Massive macross fan here, but more for the mechanical designs than the actual characters and drama. I've got a dozen yamato valks and if you're new to the series and gets annoyed by typical anime tropes easily I would implore you to start with Macross Plus.

Robotech has to to be the all time top cartoon from my Youth,I didn't know it was a combination of three different anime series back then, hell I never even heard of anime back then but I loved it. It was so different from anything else,a on going story, characters that died, ti was great. I have both Robotech: The Macross saga and the Original Super Dimensional fortress Macross on DVD and plan to one day add the other series that were edit together to make Robotech to my collection as well.

I enjoy Macross for some time now but I hate to admit it my kid is worst then I am. Because of him I need to go out and get a whole new set of dvd's for Robotech and replace my vhs of my Super Dimensional Macross movie. I would love to see the original Macross series but Harmony Gold is still being an inappropriate word. I have watched all other Macross series including Macross 7 and Macross 7 Dynamite which had many a slow episode. I enjoy the Macross Frontier series but was not a fan of the two movies. It would of been better if they would of expanded the story instead of remaking it. Currently hiding from my kid the fact that I have Macross Plus and Macross 2: Lovers Again on the PS3. Hoping that he will kill some of his Gundam videos and torture his Minmae figure some more first.

The original voice actress for Minmei, Mari Iijima actually lives in Los Angelos now, and is a pretty successful singer, and I like how they made the character a little more mature in 'Do You Remember Love'. Got to meet her several times and she's still just as pretty now as she was back then. Reba West, the US actress for Minmay sounds exactly like that in person. Kinda eerie in a way.

Yeah ,but back then they weren't really trops yet;) .But still you right,Macross Plus might be a better starting point it's doesn't really require knowledge of the first series and is very awesome.

And just because

that's like saying if its not for AIR we would not be here, if not for planet earth we would not be here. the credit goes to the guys who sat down with some great imagination and put this together. you can pray to a cartoon if you want but i like what FASA and Battletech are.

Me. I actually saw Robotech in the early eighties. So you can imagine my joy to find the board game Battletech (which I still play).

I love Robotech. It is what got me into anime. And it is what got me into Battletech. It is one of the greatest anime ever.

So do a lot of us but we still acknowledge the fact that classic mecha anime helped influenced and inspire Battletech.

I love Macross. I haven't really seen anything other than the original series and the Macross Frontier, but yeah I love the series with all my heart. I watched Robotech as a kid and thought it was just the coolest thing ever. There was really nothing like it. This was a show where main characters died and the series ends with the near genocide of the entire human race. So much for a happy ending. Perfect material for an afternoon childrens cartoon!

It's definitely not for everyone, and honestly unless someone is already familiar with anime tropes and is already interested in anime I wouldn't even recommend it.
