I am not sure who wrote up those rules on engine rating, but it does not apply across the board. As a quick example, the Boar's Head can equip up to a 400 engine, even though the stock engine on the Atlas is 300 (300*1.2=360). While there is a variant that equips a 400, it is a post-Jihad variant (K2), so not applicable.

Along those same rules, the poor Urbanmech would essentially have a fixed engine rating, as 60*1.4=84, which is still smaller than the smallest current engine in MWO (100), and only give a top speed of (85/30)*16.2=45.8kph, which is barely faster than the Annihilator in question.

Stock for that variant, not for the chassis in general.

See the AWS-9M (XL320 as opposed to the STD240 most Awesome use) or the CN9-D (XL300 as opposed to STD200) as well

Different stock engines, different engine caps

Edit: noticed a typo on the AWS engines

The Boar's Head is a bad example because it comes stock with a 400 engine. The Urbie gets gimped with no lower actuators, small engine, slow twist speed, among other stuff and then bring in pin point damage that allows a blind man to get perfect shots. Now if PGI did not get lazy and actually wrote in heat, speed, etc affecting aim and simulate the dice rolls but still allow for skill, the Urbie would have much more of a chance as brawling would be more viable and max range shots less. Besides PGI mixing the cockpit/gyro into the engine probably screwed the Urbie even more.

My point being, even though it was a joke comment, the Annihilator is just as viable in MWO as any other mech. It has the required number of timeline variants and has no equipment that is not currently in game.

If the King Crab ever gets it's MWO debut, don't see a reason why Annhilator shouldn't.

the more big fat targets for people that think big guns are all that matters, for me to kill, the merrier.

Being we're talking about the Urbie, and I can't remember if I've done it...
I'll shamelessly plug my Urbanmech Thread, which has builds and how-to-make-an-urbie in it.

And having tried an Urbie, you don't do all that badly in it tbh.
And you can do really well in it (my friend having killed all the way up to an Atlas and a Timberwolf with his UM-R60).

Now if he can murder mechs like that in a pseudo-urbie with 1 AC/10 and a small laser, regardless of speed, think how nasty an Annihilator would be regardless of speed.

I also think that for the Little Urbanmech, we either keep it at a fixed 60 engine (likely needed to exist imo), or make its cap 100, so it can choose a 60 or a 100.

So that means for all Steiners here, don't use your Atlas Scouts too often, could get ugly.

thank goodness

some Steiners

don't bother with dozens

of shiny medals

and other vanity trinkets

thus

requiring 100 metric tons

to haul our butts

across the

Inner Sphere

Fifty five is fine

where JJs be

or Seventy Five

should heavy battle

our day see

But when

100 tons

is all you will drive

I am forced

to wonder

"Are ya compensatin'

for something,

Laddy-buck?"

I know some guys here who only have Atlas variants in their lap but I always want to take/pilot something new. There are so much options you can choose. Expecially with the new Clan Mechs. Love the versatility of this game!

Funny but as General Ariana Winston proved: You will always lose to a Gauss round to the cockpit. Or you could use the Indiana Jones theory that Gun > Sword.
