- I spent around 100$ in WoT, so 120$ for MWO shouldn't be too much of a problem...
- I consider Legendary the only interesting option. So, for me, it's Legendary or nothing...
- I pre-ordered Mass Effect 3 and Diablo 3. Two franchises that I liked and spent a lot of time playing, but the latest releases where less than the developpers promised (to put it mildly...). So, you can now guess that I'm no longer a fan of pre-ordering or paying before seeing a game...
- I don't know much about MWO mechanic. How many mechs, maps or game modes will be available at release?... No feedbacks from peoples who actually tried the beta... I don't feel I know enough about the state of the game. Fun to play?... Well balanced?... Negligeable server lag?... Tedious C-Bills and XP grinding or not?...
- That may be secondary to some peoples, but after playing others MW games and WoT, watching videos of MWO and seeing that mechs don't make tree falls when you hit them is quite a turnoff for me...
So, here's the challenge:
Why should I spend 120$ for a MMO game that is so young and unproven...
I would say mainly because the developers took a "dead franchise" and took a big gamble to revistalize it. And i mean from what ive read they almost couldnt find anyone to publish the product as a single player game and changed the format to F2P. If you think youll get the game and even buy 3-4 months of premium then you might as well take the gamble. Hell i was disappointed with Diablo 3 as well, only got to level 56 and half way through hell mode but i still logged in some 45+ hours so to me i feel i got my monies worth. How much time in MWO would you need to log to break even with 120?
I mean i was closed beta and open beta for WoT. I payed 0 when the game launched and never did spend cash but i also played 1000+ hours of beta and got the Sherman for free. For that 1000+ hours of enjoyment i would of payed triple what the legendary costs for MWO. And hell with MW4 Mercs which most consider a horrid joke to the series, I still did NBT drops for almost 2 years......

But the way I see it is- I can risk $120 for a game I hope is going to be fun to play when I weigh it against how disappointed I could be if I didn't do it when I could, this opportunity only comes once buddy and you have to decide for yourself which would you be more disappointed with - wasting the $120 if the game sucks or missing the opportunity when you had it?

the $120 is not to 'preorder' but to support a newer, smaller company trying to get its footing so it can continue to expand after the game launches. for your gift of money to them, they are giving you a bunch of cool shiney toys to play with that give lifetime boosts.
About that, I know IGP is kinda new, but all I could find about Piranha is they seems to make games for Xbox or Playstation... Any feedback on these games?... Are they good?...

I view the risk as less than if I had put my money into Star Trek Online (which I did) and then regretted it for the cost vs reward- but still glad to support the franchise.
Indeed, I was also disappointed with STO... You destroy a borg cube and save the day, when there are 5 other cubes floating in the area... quite the immersive experience...

I long ago stopped trying to convince people they need to spend money that could otherwise be spent on their kids, their upkeep or their own food. If you need convincing its a good sign you should keep the money for mor eimportant things.
That said i will get he Elite package as i'm about to drop 600 on a new gaming PC to play the game anyway.

Did you know more when you pre-order D3 and ME3 ? Neither did I, but I had faith, and I might be naive, but I want to keep faith in this game. So I paid, and if everyone do as I do, devs get more money and can hire more people to work on the game and/or go on vacations and pay for their drugs...but then they are more relaxed and work better on the game so it's all the same in the end right ?

In both cases, I couldn't imagine failure was possible because of their experiences with their previous releases...
You could say that I had more expectations than faith...

It's a beta...Plus I think I remember a member of the PGI team saying something about getting the trees to fall in the future, when they'll have more server-power or something.
I really hope so... If the gameplay is good, I could live without falling trees. But I'm so used to see tree falling or fences breaking, betraying an enemy movement in WoT... Or the pure fun of seeing a mech bringing down every tree it touches in Mech Commander 2...

However, the most important thing is that you're a fan- even if it's not perfect from day 1, you're going to be willing to stick at it for a bit and do your bit in helping make it better. F2P games are maturing and MWO has a good inspiration to draw on (World of Tanks, for one, is a solid game and there's no shame in being inspired by something that works). Even if it's not perfect, you have the added benefit of stomping around in big BattleTech mechs, and the videos released so far have certainly got me excited for that alone.
That, my friend, is on the + side of my reflexion...

I, too, was somewhat disappointed in ME3 and Diablo 3. I don't regret the decision to buy since I feel I got a good game out of them, but they have warts for sure. I realize that there will be some warts on this game too once the "ooo, ahhhh..." factor has worn off.
Just chill for a few weeks, and see how you feel when Aug 6th rolls around.

I'm actually curious to know more about how they managed to get the franchise from Microsoft claws... I though they closed everything FASA, video games and tabletop alike...

Dunno why did you feel the need to post about it ? We're hardly in a position to convince you with info we don't have.
So why not wait like most others
