Maybe the IIC variants will be the Clan "Hero" mechs? O.o
Mindless speculation......

When asked about it (town hall, maybe? Or Twitter if not), Russ was a bit surprised about the question and said that was the plan (to have Hero Clan mechs).
IIC will be a huge pain in the butt for them, so I imagine Hero Clan variants will be around long before them.

As I said, mindless speculation on my part...
So yeah, other than a unique (OP/P2W?) CT, what else can they do? "Here's your 30% bonus core."? I would hope for something more, but any hardpoints are going to add to the overall viability of a mech. Unless you remove the omni mechanic. There are Clan mechs that are non-omni, but not many....

The Heroes pods are fixed in place, but you can still put pods in - these will replace the hero ones till removed, rather than being available for general use?
Alt Hero Pods available for MC only?
Alt Hero Pods only available on Hero?

I doesn't need to be complicated. The hero Clan omnimech is just a different omni configuration.
For instance the Widowmaker Direwolf (let's call it the W config):
LA: 2 Energy
LT:
CT: 2 Energy
H: 1 Energy
RT: 1 Ballistic
RA: 2 Energy
You could replace any arm or side torso with the regular omnipods, but the center and the head are fixed.

Also, will Clan Hero Omnimechs be able to mount that chassis's regular omnipods? In terms of power and design I can see glaring problems arising from either case.

Exactly! If you sell just the 30% bonus core, the mix-and match capabilities of the omnipods will be a HUGE benefit.... There is precedent though in the (I) variants.
Another option is to sell the Hero with the Hero pods, but the 30% bonus is tied directly to the Hero pod set. The more pods you swap, diminishing returns...
But again, this runs counter to the (I) variants.

This is the biggest question. You can just point at a mech and say, "this one's iconic! We have to have this one," but for game play balance you need to look at what those pods could be added to. For instance the Widowmaker CT & head with the Prime's arms could mean something like 11 energy hard points. That'd make for a nasty laser drill.

Hero Mechs being able to change their Omnipods with standard Omnimechs in either direction isn't a question of the 30% Hero Boost that is attached to the core, the question and problems with design is having a unique set of Omnipods for a chassis locked behind a paywall.
I am vocally against Hero Mechs being a Unique hardpoint layout without a CBill counterpart as it enables situations where players are paying for an advantage but atleast with IS Hero Mechs you have to take the good with the bad. We aren't in a situation where you can choose to take the Dragon Slayer's RT and put it into a Victor-9S but Omnipods are exactly that, it's opening a whole new can of worms.

I see no problem.
The Omnimechs are not currently balanced by the number of hardpoints but by the heat/critical space of the weapons (at least not best omnis, like the Direwolf, Timberwolf and Stormcrow) .The Direwolf won't be more powerful with more hardpoints - it has plenty enough...
Adding more omnipods (hero or regular) for the omnimechs will only bring more options to the table and (hopefully) help the weaker omnimechs.

I mostly agree with this, but adding head/CT energy points (to the DWF, that is) is an advantage, compared to the arm-only energy hardpoints on the rest of the variants. Very similar to how the CT ballistic point on the Timber Prime is slightly better than the rest (though an energy point in one of those sections is quite a bit better than a ballistic one, due to number of crit spaces available).

It is an advantage, but not that much. We already accepted some better-than-regular heroes, like the Ember, Ilya and Pirate's Bane.
I'm willing to accept the Widowmaker, specially because it is a canon mech.
And because of this:

It is minimal, I agree. Just pointing out that "some infinities are bigger than other infinities"
