You can have your Macross and your whiny Minmei. I'll take my childhood Star Blazers with a side of Battle of the Planets, thankyouverylittle.

Yes! I remember getting up at 6am on sat mornings to watch Starblazers and Captain Harlock back in the mid 70's, and Battle of the Planets was more main stream, so got to watch it after school.

I would have to say I am, the Japanese series mostly. One of those show that took the tentative steps of treating kids like adults. War is a horrible experience and people will die, I liked that facet of the show. You can keep all the idol singing, love triangle, and all that other guff. One of those few animes that I can stand, simply because transforming giant robot planes caught up in a apocalyptic battle for humanities survival is awesome.

Shows that depict war in as a fun-time adventure, always strikes me as a bit distasteful and something I wouldn't want my kids to take for reality.

Star Blazers... oh you must mean Space Battleship Yamato.

Wonder if you have seen the live action movie yet?

or the remake

Mmmmm... considering I was born out here in the country, I couldn't get any Macross or Robotech (Also probably pre-dated me just a tad)... but I could get Exo Squad (Think I was 8-10 yrs old)... Considering I was watching He-man or GI-Joe before that, all I could think was "This is awesome"... and then it went off air, and I didn't really discover anime again until High School.

That said, having made up time, Macross is awesome, feel in love with Macross Plus and then watched the original. I especially liked how they blew the animation budget on Frontier recently (Though I didn't care for the movies... better visuals and songs, but character development was way off).

Hence, my question is:

Where's our Minmay Singing Hula Girl?

I grew up with all kinds of Anime, the first being Star Blazers, but yes Robotech, Danguard Ace, GaiKing, Grandizer (Grendizer), Starvengers,
Battle of the Planets (meh), Spaceketeers, and of course the 2 different Voltron series!

Ahhh, one of the great things about being 10-13 years old. B)

Of course, I dread going back and watching these shows, it'd be probably like going back and watching Dukes of Hazzard, A-Team or Knight Rider.

Yeah, I've been really meaning to see these, Star Blazers was hands down my favorite of the 70's early 80's anime.

I loved it when I was 10 to 14, then Mechwarrior 2 came out and I had a Pentium 100 machine. Grew up a lot then and saw all the holes and the crummy acting. Made me want to learn Japanese..... *sigh* oh for the simpler times.

One thing though, it was not a totally Original idea. The Tripods from War of the World were the first weapon armed Mecha.

I've carried this "anime sucks!" attitude for a long time. But I recently tried watching some Transformers and Battletech. God, that sucked too!

I guess I just don't like cartoons, period?

That's okay, no shame in disliking cartoons, allot of them do suck. But many of them rule when you're a kid! :P
Though I'm still a big fan of Appleseed and Gun Smith Cats.
