It's worth noting that while the first Clan trilogy was being written, TRO 3050 hadn't even come out yet (Lethal Heritage was 1989, Blood Legacy 1990, TRO 3050 1990), so Stackpole wasn't quite working with a solid set of rules yet when stuff was being put into the first two books.

I'm really enjoying this trilogy. I recommend its reading to all Battletech/Mechwarrior fans.

The Clan trilogy and the Warrior trilogy are some of my favorite novels. I recommend reading all six books for fans.

The Invasion books and anything that had to do with Wolf's Dragoons should be mandatory reading for all players, IMO.

From the looks of it, only Lethal Heritage predates TRO 3050:
  • Lethal Heritage: September 1989
  • TRO 3050: May 1990 (sources here & here; one other source gives the publication as September 1989 ;))
  • Blood Legacy: December 1990
  • Lost Destiny: September 1991
Also of note is that TRO 2750 - wherein LosTech was introduced to the Inner Sphere - was published in either April 1989 (source) or November 1989 (sources here & here), so it also predates both Blood Legacy and Lost Destiny (and possibly Lethal Heritage ).

Rumor has it that the next hero is a Quickdraw with ballistics:

That engine is small for a QKD ;)

D: WTF? No AC/20?! How do they miss all the Clint Eastwood references in a Quickdraw named IV-Four?! Seriously, how?

You are going to have to use an AC10 since the Gauss Rifle is more of an AR15 than a pistol

More just disappointed that IV-Four won't be carrying the most powerful autoncannon in the Inner Sphere and lost comedy opportunity. :)

Of course, making sure it does not abuse the meta is important. And this one does that pretty well.

I have a feeling that the Quickdraw hero is going to become a fast favorite and heavily abuse the meta. The only good thing if that design is real is that the two energy slots are in the CT so no using PPCs and ballistics

However, Stackpole was -writing- the trilogy before TRO 3050 was released, which is my point. FASA didn't have things set in stone even at the point of the first TRO 3050 release.

Well, yes...but that was strictly the "Star League-era" TRO, and was only linked to the Clans insofar as many of the 'Mechs therein were cached and even rarely used (usually with upgrades) in second-line or PGC's...in fact, most of them were most memorable as showing up in ComStar's own forces, what with them having their own secret army.

Likewise, FASA likely had the Clans & Level 2 tech planned out well before Stackpole had started writing the Blood of Kerensky trilogy - they had to have provided him with a general outline of how the Clans and Inner Sphere would have interacted, how Clan culture worked from an internal perspective (and how that would affect how Phelan was handled), how Clan 'Mechs/tech would have worked (and, in the case of the Mad Cat, looked), and so on.

IMO, the IS Level 2 tech in TRO 2750 was part dry-run for Clan tech (and possibly MixTech), part attempt to even the playing field for TT gameplay, and part paving the way for the Com Guards to whip it out and beat the Clans with it at Tukayyid.

The perspective is kinda strange; the way the image is stretched/fish-eyed makes the 'Mech seem wider than it would if looked at head-on, and makes it look like the arms are splayed outward in a rather awkward manner.

From a design standpoint: it looks like theu made the "hood" not protrude so far forward, and it's still got the "Droopy Dog" extensions off of the CT. Also, my personal sense of aesthetics would have had the missile launcher mounter on an outboard position rather than underslung, but that's really neither here nor there.
Additionally, the positioning of the cockpit very much makes it a shot trap.
It will be interesting to see how the hitboxes are delineated.

4 ERPPCs and LRMs. It does not matter if it is as big as a barn, since the enemy will be dead before they can close and take advantage of its profile.

You can load similar into the Awesome, ask him how well that works. :(

Still though - not a mech you want shooting at you.

You can load something similar. Problem is it's shoddy less advanced IS tech. A 4 ERPPC build sounds like it'll be vicious. Especially when you mix and match hard points.

Well that all depends on what the CERPPCs can do. If they give us 15 points of damage then you are talking about a crippling 71 points of damage per salvo. :( If it will be like the IS ERPPC, well at least we get faster speeds, and more heat sinks.

Not to mention we don't know how the Target Computer will work.

Guys at PGI must be working 24/7 to deliver all the 8 Clan mechs in June...

PS: that missile launcher is awkward... I would prefer it mounted outward (on the side) of the PPC "pod".
