well, here is my Hussar II, torn between designing a contemporary version, or a maxxed out 3145 version for Republic Forces.

Is that a torrent mounted weapon on its back? And if so man that would be hard to use. Unless you have a co-polite. I have always wondered why there are no torrent mounted weapons on mechs. Torrent mounted weapons + co-polite = cover fire at all times.

Well, I considered making one, and I still might. But you would have to mount a double cockpit, and a mech turret, which I forget the rules for, but I think have to be on a side torso (for some dumb reason) and I don't think they give a full 360 fire arc.

PGI could easily add turrets mounted weapons to the game by having them act like "arms". So it makes me wonder if they would add them or not. As for a lore base reason, most of the functions and movements are handled by computers within the mech that are directed by the pilots controls. If you think about how difficult that it is for a human to walk and stay balanced then try to control those same actions with a joystick, foot pedals, and very minimal control through the neurohelmet you can see why a computer has to handle most of the actions.

Your Pug and CarrionCrows' bombshell are the best. Congrats! Well deserved!

(yours has a pug and an UrbanMech, how more adorable it can get?)

ah, thanks too! Definitely think Carrion had the best one though, but I might be biased by the cleanness computer rendering allows.

did i miss something?
in ngng they stated a new chassis ( hero first ) is coming on feb 4th but:

where is the confirmation about it being a light mech?

in NGNG they stated a new light Hero was coming out feb 4, actually, then played the guessing game where the only other tidbit was that it WON'T be a Panther.

Yes it's new, it's a light, it's "controversial", it's not the panther. Some speculation is two pages behind, due to the "controversial" it could be the Urbie, others here point @ the Hussar.

actually, just thought it was a good way to promote my Hussar II 1000-X design.

During Fortress Republic, the RotS looked for every advantage, every force multiplier possible. One design used to great effect was the brainchild of Ghost Knight Bishop Steiner. Long before the Jihad, Steiner had started his career as the first Lyran born Rabid Fox in Davion's MIIO, so he understood the advantages stealth provides better than most Mech pilots. After old age took him from active duty, he embraced learning the ins and outs of Mech Engineering. Still active, though wheel chair bound at the age of 132, he designed the Hussar II, for the Fidelis and Ghost Knights to use. Based off of the venerable Hussar, and sparing no expense, it is built almost entirely of Clan Tech components. Endo Steel w/ Triple Strength Myomer. 5 tons of Ferro-Fibrous Armor. A 360XXL engine and Small Cockpit. A Clan-tech Extended range Large Laser, limited jump capability and an Angel ECM suite all allow it to massively outperform it's predecessor. But the final component is what makes it the deadliest fast raider and head hunter in the Republic's arsenal: the resurrected Chameleon Light Polarization Shield and Null Signature System. The Void system was considered, but rejected due to it's lack of usefulness at high speed.

IIRC, it was indicated in a previous NGNG that the upcoming new 'Mech (that is, new chassis rather than a new variant of an already announced chassis) would be 1.) a light, 2.) "humanoid", and 3.) "controversial".

Javelin would be a great addition - a light with jump and tons of missile hard points = jumping streakboat aka can of RAID for bugmechs like Spiders, Cicadas

but oh so limited and boring. Firestarter would be much more interesting, IMO. Same speed, better armor, 6 energy hardpoints and 2 ballistic on the prime? Of course, I want the Urbanmech, but it'd do in a pinch. Or the Hussar (which ain't humanoid, so.......)
