M, 5S
Whitworth - 0, 1, 1S, 2

45 Tons
Hatchetman - 3F, 3NH, 5S
Vindicator - 1R, 1SIC, 1X, 3L
Wyvern - 5N, 5Nb, 6N

I'm a little iffy on the Wyvern because the 5Nb is from TRO3075. Anyways while the 40 tonners out number the 45 tonners 2-1 I'm still rooting for the Vindicator. Not to mention we'll get the St. Ives Compact onto the board.

And the source (with links) for this "Mauler in March" rumor is...?

Russ Bullock's tweet on the subject states, "I will say new Assault in March but that is all you will get from me sorry."
Such statement comes as the response to the tweet from one Trey Blankenship, "Any hints for the next chassis to be released? Or are we just getting the Sabre mechs? I'm hoping for a new Heavy!"

Based on the selection criteria we know of, the eligible Assault 'Mechs are the Charger, the Hatamoto-Chi, the Thug, the Zeus, the Cyclops, and the Banshee.
The Annihilator is arguably a long-shot technicality due to the Dragoon-exclusivity and the current game balance concerns surrounding ballistic weapons, as is the King Crab due to the allocation of criticals for its dual AC/20s on two of the would-be-available variants (the KGC-000 and the KGC-0000) vs the presence of arm & hand actuators (in addition to the current game balance concerns surrounding ballistic weapons).

The one-and-only weight slot not yet filled is the 95-ton slot, tonnage restrictions are apparently coming in in April (according to a Jan. 14 tweet by Bryan Ekman), and the Banshee is the only 95-ton 'Mech that has a sufficient number of variants that would be extant in-universe as of 3051; this, IMO, makes the Banshee a far more likely candidate than anything other than the possible exception of the ever-popular Zeus.

Well, since it's sorta confirmed that Alex is working on Mauler, it's good time to start to at least consider mechs with less than three timeline-viable variants. It's hardly the case of assault mechs - because we still have enough of the viable under current rules, but but if we list Annihilator as possibiler next month mech, we could as well consider a little easier to balance Devastator

As far as I know - last night NGNG stream, more info/rumors here.

It should be treated as unconfirmed rumors, except it's only logical - "three variant system" is depriving us of iconic, beloved designs, and iconic, beloved designs make us happy and sell well.
