I'm hoping it's a light.

Either an assault or light would be the best.
I agree we have more than enough heavies but we have very few "light" mediums (40-45 tons). Assassin not only fills a new (rare) role (light medium missile boat), but also fits a tonnage not well explored (40 tons).
I really want the lights to catch up (Wasp! Stinger! Valkyrie!) , but maybe they don't sell as much as the other mechs (because of the fixed price)...
PS: also, IS assault class could use the Longbow and the Charger...

I don't think so. The Crusader would not add anything, being yet another 65kph heavy Mech with an armament you can have on many other Mechs. Other than nostalgia, there is no reason for the Crusader.
That is why I am hoping for the Excalibur: a 70 ton Mech with an engine cap of 400, armed with mainly ballistics and missiles. (and just imagine: quirks to make an LRM20 useful...).
I'd take the Charger too, having a 400 engine and being another cavalry Mech.
But then, nostalgia is a better salesman than novelty and uniqueness in this game...

Really?
Done right the Crusader is a jump capable mech that has the ability to pack a decent variety of weapons from all 3 types, and should benefit form the Battlemaster/Banshee "Big Arm" syndrome to shield it's side torsos, likely making it much more XL Friendly than any current IS 65 tonner.
And unless we see a timeline jump, the argument can be made at this point that there realyl isn't ANYTHING new under the sun, in any weight class.
But being able to run, for instance, Orion type loadouts, on a more mobile, xl friendly chassis? I'd sign up. I'd still prefer the Assassin, but I'd take the Crusader before any existing timeline Heavy or Assaults

I think the perfect light mech to introduce would be the Javelin, as it has some nice variants and would add a 30 tonner that could actually contribute in a fire fight. But I totally second the idea of a Wasp/Stinger pack, hopefully at the price of a normal mech pack. I think that could be possible since there would be so many shared assets between the Wasp/Stinger and Valkyrie/Phoenix Hawk.
Anywho, we need more lights and any of those would be just fricking great.

No more heavies until we fill out the 20-30 range bracket and add some more 40-45 tonners IMO. While we're at it, lets give them a purpose and role on the battlefield.

It's not like I would disregard the Crusader being a nostalgic myself. But no, Orion type loadouts don't appeal to me, so a lighter jumpcapable Orion is not what I'd look forward too. I cannot see myself doing anything with the Crusader I could not do with other Mechs.
You on the other hand do, and that's fine for you. Different tastes and all that. And of course the Crusader has many fans (and thus many defenders, obviously ), so I'd be surprised if it was not added to the game sooner or later.

This is true, I was just pointing out that the "does nothing new" was not wholly accurate.... along with giving more potential FW (if anyone actually plays that anymore, lol) dropdeck versatility.
If we're going by the "does nothing for me" standard... well PGI need never release another Light or Assault mech ever again, by my preferences, lol.

I think the Charger would be much more interesting than the Thug..
AND we MIGHT just get one with MASC given how PGI has been prolific with created variants, and there is an "experimental" variant that has MASC on sarna (has a supercharger as well so would still have to be a created variant, but its enough justification for MASC).

The Thug is simply my favorite Assault. So I decided I should stomp about imperiously, demanding it!

I'm going to follow in your foot steps here a bit, thanks the Marauder IIC...
COYOTL NAO!
She's the 40t mech the Clans need.
High mounts, reasonably fast, lots of pod space and likely decent hit boxes...

I can drop any Crusader loadout into my JM6-A -- indeed I've been theory-crafting my Crusaders on the JM6-A for months (harebrained examples: #1 #2). But then I take a look at the Jager (yech) and the unseen Crusader -- and yeah, I still want the Crusader.
That said, I agree that Stinger/Wasp would really offer something genuinely new (as jumping 20-tonners), meta-unfriendly as the might be, and I want those too.
