I am posting a video of my LRM build MadDog if you'd like to watch it in action.

[vid is loading I'll edit in link once that is done.]

I really like the MADDOG. It's a very versatile mech. The various SRM builds work with it very well as well.

Glad someone asked this question, as was considering this as a Gate Killer for CW.

Mhm... I am running my Doge Prime like this:
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...f4e214b7d420f26

The heat is not much of a problem when using separate groups for each of the LPLs, at least not for me. Your mileage may vary.

try this: MDD-PRIME
you will get farther, if you baby that arm.

i strongly suggest one sided MDD's, they will survive way longer if you force that CT on people.

I never go asymetric on a symetric Mech. ;)
I am also not a fan of losing both my primary weapons if someone gets a lucky shot at that arm. Interesting idea either way.

Will try this one sometime in the future, for the times when you really got to reach out and touch someone... http://mwo.smurfy-ne...1ab005fb93332f7
Maybe with Advanced Zoom to complement the long range aimed shots. Thoughts?

Hey guys! I've been cruising around the forums looking for a place to share my builds. I'm a huge fan of the Mad Dog so this seems like a good place to start.

In my opinion the Mad Dog is an excellent supporting 'mech, as has been stated already in this thread. It is fairly mobile and packs decent firepower with the right setup. The problem I run into most when using my Mad Dog is the lack of overall armor combined with an XL Engine. Even with maxed out center and side torso armor, the Mad Dog feels like it is made of glass. With the right weapon load out and the right play style, you can mitigate this weakness.

Sticking with the team and appraising the situation before diving into a fight can go a long way toward ensuring your survival. I generally escort Assault 'mechs on the battlefield, or provide follow-up support for light mechs who rush out to capture objectives. Another strategy that can pay off in the Mad Dog is to be a nasty surprise waiting around the corner for the enemy who over-extends in pursuit of an allied light mech returning to your team's position. So, before this turns into a wall of text praising my favorite 'mech, I'll show off my builds. I currently have 3 Mad Dogs.

My belief is that missiles take priority over lasers on this 'mech. However, three missile hardpoints on each side torso for a total of six allows you to equip more missiles than you need. I've found that using four of the six missile hardpoints is sufficient, any more than that and you are wasting tonnage on launchers when you could put that tonnage to better use with heavier lasers, additional missile ammo or heat sinks. Initially, I had three very different Mad Dogs. Over time my builds have grown together into variants on the same concept.

LRM Mad Dog: x
Streak SRM Mad Dog: x
SRM Mad Dog: x

The Mad Dog is definitely worth buying if you like using missiles.

Questions, comments, and constructive criticism are all welcome. Let me know what you think!

i've been very happy with mine.

Prime: 5xLRM10 + Narc + 2MLs
A: 3x SRM4+A, 3xSSRM4 + 2ML + 3SL
B: 6xSRM4+A + 2ERLL

Prime is definitely my favorite. LRMing with Narc is the way to go. I do the same on my golden boy. I have no problems making my own targets and sticking with the team.

depends if you like the mad dog a lot and if you are one of those people who can spend money on casual content.

(casual rich people = spend money on converts, buying vehicles for premium currency, buying what ever skin or colour they want because why the **** not. etc)

If you are one of htose people who buy only a few selected colours, usually wait on sales, like long term things like hero mechs and mech bays. Then no...

On a side note: it's coming out in 16 days I believe. If in the next few months the mad dog gets a hero then that's your time to spend MC on it. (would be cheaper then buying 3 mad dogs as well)

I have been a fan of the Mad Dog since back in the hex graph paper and pewter minis. I loved it in MW2 and up. I will say it is indeed a support mech worth every penny.

Here is what I run: MDD-PRIME

It is more of a close range mech, but I can switch out two of the Streak 6s for more LRM punching power.

How so?... MW2 has 2 main bugs across the 2 main versions....

1) all missiles hit the mad dogs self cockpit, meaning it can't fire missiles without having 40 damage hitting it's cockpit (if 2 x LRM 20)

2) impossible to over heat. remove all not needed heatsinks and load the **** up with Large pulse and medium pulse lasers...

you rather got a suicide machine or the equivalent of the MW: O thunderbolt as a clan mech.

If you're intending to use it for CW as a support mech it really shines amazingly there. Especially considering you can easily take all 3 variants. I find it very fun to play in PUGs, but not as potent as in CW.

I'd agree with your strategies, but to note some other things that I've found in the short time I've played the mad dog, is that you should ALWAYS think before you do. You should do this anyway, but even more so in the maddog. Another thing I've found is that even the enemy having the slightest terrain advantage over you can completely destroy you in this mech.

Haha, had a round against again you while I was in my mad dog!

On my way to master it, I must say that mwo manages to catch again the spirit of the mad dog: exellent long range support mech.
High cockpit very usefull to lock enemies without too much self.expose and lurm them to death.

I'll end with 2, one for lurm, and one for srm, but I don't like very much the brawler version; it's too fragile.

And let's say it clear lore-wise, as TRO says:

"The Mad Dog is a heavy Clan OmniMech used for long-range indirect fire support. With hunched shoulders, a protruding head, and reverse-jointed legs, the Mad Dog resembles a vulture, so much so that it was codenamed Vulture and Hagetaka ("Vulture" in Japanese) by the Inner Sphere forces which first encountered it. The name also fit the battlefield role of the Mad Dog; the main role of the Mad Dog is to act as a support 'Mech, and it often holds a hill maintaining constant watch over the entire battlefield, like a vulture waiting for its prey"

I wouldn't buy it for mc. But its definitely worth buying for cbills. Not the best hitboxes but it can carry a lot of firepower. Think of it like an oversized medium.

Yeah I can't count the number of times I've stuck my neck out a second too long and lost an arm or even a side torso. Caution and premeditation are definitely key. Minimizing the 'aggro' you draw from the enemy is sooo important.

I've been playing a lot lately so I can't remember the match but I recognize your name! Hopefully we meet again on the field soon. I'll say hey if I see ya :)

Also, I've got a new build for my Mad Dog Prime that's pretty nasty. Been averaging 700 damage games with it.Posted Image

It looks like the invasion mad dog, which has more area to paint. You can see the inner legs still 'grey'
