The majority of people posting in this thread appear to prefer first person view...but that's not everyone. If more people will play and enjoy this game with 3rd person view added then it SHOULD be included.

So... if a vast majority of the people responding say they want a first-person cam only, and adding that 3rd-person camera promotes gimmicky gameplay that detracts from the enjoyment of the game for the vast majority of players, why should it be included?

That's like saying that if a vast majority of people would enjoy eating lunch at a traditional buffet, but a few others might enjoy eating bugs for the high-protein and low-fat, then adding a big bowl of ants and cockroaches to the middle of the buffet table would make the dining experience more pleasing to everyone.

There are countless ways to observe and spot mechs in this game over and around all obstacle and structures.

So far I've only seen Active RADAR, Passive RADAR, IR, and EM scanning as options. I'm expecting all will have some sort of counter/downside to their use. The only way, in theory, you should be able to detect everything is either to visually ID it, or scan it with a BAP.

(UAV, satellite scan, that magnetic imaging thing etc).

So far I haven't heard much about satellites or anything about UAVs. If satellites are in-game, I hope usage is limited. No point having lots of sensor options and counter-tactics if people can just watch the whole map from orbit in real-time...

With these kinds of tools fears of Ambushes and Jump Snipers are laughable. If that's not enough to let you sleep at night your being selfish.

Nice ad hominem. ;)

My laser cant bend around corners any more then yours can.... I think we can all agree battle mechs are fun to pilot and we love to play these games. We want it to be fun and competitive, so everyone has an equal chance to win. But some people love to also look at the mechs in all their glory. Smashing around in that custom paint job, that's why we spend all that time looking at and playing with colours and emblems....and MONEY if they have any hopes of selling players camo patterns or emblems. I am sure there are several ways 3rd person could be included that does not affect overall game play. Maybe an idea like the one above. But lets say for some strange reason nothing can be done to limit the added view around corners and objects, then so be it. We can all use it, and that's fair enough for me.

Ok - how about if you can deploy a UAV, you can look at your paint job - but no freecam mode for people to exploit!

Not sure if you saw it, but that post I did down the bottom of page 16? Yeah, it was meant specifically for people like you. Especially since you apparently can't read properly.

You mean this post:

Frankly, I still see this ongoing First/Third Person Perspective argument that's been plaguing Mechwarrior game communities for over a decade now as one of the pettiest, childish, most insignificant and pathetic arguments of gaming history. This is literally ten steps below "Who is cooler, Mario or Sonic".

Honestly, I have nothing further to say in this topic or to almost any of you posting here.

The post you made after I replied to you?

And calling me out for not being able to read properly is pretty funny, coming from someone who needs pictures to put his point across.

no option for 3rd person Period!!! 1st person or let Mechwarrior die! if you want to look at you're mech look at it in the mechlab or with drones. or have you're friends take a screenshot.

you do not let the players decide sence the "players" will allways pic the easyer way to win reguardles if its cheap or expolit of the mechcanic it's all about them. this is why you do not let them decide.keep it 1st person or leave mechwarrior dead ....

we do not need to water down this great chance for this game to come back to let to be taken over by some vein kids who use the excouse 'i want to look at mech my" so they can look around corners with 3rd person..

if you get motion sick why you playing games? why should we make it a option when so many will expolit the hell out of it? no thank you like i said at this start of this 1st Person Or let MechWarrior Die......combatsim or bust.

I feel like this is the sort of game that can get away with 1st person only, because I am hoping that the visual fidelity of the cockpit and the information warfare aspect will provide the player with enough information and immersion not to need 3rd person.

Unless, of course, we are to bring back the Mechwarrior 2 computer voice, I could listen to "External Camera... engaged" all day.

I love both but 1st person is the only perspective that should be allowed when piloting a mech unless you enable maybe a camera module or something just for looking around.

Maybe a rank system like BF3 where you prove yourself and then you can access an orbital cam once you have obtained the correct unlock.

Also if it is a sim 1st person is the way to go at the start. This is not going to be a run and gun mech game like war world, virtua on or armored core right?

Personally I am ALL for first person, I like the immersion and seeing all the cockpit controls and just everything. Third person I feel like im more of the mech then an actual person.

That being said I do feel for all the pilots who get motion sick, and maybe a button for "Steady Cam" could happen (Still have the jumping corsair and everything when getting hit) but just steadies the camera so you don't feel like you're brain is going to kill you or something? I dono its all up to the Devs anyway.

1st person only. It's a mech sim right? Your are not going to be controlling your mech from a third person view in real life would you?

That still wouldn't work. You simply go third person to "scout" over a hill or obstacle, then switch back to first to go into combat. There is a reason why there are FFP servers and no FTP servers

There can be no compromise here. Its either a first person or third person....the two can not exist together.

Oh yes there can be compromise. They will compromise on so many things that we never know about. How about this then.

Instead of the Camera view being from over the shoulder, it was instead out if Front of the Mech in question. (whatever person that is lol)

So all the kiddies who just have to see their Mech on the move can but have no means to use the View to cheat, snoop etc at all (unless your on his 6 o'clock) but we hope to have a rear view already)

If it's just for the purpose of seeing their mech then I have no problem with the POV being about 6' AGL and 10' back :)

Would still be able to see around corners.

I just hope that the game will support dual, or even better 3 monitor setups to help widen the FOV

I'd have to fall in with the 1st person only crowd. The Mechwarrior (computer) games have always been about being good simulators, that put you into the cockpit of your machine. That's something that you didn't get with the P&P or Miniatures gameplay. There were 3rd person attempts - MechCommander and MechAssault. MechCommander was a strategic game, not so much a simulator...different gameplay. MechAssault was stripped down to try to create a (poor) console game.

With the Information Warfare aspect of the game, being sat in a cockpit makes the most sense. You don't *want* people being able to look around outside the mech if you're playing a detection based game.

Oooooh, hey this tool wants a go. Watch out folks, we've got a badass over here. A badass who has to use petty retorts and 'points' that don't even make any sense. lololol 'have to use pictures to make points'. Let me guess, your first line of defense is to attack someone's spelling whenever possible, amirite?

Keep it up. You're funny.

There is a lot of irony here.

I have to agree that we should be in the cockpit. It was cool to see your mech in action in MW4 but in terms of multi player it poses quite a few problems.

I love the idea. I want it to where you are in 3rd person view at the countdown in the beginning of the match. Have it where you can pan around the mech to look at it. Then when you fight it goes to 3rd person view only.
