While both of FD's versions of these 'mechs are epic as always, if either of these two were the only candidates for the next medium, I think I'd go with the Vindicator. Considering their propensity to go the route of putting in medium 'mechs with lower base engines in order to keep their top speeds down after the engine nerf, I'm beginning to think that the Dervish may not be as likely as before. (It also has me wondering as to the actual hardpoints in game for the CN9-D, since it's base speed is much higher then the stock Centurion and is higher then the others can go with a max engine.) The Dervish would give people their fast-backs back (minus some lasers, but it'd load more SRMS,) and PGI tends to shy away from speedy mediums now. Well, at least it's incredibly rare.

The Vindicator has a decent array of weapons on it's base chassis which would be nice for flexibility in hardpoints, and has jump jets that can either be stripped for weight, or kept if that's the pilot's prerogative. Might make for a good replacement for the Wolfhound if it doesn't make it into game.

And...while it's awesome artwork...I haven't touched a Whitworth since the Crescent Hawk games. It's also a lighter Trebuchet...which if we're going to go that route I'd just want a Dervish then.

I'm thinking the Vindicator will be BattleMech 18 and should be announced Nov. 7th. The reason is the Vindicator has many variants, fills the tonnage gap at 45 tons, has jump-jets, and is armed with a PPC.

Garth's latest answers mentions we may be finding out about a 75 ton heavy soon

Q: When will we have a 75 ton 'mech? [Kraven Kor]

A: You'll see B) [Garth]

Only options, I believe, are the Black Knight, the Orion, and Flashman. All would be great additions. (Side note...there's very few 75 ton 'mechs, Clan or not, out there.) I for one would NOT want to pilot a Black Knight nor a Flashman with how Double Heat Sinks won't actually be double. Orion go!

Q: How many Inner Sphere BattleMechs are planned to be released before Clans are introduced? Will each weight class have the same number of BattleMechs? [Maverick01]
A: We don't have a set number - we're adding them as quickly as we can. Though yes the weight classes will have (roughly) the same number total. [Garth]

So, with the previous idea that there's 32 'mechs planned, it's kind of cool that we could see quite a few before the game actually "launches." So, if the mech you want isn't in game...more hope it'll be sooner then later. :)

Unfortunately, neither the Black Knight nor the Flashman would have the requisite three variants until the 3060s.

On the FLS-8K Flashman:
"Fewer than 500 Flashman 'Mechs were operational at the beginning of the First Succession War. All were assigned to the front lines in the initial fighting. The factory complexes of the Flashman's producer, Renault-Prime, were slagged in 2796, destroying all molds, prototypes, spare parts, and blueprints. The few remaining Flashman 'Mechs continued to operate on the front lines, until the 'Mech all but disappeared from Successor State forces."

The "downgraded" FLS-7K, built by Defiance on Hesperus II, is the only variant in production until the -8K resumes production in 3054.
The next variant to come into production, according to the Master Unit List, is the FLS-9C... which isn't available until 3061.

The Marauder is Unseen, the Flashman has too few variants in production, the Black Knight likewise has only one variant (the BL-7-KNT) in production until 3052 (the debut of ComStar's BL-9-KNT "Clanbuster" model; the "basic/original" BL-6-KNT doesn't restart production until 3065), and everything else in the 75-ton bracket is Clan-built and/or doesn't come into production until later.

This effectively leaves the Orion as the only available 75-ton IS 'Mech with enough timeline-appropriate variants (the ON1-K, ON1-V, ON1-VA, ON1-V-DC, and ON1-M (available in 3049, according to the Master Unit List)) to meet the requirements of the MWO advancement system.
Unless they put the Marauder in-game and/or decide to ignore timeline-appropriateness, the Orion is really the only choice for a near-term IS-built 75-tonner.

You realize that Battletech has just over 500 unique canonical 'mech chassis, right?

Alas, we don't have near that many in the current timeline.

Actually, MechWarrior Online and MechWarrior Tactics have a similar lineup of BattleMechs:
http://www.mechwarri...Warrior_Tactics
  • Atlas
  • Awesome
  • Catapult
  • Dragon
  • Grasshopper
  • Hunchback
  • Jenner
  • Orion
  • Spider
  • Stalker
  • Trebuchet
We might see either the Grasshopper (70 tons) or Orion (75 tons) on Nov. 7th, if a heavy is chosen.

Orion now, Grasshopper later!

PS: not that the MWT redesigns are bad... the problem is the art direction totally misses the decadent, pessimist feel of the Battletech. It's like making a cute anime of cyber-punk.

Would love to eventually see a Wolfhound in game.

Very cool looking well armed light mech produced in 302 so it fits into the timeline.

It might happen, it has 3 variants in 3050, so we atleast have the possibility.

1 of of these 3 variants has C3, which there is no plans to add to MWO.

The other 2 variants are virtually the same.

Come one, if you want a Wolfhound, pilot a Jenner. Same tonnage, and 6 energy hardpoints for you laser boats.

If the arguments that similar weight classes and hardpoints rules out mechs then we lose a lot of different mechs really.

But I see your point. I just have a bit of a dislike to Jenners.

There are Ravens with a lot of energy hardpoints too. :)

PS: I know the Wolfhound is an excellent mech in TT. It is actually one of the very few good stock mechs. But it just don't work in MWO.

And yes, we lose many different mechs. But in MWO's defense, many of these mechs don't add much to the TT either...

What's the problem with the Jenny? ;)

I'm leaving if I don't get an urbanmech!

well..not really...but please?!

The Orion would make a great 75 tonner for this era.
