I have been surprised enough by the mechs that I actually like PILOTING, as opposed to what I think looks the coolest, so I am getting the whole thing just to make sure I don't miss my "Sweet Spot" mech.

That being said, I think if they had made the packages like this it would have been more customer-friendly, though I totally understand why they tiered them the way they did, based upon popularity.

Tier 1: "choose 1 light"
Tier 2: "choose 1 medium" + tier 1
Tier 3: "choose 1 heavy" + tier 1 & 2
Tier 4: "choose 1 assault" + tier 1, 2 & 3
Tier 5: "choose 1 light" + tier 1, 2, 3 and 4
Etc.

This would have gave a little bit of flexibility in what we purchased, while still giving a reason to get higher tiers if we wanted both heavies, for example. It also would have got more people "in the door", since they could have gotten a Timber Wolf at Tier 3, and once you have made that first purchase, every upgrade after that is easier and easier to justify (do the math, it's a no brainer once you start getting premium time).

That example of yours would definitely be better than the current scheme, assuming roughly equal price to the current package deals.

Although, it's still not quite ideal for my nitpicky tastes because it's basically sending the statement "heavies and assaults are better than mediums and lights" because they're placed so high up. Kind of goes against the whole "Role Warfare" thing that this game was supposed to be built around (supposed to curtail the "arm's race" from previous MW games).

Less role warfare and more customer desire and pricing scheme. Omni's like the Timber Wolf and Dire Wolf will be considered more desirable for many reasons other than combat ability. By placing the most desirable 'Mechs in a higher price range they ensure sales of larger packages. I think Cimarb has a pretty good set up that strikes a greater balance between encouraging customers to purchase packages with more than just what they want and driving away customers who are looking for a bargain and something specific. Not a marketing major so I have no clue about what kind of metrics IGP would run for offering package design.

Fair enough. Not to say it isn't valid already, but I can't help but feel this argument would be more valid if there was any kind of similar narrative in the game - other than "there's these other mechs which aren't necessarily better in gameplay terms but cost three times as much".

There is a Narrative. 24 years worth, in relation to the Clans. It can be found in your Battletech TT supplements and novels, and the MW series of games. It's actually a very interesting, in depth and well fleshed out narrative, unlike this game, currently. But any player not familiar with it, should invest the time to learn it, and you will likely understand why so many of us are so passionate about many of the ideas proposed on these forums, for or against.

Like Nathan said, you have to strike a compromise. It doesn't really matter, as PGI isn't going to change things at this point, but having them in weight class order makes sense from a cost perspective, as larger chassis generally cost more. You could do it in "popularity" order, but that would have the Timber even higher in the tiers, if not top. You could have it on reverse popularity order, but that would be really stupid from a monetary standpoint. I was just playing the middle.

I do not see where these are worth $260 dollars, (is it really that hard to mix red, blue, and green, into gold on a paint program?) but if people want to pay $500 for them then go ahead. It means more time that I can play before MWO dies and possibly new mechs and maps. Me personally, I am going to try to scrape together $240 and get everything or if I cannot do that in time, it is A LA Timber Wolf

well, from that shot it looks largely proportionally correct at least, though the thighs are still a chunk too Beyonce.

I think the difference might be due to the prime-variant geometry (i.e. the rounded leg pads).

Well, enjoy. My alt account is Clan Ghost Bear, so I did buy a package, but the Summoner was the extent of my interest. Fortunately for me, 3 of my all time favorite Clan Mechs just happened to be the ones on the bottom 3 tiers. Now I just gotta see if they are worth it.

I think the proportions of it look great, but I have said that since the first (non-upskirt) screenshot. This one definitely looks like it is standing a bit too tall, but that is just my personal taste - more squat while standing still please!

quite likely. Of course since that will be the package exclusive version, just one more reason for me to not worry about T-Wolf. Unless the Hero Wolf does indeed prove to be the jump capable Aidan Pryde version. In which case, I will have to slog through them. Sigh. (Would point out that for most of his career, Aidan did pilot a Summoner though.)

legs could use about a 10% height reduction, but they don't look as egregious as some of the early shots. When will Russ and NGNG learn to actually take GOOD screenshots when giving sneak peeks so as not to enrage the neckbeards?

Some closer up views - they do look nice, but not $260 nice... cool beans to those wealthy enough to waste spend on them, but I don't feel bad for not investing in one myself.

Resentment for having that kind of disposable income and not having the sense to do something more worthwhile with it? That'd be my point of view, although I have no plans to teamkill (though opposing golds might make more tempting targets).

I don't see the point or need for anyone to teamkill them.

They've already made themself a MASSIVE glowing yellow target for the enemy.
They'll die first.

I didn't say I'd be the one doing the teamkilling, I just said that teamkilling would in fact happen...

And if I had to guess about motivations, the people doing it probably aren't exactly happy at the way things are going around here, and see the Gold mechs as a serious screwup/act of greed on PGI's part. And they might want to kill those mechs in "rebellion" to the direction of the game.

Yea, the Golden mechs should not cause people to be angry at the player using it, but to pity him. There are so many better things you could buy with $500. The people who buy this should seek help, they have a problem LOL.

Either that or they are so stinking rich they could care less. Even pity them in a way because money has made them lose all sense or reality.
