Well, the IS 20 tons department has the Locust, with more energy+ballistic variants than energy+missile variants. And there is the Flea forever haunting us (with all energy+ballistic variants).

Wasp is mostly missile + energy or full energy (with 1 energy + ballistic).
Stinger is either ballistic + energy or full energy, with less canonical variants.

I think not only the Wasp is more iconic and common, but it is also more interesting with MWO in mind.

Analysis of the Wasp and Stinger.

(honestly, I want them both, specially if in the same package)

Also, IF we must choose, can't we basically replicate most Stinger builds on the Wasp variants? WSP-1K seems to have a machine gun, and the energy boat variants would be close enough to the STG-3G. The opposite is not true I think.

That said, I also see no good reason to not throw them in a same pack (and treat them as a single chassis for levelling purposes). Since both 'mechs have their fans, it'd be an easy way to guarantee viable sales, especially as it's really only the development effort of an extra head.

Same pack yes, but as different chassis for all purposes.

I don't disagree, I just like the Stinger more. Especially used the 3G a lot in TT. (plus in actual TT the various variants that make the WSP more appealing for MWO... all actually are kind of weak, in actual TT use.... 6x SL sounds good... until you are trying to hit stuff 90 meters out.... with a +4 to hit penalty. SMH)

I can tell you one simple reason, unfortunately. From the Concept Art, to Modeling Perspective, it's no less work to produce a Wasp than it is an Annihilator. So basically we are asking PGI to devote twice the resources, and get half the return.

The sad truth with Lights are they have a lack of value in game, etc, that isn't reflected in the resources needed to add them. So while from a perceived value, the WSP/STG pack seems good to US; from PGIs budget, it does not. Doubly damning is that no single Light is likely to have the perceived value to get good sales as a stand alone.

There are three realistic ways, IMO to see the Wasp and Stinger happen:

1) Is to have them mostly share the same art assets, with just enough variation to be visually distinguishable. Thing is, this would still be more work, and as such would be more reasonable to be a 25-30 USD base pack.

2) Or be offered as WSP as the Base Pack, with the Stinger being the "reinforcements". Maybe, like the PXH offer it with 2 separate Heroes, one for each chassis. Again, this would require a LOT of shared art assets to make viable.

3) Stinger or Wasp be the bottom tier on a New Jumbo Pack. Perhaps they could come up with a good "Special Reason" to market one, but IMO that is the least likely, and the best reason I could see for that would be that HBS is making their 4th Succession War expansion and needs more models, so PGI Puts together a "Harebrained Lance" Pack, with either the Wasp or Stinger, a 3025 Medium of choice, and say the Crusader for Heavy and Charger for Assault, or something similar.

They could market that on top of the usual mech of the month, potentially. (also as 4th War,t hey could market it as a Wolf Dragoon Lance, Kell Hounds, etc... whatever).

But otherwise... Lights are just a value dead end for PGI, hence our not seeing one in how long, now?

No, just a gut feeling.

Bushwacker, Marauder IIC, Night Gyr, Linebacker, etc. signalize PGI is now moving for the later designs. Russ even suggested some MW4 mechs might start appearing in the game next year.

That would leave no room for mechs not too iconic or just very similar to those already in the game (for instance: Guillotine/Grasshopper; Thug/Awesome; Champion/Dragon; Sentinel, Hermes II, Clint and Vulcan/Phoenix Hawk; Lancelot/Rifleman, Flashman/Black Knight).

Ok. I still hope we see old iconic behemoths like Emperor, Spartan, Crockett or Pillager in this game. But with all the recent power creep...

Sadly, none of those are actually Iconic. Honestly, even the Crusader, Wasp and Stinger I don't think truly qualify, although they are at least bolstered by HG Unseen notoriety.

But when I was locking horns with Imperius about jumping forward, this is exactly what I said would happen, essentially the current era mechs would be forgotten, collecting dust on the shelves.

YEAH, none of those mechs are even close to being as iconic as the Scorpion and the Goliath!

Despite being a bit of a joke in TT, the A1 Charger might be good in MWO....

If the Charger is XL friendly, it will be a beast.

Well the A1 Charger can mostly be replicated by the Gargoyle....

Yeah, well, I figure that probably ended up going the way of the Archers "destructible missile doors"...... I'm just happy to actually see a mech with tons of unique architecture again, finally, instead of yet another lego mech.

Indeed. This one and the Huntsman (especially the Huntsman) have some crazy new design elements I cannot wait to see.

Finally someone who likes the Spartan. I am a huge fan of the design and the design philosophy (hence I also like the Charger, flawed as it is). However even I have to admit it is not terribly iconic. It does have a fascinating fluff, though.

When it comes to 20 tons I would love the Fireball. Speed is life. Life is victory.

I share a degree of pessimism - just not all of it. I doubt PGI will suddenly ignore all pre-3055 Mechs, or even pre-3058. They will simply go for what they think sells well. And I don't think Crockett or Ostroc were ever very high on that list. Since many of my favourite Mechs are dark horses (Ostroc, Spartan, Excalibur etc.), I am not terribly happy about it. Moreover, now that PGI just invents as many variants as they need, they will go for 'popular' Mechs even more.

However, and that is my point, PGI does not really care from what period the Mech is - for better and for worse. Posted Image
And the coming Clan Mechs are most likely just the result of slowly but surely exhausting the Invasion Clan Mechs. Scraping the bottom of the barrel now. We are nowhere near that when it comes to IS Mechs.
