I'd like a town hall that covered decals & custom geo. Decals because they said after phase 3 and geo would be after decals, more or less. Of course he could throw in the Night Gyr announcement as well.
I think the Linebacker will be the next heavy after the Gyr because it does have a notable number of fans & there is no other heavy omni for the clans. Did Russ say the next medium & 2 heavies would be Omni's? If he didn't, that opens things up quite a bit.

Wait, they said they're actually adding custom geo?!
I thought it was something they thought about doing before deciding against!
Oh man, oh man, oh man.

So, besides the Night Gyr, the other heavy could be either the Linebacker or some non-omni mech, like the Black Python, Grizzly or even the Rifleman IIC.
For medium, we have the omnimechs Black Lanner, Huntsman and Mongrel (most solid candidates), but several good battlemechs too (including some IIC).

Time line appropriate Heavy Omni's that are not the Linebacker or Night Gyr.

Well we know that he was talking Omni's in the Town Hall, as the next pack was going to be an Omni-mech pack, but he wasn't a fan of the light or assault options, so we can narrow it down to Omni's at this point in time.

Idk for sure, the last I heard they were planning on doing it after decals were introduced.

The Linebacker would be mediocre but the others would be straight up bad. Standard engines, etc.

What reference material would you check for that? Would it be certain early editions of certain manuals, or were the retcons so pernicious that you'd need early printings of certain editions of manuals?
(I ask because I'm still scrub tier when it comes to lores and stuffs)

Well that's commendable, however I don't think the Cyclops was a rare Mech. You may not see it every day in the FWLM, but you would not be totally surprised by seeing one either I guess. The NAIS Atlas e.g. lists the Cyclops as typical for the heaviest FWLM units (assault, type 2) in the 4th SW.
Admittedly, by 3053 the Cyclops became less common as the FWL favoured other designs, though it was never near King Crab-level of rarity ("only a handful" had survived the SW outside of ComStar according to TRO:3039 until the production was restarted after the Clan invasion).
IMHO you can drive the Cyclops in Marik colours without reservation.

But the more I dig into the retconned Crossbow Battlemech, the more I want that one. And I think the reasons are pretty solid.
The biggest reason? I always like the basic feel and look of the Orion, but it's hitbox Geometry is BAD. Butt when I was doing a quick sketch of the IS Crossbow I had an Epiphany:
Most of the aesthetic elements I liked on the Orion are present on the XBow. Especially my cherished ON1-VA with it's big missile drum arms.
But the Xbow has way better hitbox potential with much more massive arms to torso ration, hinting at good tankability, a smaller profile at 60 tons, and as a stock 84 kph mech enough speed and base agility to be a solid twister.
Downside is no super high hardpoints that most people feel are mandatory. But with it's hitboxes and mobility, it has a lot of Centurion like hit and fun skirmisher potential, especially with traditional IS Hardpoint inflation.
360 max engine (104 kph) and enough potential hardpoints to utilize larger number of lighter weapons. A few mock ups:
-CROSSBOW CRS-6B:
JJs: No
ECM: No
Equipment:
-H:
-CT:
-RT: PPC x1
-LT:
-RA: LRM10 x1, Ammo (LRM) x1, Medium Laser x1
-LA: LRM10 x1, Ammo (LRM) x1, Medium Laser x1
-RL:
-LL:
Hardpoints:
-H:
-CT:
-RT: E x2
-LT:
-RA: Mx2, Ex1
-LA: Mx2, Ex1
-RL:
-LL:
.... just adding Endo and a 325-350 XL, then swapping the LRM10s for paired SRM4s in each arm, and you have a mean machine.
-CROSSBOW CRS-6C:
JJs: No
ECM: No
Equipment:
-H:
-CT:
-RT: PPC x1
-LT:
-RA: AC10 x1, Ammo (AC) x1
-LA: Medium Laser x1
-RL:
-LL:
Hardpoints:
-H:
-CT:
-RT: Ex3
-LT:
-RA: Bx2
-LA: Ex3
-RL:
-LL:
-CROSSBOW CRS-X(P):
JJs: No
ECM: No
Equipment:
-H:
-CT:
-RT: Large Laser x1
-LT:
-RA: LRM5 x2, Ammo (LRM) x1, Medium Laser
-LA: LRM5 x2, Ammo (LRM) x1, Medium Laser
-RL:
-LL:
Hardpoints:
-H:
-CT:
-RT: Ex1
-LT:
-RA: Mx2, Ex2
-LA: Mx2, Ex2
-RL:
-LL:
.... Here either PGI makes a home brew based off the Obsolete "X" version. Either the lower speed is ignored, or comped thru better quirks/ ECM, extra hardpoints, etc. One could also give it a higher torso mount. Whatever.
I think the IS Crossbow battlemech has the potential to vie for best IS 60 tonner, with better hitboxes than the DRG, Lancelot, etc, better speed than RFLs, and such.
And it would look good doing it.

But with good soaky hitboxes, and that loadout would be a very effective battler. Especially since well, quirks.
