I agree with this 100%.
I support 1st person in combat. I think this will make using scout mechs and spotter mech more advantagious. Also, the mechs have radar and scanners so I don't think it will be a hinderence.

First Person
Pros: It's the classic view first off, gives you total immersion into the game and gives you the feel of actually piloting a massive hunk of war machine.
Cons: Difficult for beginners and to players in general since you need total spacial awareness of your mech and it's guns. In a typical first person, you can usually see your gun, and whether it's line of fire is being blocked or not, while on the other hand in a mech you have guns all over the place and especially in an urban warfare situation are not absolutely sure that each seperate gun's line of fire is clear.
Third person
Pros: You can admire your mech and the surroundings all you want while still being able to fight, plus you won't have the spacial awareness issue that can be apparent in first person.
Cons: You don't get full immersion into the game and probably make it a lot harder to play at a high level of intensity.
My verdict is that third person should be included as a nice feature and a slightly easier way to start for newbies, but the game should be focused a lot more on first person. If you don't like playing third person, then don't!!! Just let it stand for the people who would rather play third person!!!(not me btw)

In all thing war, stopping to admire yourself or getting lost in tunnel vision will get you killed.

I don't think that Hunchback cockpit is the perspective that will be used in game? There's a lot of wasted screen there.
Anyway, don't mech cockpits project images from blind spots inside the cockpit? Pretty sure that's commonly talked about in BT fiction...

No thanks. WAY too restrictive. Most players are already tunnel visioned. There's no need to reinforce and encourage it further. Matches will end up being like this:

Then I have no idea what you're doing here. The whole point of the Mechwarrior and Battletech series has been gritty realism, with the exception of MW4s regrettable inclusion of third person. It shouldn't even be an option, it provides too much of an tactical advantage. Forcing players into it to remain competitive.
Ever been or seen the of a inside a tank? Not much for providing thrilling vistas. I don't see why a 31st century fighting machine should be any different, if you want a magical eye in the sky, thats what electronic warfare is for. 3rd person simply goes against everything that Piranha Games is settig out to do.

Well lol, if thats how the cockpit is then thats just a blindspot weakness in that mech.....its nothing bad about the game....

Angelicon, you could launch a Camera module which would hover over the battlefield ( as per MW video)
but anything else really negates the effect of having a radar in the first place I'd say.

This is possibly the the worst thing posted on these forums, the only thing FFP eliminates is the ability to see around objects you should not be. Many players have been pop tarting and sniping in FFP for decades.
3rd person in Mech related games is like a legitimate way of cheating. You should only ever be able to see what the actual pilot in the cockpit can see.
3rd person in any game only ever makes it eaiser.

Ok now that I feel better. That damned OCD kicked in. hahaha.
Many people have already stated it. A 3rd person view give a massive influx of information that is not easily gained otherwise. However I hope they have an on/off button for the extra cockpit movement. Many people get motion sickness.
First Person is simply more involving.
EDIT: Oh hell this post is from October.... Well jokes on me.

Something like this:
Then in the PIP you can navigate it with the drone. THis of course I would assume would only be possible if you had the Drone mounted to the mech, it wasnt shot down and you had the module for it in your skill set..
I would also assume if you had a Satellite option for the commander the team could see a Sat view.. but the drone view would obviously be better as its closer and more maneuverable.
See Paul some of us do get what you guys were talking about yesterday
