as long as the cockpit is as awesome or better than what we saw in the trailer i will be happy. honestly, the only reason i never played first person in MW4 was the horrible looking cockpit. i always played first person in MW3.

First sorry if this thread exists. I just couldnt find a forum search anywhere.

That being said how do you all feel about first person only at release? I personally love it. I play first person for the immersion of it. And selfishly I don't want those advantage seekers using 3rd person to ambush me from complete concealment around a corner. At least not while being able to see me clear as day with their magically floating third eye.

LoL I want them to be nervous and twitchy as they wait, not knowing the exact moment I will step into view.

Exactly my thoughts.

Due to health issues that some people suffers, I think its imperative that player be given choices on how to pilot their mechs.

Personally, I prefer to be in first person tho. More immersive.

I am very happy that this is going to be 1st person only. I hope they keep it this way. I always thought 3rd person was a little too kidish. It also didn't work well in mixed games where some folkes played for the 1st person sim and other played for the 3rd person arcade. So, my hope is 1st person forever!

Hi !

I have another suggestion:

1st person only, but an option to take screenshots in 3rd person with movable camera with mouse around the mech. Also an option to turn off the HUD for screenshots.

I play a game to be immersed in it, not to play like I'm in an arcade. I'd use a console for that.

First person view for me.

I think that if a game can support 1PV and 3PV, you please more people. Those who prefer 3PV due to motion sickness issues, less sway or just preference can do so, however any dynamic world element should only be rendered if the object is viewable from the Mech's 1PV view. That way, it prevents 3PV players from being able to peak around corners or get an unfair advantage just for their preferred viewing mode.

I very much like this solution to attempt to balance 3rd person with first. That way you still rely on your radar more.

First person is the only logical option, if only for the immersion. This is supposed to be a mech combat SIMULATION, not an arcade game.

And this amazingly impressive floaty camera of yours stays perfectly stable and survives missiles explosions as well as you mech covered in tons of armor how? Even if you want to try and claim they make sense technologically that sort of falls short for me. Really comes off as a half thought out excuse for the fact that you just want third person.

I make no bones about admitting my desire for first person only are selfish. I mean if third person is there I can use it as readily as anyone else. I just prefer not to. And no one else having it only makes me happier.

Now some sort of pop drone like the one from the years old trailer they put out? That was cool. Made more sense and had reasonable limits. Hope that does make it in.

Actually, there are a few references of external view cameras being used in the novels. However, their uses were very limited. The sensors packed into a mech also allowed the pilot a full 360 degree view around their mech via computer screens.

If you read the novels, you'll find that the mechwarriors relied a LOT on sensors and their computer screens.

Still, that doesn't make a good game. lol

I'm all for the first person only view.

3rd person for me. I don't like my perspective to be limited. Just the way I like to do it. The game for me isn't really about simulation as much as it is competition. Yes, I love the fact that I am driving a 100 ton Mech, but most of my "immersion" comes from my abilities and the full use of such.

1st person only gets my vote as it's, imho, more immersive than an external view floating above my mech. I could understand a UAV giving topography and detected mech info to your radar though. A 3rd person view would give a pilot visual tactical information that wouldn't otherwise be available, such as seeing over buildings, hills and other obstacles. For an example : you want to peek at something, get out from behind that building...

Casting my thought: First person only.

Not for the sake of first person only, but rather due to the advantages that can be gained from third person. These advantages were minimal in MW3, and it wasn't as bad of a problem there. These advantages were massive in MW4, and it is a problem there.

Seeing over a hill without exposing your mech or a drone should never be okay. Seeing around a corner without exposing your mech or a drone should never be okay.

This isn't a "well don't use third person" gameplay visual preference, this boils down to a gameplay mechanic preference.

I for one am glad that it will be first person as long as they adjust for the stepping like in MW4 where your computer compensates for the step of the 'Mech. In MW3 I know there was a little wiggle which is understandable, but come on! It is the 31st century! There are bound to be computers that can compensate for stepping motion.

Also I like the idea that you can look around your cockpit again. That has not been seen since MW2.

Outstanding! You are piloting a 'Mech and your character is in the 'Mech. How could you see it from the outside?

Look at it this way. With FP-only you see other 'mechs from the outside, but now you see one from the inside too! Your own.

Let's hope the view is ultra-realistic in a simulation sense. :)

I'm surprised at the number of people who voice their favor for 1st person view. This was never an issue when played on the MANY ladder matches with MekTek. There were always servers for the "minority" of people who wanted the full simulation immersion thing. Many will tell you that 1st person was preferred to hinder poptarting because many were getting owned by this new method of fighting. Which started when Black Knight came out and I'm pretty sure I know they guy that started it. Sure, it's a simulation, not a first person shooter, to me, ffp is CHEAP, and CLUNKY. Give me a Thor with machine guns and 3rd person and I'll run circles around a fully spec'd Warlord in ffp. I think ffp is meant to limit the truly talented and really meant for the less skilled style of fighting.

First Person is the ONLY way to play a 'mech simulator.

End of discussion.

While I agree completely with the sentiment that first person is the right way to play a MechWarrior game, the option should at least be offered for third person.
