I believe melee will be added sometime next year. At least for melee weapons (not punches and kicks) - it wouldn't be too hard to implement.

Eventually they would get around to melee if they have the talent to make it. A melee mech pack would sell itself. Its too much money to pass up.

Melee would be easy to implement as punch / kick.

It's a weapon, which can be grouped.
Up the weapon limit from 16 to 20, add in Left Fist, Right Fist, Left Foot, Right Foot weapons.
Any mech with a Hand Actuactor automatically gets a 'Punch' and any mech with a Foot Actuator automatically gets a 'kick'.
Range is low, etc. Damage figured out as per tabletop (Weight / 10 wasn't it?)
Group at will as standard.

Comstar Mech pack "Battle of Tukayyid":

Light: Firefly
Medium: Grim Reaper
Heavy: Lancelot or Flashman (or the already announced Black Knight)
Assault: Thug or Spartan (or the already announced King Crab)

Bonus: Spector and/or Exterminator with a full working Chameleon Light Polarization Shield :D

The Grim Reaper isn't in time-line (first introduced in 3052) and has only one variant pre-Dark Age. Likewise where are you getting "already announced" for the Black Night?

Comstar is not really a major Firefly user (Though outside the Dragoons they were the only user still extant). Grimm Reaper doesn't exist yet. Spartan is all but extinct. Less than 24 in the entire inner sphere before the Jihad. Thug i slacking available variants due to one be a "Royals" exclusive. Flashman doesn't get a 3rd variant until 3068. Spectors and Exterminators just ain't happening anytime soon.

Most likely for a Comstar pack would be:

Mongoose or Hermes (I would prefer the Hussar, but figure it's a long shot)
Crab or Sentinel
Lancelot or Champion (Black Knight appears to be the forerunner for the IS pack)
Crockett/Katana

would be the most likely, IMO.

The Lancelot, btw, not only would have the fun of giving us a super fast heavy, but has a JJ variant (01x), and one with ballistics (03 and 05 models), so it has good chassis diversity, even if it will also have most of the weaknesses of the 60 ton class.

plenty of mechs to tide over a year or two. Not, mind you if one wishes them to have the "perfectly equal" numbers in each class that some people seem to favor, but they are there, with the remaining 2750/3025/3039/3050 TRO mechs and Dragoon Mechs, and such. PLus there are some 3055/3058 designs and other outliers one could squeeze in, technically.

melee for sure, Atlas don't need a weapon, just pick up any destroyed mech on the field and use it like a baseball bat heh!

All Champions now have a 30% XP bonus instead of 10.
Curious to say the least, with no announcement apart from a splash page in the websites scrolling banner.

I would love to see melee myself. And if the community pushes it, it may be possible. But what I really want is a time jump to the Fedcom Civil War ear. But Only after two or three seasons of CW. Depending on how long a season is.

I think it'll probably be longer than that until you get your civil war. They have plenty of mechs to release from the 3055 TRO, and I can't imagine they'd want to miss that opportunity by skipping past that phase of the Clan invasion.

Besides, I want a Daikyu.

I think they released some 3050''s variants already (we are in 3049), but the timeline is still rigid.

That would be a very short sighted move by PGI.

After Operation Revival ends on Tukayyid in May 3052, there are several notable to momentous events:
-3055: Assassination of Melissa Steiner and the Red Corsair Event
-3056: 4th Skye Guards attempt to foment revolt in Isle of Skye/Second Skye Rebellion
-3057: Marik/Liao attack the FedCom in Operation Guerrero, Clan Wolf and Jade Falcon engage in Refusal War, FedCom Split and Chaos March formed.
-3058: Jade Falcons invade Coventry, Victor Steiner Davion leads multi-national task force to remove them. Word of Blake conquers Terra.
-3059: Operations Bird Dog, Bulldog and Serpent are launched, beginning the Twilight of the Clans.
-3060: Smoke Jaguars annihilated, Great Refusal fought on Strana Mechty
-3062: FedCom Civil War begins, Draconis March invades the Draconis Combine.

So a HUGE amount of CW related events, and defining history would be skipped, and just as importantly:
-TRO 3055
-TRO 3058
-TRO 3060

accelerating the timeline to the FedCom CivWar, would severely limit their time and ability to maximize introducing and releasing the designs from these TROs, which would be bad marketing. And the attendant fervor of the slow reveal of things like the Clans ATM launchers, MRMS, Inner Sphere er and LB-x and ultra weapons, Light Gauss, etc.

And greatly reduce time to make needed balance adjustments to minimize power creep in the interim.

A ComStar mech pack HAS to have the Crab in the Medium slot. In honor of Judith from the book Exodus Road.
